RACE 1 - BEATING THE ODDS MAIDEN PLATE – 3-Y-O & UPWARDS - SET WEIGHTS - 1600 METRES - 10 RUNNERS

A course announcement was made prior to the start of this race, advising that due to the colours not being on course for LEX LOCI, the filly would race in Trainer Royston Carr’s colours of blue and white quarters.

DURRENMATT (E Brennen A) was slow into stride.

HEEDFUL (J Borrett) jumped awkwardly at the start and brushed with WIITIKO (W Davis).

SUNJOY (B McCoull) was checked at the start when DELBRIDGE (D Pires) jumped out.

BLUE LANI (S Maskiell) over-raced in the early stages of the event.

LE TOUCH (M Allen A) over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event and was difficult to restrain and also raced wide in the back straight when the saddle on this gelding slipped sideways. Apprentice Allen reported at scale that as a consequence she was placed at a disadvantage throughout the entire event.

Rounding the home turn, shortly prior to straightening, SUNJOY (B McCoull) had to be checked by its rider when attempting to take a run between DURRENMATT (E Brennen A) and LEX LOCI (R Bradley) when LEX LOCI rolled out slightly and DURRENMATT which was laying in, rolled in marginally. Thereafter, at about the 200 metre mark, SUNJOY (B McCoull) had to switch to the inside of HIGHSTRUNG (L Goodrick) to obtain clear running.

WIITIKO (W Davis) shifted ground inwards under pressure over the concluding stages.

A post-race veterinary inspection of LE TOUCH (Trainer John Luttrell) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race HIGHSTRUNG (Trainer Barry Campbell).

Stewards upgraded the track rating from SLOW to DEAD following the running of this race (12.41 pm).

RACE 2 - RAINE & HORNE HOBART MAIDEN PLATE - DIVISION 1 - 3-Y-O & UPWARDS - SET WEIGHTS - 1000 METRES - 11 RUNNERS

A course announcement was made prior to the start of this race, advising that LYN’S BOY (Trainer Charlie Goggin) would race in the colours of yellow with black stars.

STIHLMACK DAWN (D Pires) jumped awkwardly at the start and contacted with PRIMA CAVALLO (S Snell).

ALIGNMENT (J Borrett) over raced in the middle stages.

Approaching the 800 metre mark, PRINCESS AVENGER (E Brennen A) shifted in and contacted with CAITLIN’S BEST (S Gates) to its inside. These two horses brushed for a number of strides and thereafter PRINCESS AVENGER was taken out over the heels of OUTLAW LASSIE (T Atkin) which shifted ground inwards at the time. Apprentice Brennen, the rider of PRINCESS AVENGER, was shown video footage of the incident and advised to take more care when shifting ground. Apprentice Brennen advised Stewards that he had limited control whilst riding this mare as she appeared to be dead in the mouth. Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of PRINCESS AVENGER which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. In view of this mare’s performance, Stewards will advise Trainer Richardson that her future performances will be closely monitored.

ALIGNMENT (J Borrett) raced green throughout this event and ducked in sharply at about the 200 metre mark when struck with the whip behind the saddle, shifted outwards and immediately shifted ground inwards again and contacted with the inside running rail. When questioned about this horse’s performance, Jockey Borrett stated that it raced green throughout and appeared to resent the whip in the straight. As a result, she rode this horse hands and heels to the line following this incident.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Apprentice M Allen, (the rider of RADAR ROCKET) wished to view the video with a view to lodging a protest. After viewing the video, Apprentice Allen decided against lodging a protest and correct weight was announced. It was established that OUTLAW LASSIE (T Atkin) who was laying out, shifted outwards approaching the 200 metre mark and brushed with RADAR ROCKET (M Allen A). As a result PRINCESS AVENGER (E Brennen A) who was shifting ground inwards at the time, was inconvenienced and had to be restrained by its rider. Thereafter PRINCESS AVENGER continued to lay in throughout.

A post-race veterinary inspection of BEAMISH RED (Trainer Royston Carr) revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg with a rupture of the superficial flexon tendon. Trainer Royston Carr was advised that he must tender a veterinary certificate of soundness before BEAMISH RED’s next race start.

Approaching the 800 metre mark, RAMASQUE (M Allen A) shied away from TOM’S TOP (C Kingston) to its outside and shifted ground inwards. Shortly thereafter RAMASQUE again shied away from TOM’S TOP who shifted in slightly, then shifted in and made contact with ANCHOR POINT (W Davis). These two horses contacted for a short distance.
