RACE 1 - CADBURY ROSES MAIDEN PLATE – DIVISION 1 - 3-Y-O & UPWARDS - SET WEIGHTS – 1100 METRES - 11 RUNNERS

BYE ALL SEASONS (Trainer Kevin Denny) was granted permission to wear a one-eyed blinker on its near-side as it was established that a Stable Return had been submitted by the TRC prior to Acceptances on Thursday.

At the start LENNOX (R Hanby A) jumped awkwardly and brushed with SUNJOY (K Dodge).

RIENOD (T McAllister) jumped in at the start, contacting with SCREENPLAYER (J Borrett).

Near the 700 metres, SUNJOY (K Dodge) shifted in marginally resulting in QUICK AS A BLINK (D Pires A) shifting in and away and contacting with ALTRADOT (K Moore). Stewards advised Jockey Dodge to take more care when shifting ground in future.

At approximately the 500 metres, SUNJOY (K Dodge) began to hang off the track and made the turn awkwardly.

Approaching the 250 metres, LENNOX (R Hanby A), when shifting to obtain a clear run, carried SUNJOY (K Dodge) on to DASHING LADY (B Mason).

At approximately the 150 metre mark, QUICK AS A BLINK (D Pires A) shifted ground outwards to obtain a clear run and in doing so bumped with BYE ALL SEASONS (J Nevin A).

In the home straight RIENOD (T McAllister) laid in for the major part thereof.

RIENOD (T McAllister) raced green throughout the event.

Following the running of this race, Stewards upgraded the track rating from SLOW to DEAD at 12.20 pm. A public announcement was made to this effect.

RACE 2 - CADBURY FAVOURITES MAIDEN PLATE – DIVISION 2 - 3-Y-O & UPWARDS - SET WEIGHTS – 1100 METRES - 9 RUNNERS

Stewards received a veterinary certificate for ALVA (Trainer P E Jones) prior to the event, clearing the gelding to race.

ALVA (T McAllister) proved difficult to load and delayed the start approximately one minute. ALVA appeared to jump out at the start and raced green in the early stages of the event.

SUSAN’S PRIDE (D Pires) was slow to muster early speed.

Approaching the 650 metre mark, MOCULTA (P Michaelides) appeared to throw its head in the air and over-raced for some distance.

Over the concluding stages, ENCOSTA NOVA (K Moore) shifted ground under pressure resulting in ROCK ‘N’ SEA (C Kingston) being inconvenienced. As a result Jockey Kingston had to ease ROCK ‘N’ SEA out over the heels of ENCOSTA NOVA. Stewards issued a reprimand to Jockey K Moore under AR-137(a) and advised him to take far greater care in future when shifting ground.

Following the event, ROCK ‘N’ SEA was lead back to the mounting yard through the side gate when it appeared to be lame in the off foreleg. A subsequent veterinary inspection of ROCK ‘N’ SEA revealed the filly to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr Gary White was advised that he must tender a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to the filly’s next race start.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race ENCOSTA NOVA (Trainer Paul E Jones).

RACE 3 - SUPERVOBIS 3-Y-O MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS - 1200 METRES - 11 RUNNERS

ZEQUEST (T McAllister) raced awkwardly in the early stages of the event and shifted ground inwards.

LADY QUEST (B McCoull) laid in in the home straight.

At approximately the 200 metre mark, DENON (S Quilty) was crowded for racing room when JUSTATRICE (W Hokai) shifted out to obtain a clear run. In doing so JUSTATRICE over-reacted and moved out abruptly.

HE’S QUICK (D Pires A) laid in over the concluding stages resulting in Apprentice Pires having to steady his mount.

RACE 4 - BRALLOS MAIDEN PLATE – 3-Y-O & UPWARDS - SET WEIGHTS – 1600 METRES - 11 RUNNERS

Prior to the announcement of correct weight, GREY GOD (Trainer John Luttrell) was disqualified under the provisions of AR-143 when it was established that the gelding had carried less weight than it should have. Jockey B Mason reported to Stewards that after being a little slow out of the barriers, the saddle suddenly moved forward and broke about 50 metres after the start. He stated that thereafter he had difficulty controlling his mount. After inquiring into the report made by Jockey B Mason, it was established that at approximately the 1000 metres, the lead bag (1.7 kg) fell out. Stewards also inspected the condition of the saddle which appeared to be of a good standard and in good condition.

The Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected the bandages on CALL ME DIGGER (Trainer Douglas Brazendale) at the barriers then cleared the gelding to race.

At about the 600 metres REGENT PRINCE (J Nevin A) shifted in and tightened SKINNY DIPPING (C Burt) to its inside which was then checked. After taking evidence from both riders, it was established that several factors contributed to the incident. Notwithstanding this fact, Apprentice J Nevin was reprimanded under AR-137(a) and reminded of his obligations when shifting ground in the future.

At approximately the 200 metre mark, GREY GOD (B Mason) and SKINNY DIPPING (C Burt) bumped on several occasions when SKINNY DIPPING was shifting to obtain a clear run.

The on-course ambulance officers examined Apprentice J Nevin following the running of this event and declared him unfit to fulfill his remaining riding engagements.

At approximately the 150 metre mark, NEAT LINES (R Bradley A) shifted ground outwards slightly, inconveniencing RIBERA (J Borrett).

RACE 6 - MALUA CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES - 9 RUNNERS

At the 700 metre mark, LUMINOUS PRINCE (P Michaelides) and HANROYD (R Hanby A) bumped on several occasions.

RACE 7 - CHEAPER FURNITURE HANDICAP - 1600 METRES - 10 RUNNERS

MUCHO DINERO (S Quilty) was slow into stride.

Following the running of this event, Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of WOBBLEY. After taking evidence from Apprentice D Pires, in the presence of his Master for the day, Mr A Stubbs, the trainer of WOBBLEY, Mr John Luttrell and acting on their own observations, Stewards advised Apprentice Pires that although on this occasion his handling of the horse fell short of a possible breach of AR-135(b) he should ensure that he rides his mounts so as to leave no room for query. Stewards expressed their concern regarding the manner in which he rode the horse near the 600 metre mark and again over the concluding stages. It was Stewards’ view that at the 600 metre mark Apprentice Pires could have shown more initiative to establish his position to the outside of BUNDALAGUAH (R Hanby A). It was further established that WOBBLEY (D Pires A) was held up for a clear run for the majority of the home straight to the inside of TUZLA (D Sparks) and behind THE SPUNK (W Hokai) and after leaving the 100 metre mark appeared to want to lay out and shifted out to immediately behind TUZLA (D Sparks).

Trainer John Luttrell was issued with a reprimand under LR-35(c) for not having NUNKERRI KOREKA on course within the prescribed time. Mr Luttrell explained to Stewards that his shortage of stable staff contributed to the problem. Stewards advised Mr Luttrell that this was not a good enough reason and they would expect that his horses would be on course an hour before their race in future.

A post-race veterinary inspection of WOBBLEY failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 8 - ELLA FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP FILLIES & MARES – 1400 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

At about the 1100 metre mark, SEONA (D Pires A) began to over-race and brushed with the running rail on a number of occasions.

LILAC QUEEN (K Dodge) became crowded between COUP DE PIED (W Hokai) and DEI GRATIA (R Bradley A) approaching the 600 metres.

WEST WITH PRIDE (P Michaelides) laid in for a majority of the home straight and had to switch out over the heels of SOME CHEER (R Hanby A) approximately 100 metres from the line.

RACE 9 - WREST POINT HOTEL CASINO CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1600 METRES – 11 RUNNERS

MAN IN BLACK (C Burt) was slow into stride.

NORMAN FLYER (J Borrett) pulled hard in the early stages of the event.

At approximately the 1100 metre mark, MY LOVER (C Kingston) bumped with PERFECT SKY (K Dodge) and then shifted ground outwards contacting with BINDANA SPIRIT (R Hanby A).

At about the 100 metre mark PAPPA BEAR (S Quilty) had to switch over the heels of DISGUISE THE EYES (D Pires A) to obtain clear running and in doing so shifted out and crowded MAN IN BLACK (C Burt) on to JUST LU (L Currie).
