Emergency gained a start

RACE 1 – MOLLY MALONE MAIDEN PLATE, 1800 METRES – 10 RUNNERS

As the start was effected PINTERRY NOBLE (Mark Goring) was crowded for room when TOLDO (NZ) (Leah Goodrick) jumped inwards and at the same time SONAR DREAM (Kevin Dodge) jumped outwards.

SKI STAR (Will Stacey (a)) began a little awkwardly.

The track was downgraded to Slow at 1.00 p.m.

RACE 2 - ALEXANDER HOTEL SUPERVOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 9 RUNNERS

As the start was effected BRAGANZA (Stan Tsaikos) jumped inwards, contacting FATHER PATRICK (David Pires (a)) and as a result FATHER PATRICK was inconvenienced. At the same time LIBBIANNE (Leah Goodrick) was tightened between STORM RAJ (Ken Lewis) and BELLADONI (Ruth Bradley (a)).

Over the concluding stages DELFINO (Simon Snell) was inclined to lay in and as a result Mr Snell was unable to ride his mount out in his normal manner.

In the run to the finish SANNARELLE (Will Stacey (a)) shifted ground inwards under pressure and as a result carried BELFRY BOUNTY (Mark Goring) slightly inwards. Apprentice Stacey was advised he must take greater care when allowing his mounts to shift ground.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race, FATHER PATRICK (Trainer Mr Terry Roles).

RACE 3 - SHEARWATER COUNTRY CLUB MAIDEN PLATE 1175 METRES - 13 RUNNERS

MY DRAW (Ken Lewis) and PRINCE SALEM (Stephen Maskiell) were both slow to begin.

HIGH WIND (Ken Moore) suffered a bleeding attack, for the second time, at approximately the 600 metre mark and was retired from the event. Acting under the provision of A.R.53A (5), trainer Miss Judith Galic was advised by stewards that this gelding is no longer permitted to race in Australia.

Over the concluding stages PRINCE SALEM (Stephen Maskiell) was inclined to lay in under pressure despite the efforts of its rider.

Over the concluding stages MOZZY (Kevin Dodge) and STILL SMOKIN (Ruth Bradley (a)) contacted on a number of occasions, which resulted in MOZZY being momentarily steadied.

TACTICAL ERROR (Kevin Ring) tired noticeably over the concluding stages. Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of the gelding which revealed no abnormalities.

After the running of this race a number of riders expressed concern with regard to the safety of the track. Shortly thereafter stewards conducted a track inspection with jockey representatives and also a Club representative. Upon conclusion of the inspection it was decided to reschedule the remaining races back one race. However, upon a further later inspection stewards deemed the track to be unsafe. Acting under A.R.8 (q) stewards, in consultation with the Club, postponed the remainder of the meeting as they deemed the course to be unsafe due to earlier inclement weather.

GENERAL

KONISHIKI (Simon Snell) was a late scratching at 1.10 p.m. when an application was made by the trainer and owner representatives, Mr T Blacker and Mr M Heffernan respectively, for this gelding to be withdrawn due to deteriorating track conditions. Stewards acceded to their request, however informed both parties that this gelding would not be allowed, in future, to race on heavy tracks and when engaged, and tracks were rated slow, the stewards would consider each situation on its merits.

Jockey Mr Ken Moore pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R.120 (b) for accepting the rides on POWER OF PETITE (Race 1) and ALTRADOT (Race 4), for which he could not draw the allotted weight. Mr Moore was fined $100.
