RACE 1 – SCOTT/DALE TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 METRES – 7 RUNNERS

The start was delayed slightly when a number of horses proved a little intractable when loading in the barriers.

Rounding the home turn CROSS OF LORRAINE (S Brazil) became unbalanced when this gelding appeared to lose its footing. Shortly thereafter CROSS OF LORRAINE appeared to clip the heels of SUPER CONNIE (T Atkin) when this horse shifted out marginally. When questioned Jockey Brazil the rider of CROSS OF LORRAINE stated that this horse, in her opinion, lost it’s footing rounding the home turn and thereafter again lost its footing. In her opinion she did not clip the heels of SUPER CONNIE.

RACE 3 –J J KEYS MEMORIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1000 METRES – 6 RUNNERS

LUCIBEAR was a late scratching at 1.37 pm when this filly proved intractable and refused to load into the barrier gates. As a result the start was delayed. Prior to correct weight Stewards ordered a refund on all bets struck on this filly prior to 1.37 pm and as she was quoted at 6/1 Stewards further ordered that there be a deduction of 15 cents in all win bets and place bets struck on other runners prior to 1.37 pm.

Jockey P Sarlo the rider of KINGSTON MACAYLA reported at scale that he wished to lodge a protest against PARRAWEE ridden by apprentice Laura Bulger on the grounds of alleged interference over the concluding stages of the event. After considering the protest and acting on their own observations and the video evidence available Stewards dismissed the protest and announced correct weight on the result as given by the judge – 1st – 4, 2nd – 3, 3rd – 7, 4th – 6.

It was established that approaching the winning post over the concluding stages PARRAWEE had shifted in marginally at the same time GREY CHICK (P Fung (a)) had commenced to shift out marginally and as a result KINGSTON MACAYLA was momentarily inconvenienced.

At approximately the 100 metre mark GREY CHICK (P Fung (a)) brushed with TARRENLEA (P McLean) resulting in both horses becoming momentarily unbalanced.

In view of LUCIBEAR’S behaviour Stewards advised Trainer La’Shay Joslin that this filly is to trial satisfactorily at an official barrier trial with at least two other runners and load into the barrier gates in a satisfactory and tractable manner before it will be allowed to start in a race.

Stewards placed a warning on the barrier manners of GREY CHICK who proved difficult to load and also contributed to the race being delayed a number of minutes.

RACE 5 – BAUDIN’S RESTAURANT CLASS D HANDICAP – 1200 METRES – 8 RUNNERS

FAMILY FORT raced in the colours Blue, Pink Stars. The race book incorrectly indicated the colours as Red, White & Purple Hoops, White Sleeves, Purple Spots, White Cap.

SUNSTAR was ridden by Jockey T Atkin, and was slow away losing 3 – 4 lengths.

As the start was effected MAGIOCHA (C Dean) jumped awkwardly and inwards and in doing so inconvenienced FAMILY FORT (P McLean) and QUIDDITY (P Sarlo) to its inside. Stewards spoke with Jockey Dean regarding this horse’s behaviour at the start. He stated that after jumping awkwardly and veering inwards he made an attempt to straighten this horse but in doing so the horse continued to shift ground inwards despite his efforts. On this occasion Stewards afforded Jockey Dean the benefit of the doubt and attributed the movement to the manners of the horse.

Stewards spoke with Jockey Paul Sarlo the rider of QUIDDITY regarding his riding over the concluding stages of the event. He was advised that notwithstanding the fact that he may not have obtained a better position in the race he is obligated under the rules to ride his mounts, at least hands and heels, to the line unless there is something amiss with his mount.

RACE 6 – PARER’S HOTEL CLASS D HANDICAP – 1600 METRES – 8 RUNNERS

RUSSIAN STYLE (A Jones (a)) jumped awkwardly at the start.

ISLAND QUEST (C Dean) had a tendency to over race in the early stages of the event.

At approximately the 500 metre mark BEARDSWORTH (P Sarlo) shifted inwards slightly and inconvenienced RUSSIAN STYLE momentarily. Jockey Paul Sarlo (BEARDSWORTH) was shown the video of the incident and advised to take far greater care in future when shifting ground.

Apprentice Ashley Jones reported that RUSSIAN STYLE jarred up in running. Stewards requested a veterinary examination which revealed a small laceration to the near hind coronet with no other abnormalities detected.

RACE 7 – PLUTONICS CLASS A HANDICAP – 1200 METRES – 4 RUNNERS

SPINIFEX FAIRY’S (D Sparks) saddle slipped shortly after the start and as a result Jockey Sparks was inconvenienced and made the turn at the 800 awkwardly. Thereafter shortly after the winning post Jockey Sparks stated that he was unable to maintain his balance properly and as a result dismounted from this filly who was led back by the Clerk of the Course. Mr Sparks returned to scale was reunited with his horse and weighed in at the correct weight.

RACE 8 – RUSSELL’S BUTCHERS MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1400 METRES – 4 RUNNERS

Shortly after the start ARCTIC EVENING (S Brazil) became momentarily crowded to the inside of ROBARCH (P Sarlo). Stewards advised Jockey Sarlo to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of runners before commencing to shift ground and to take far greater care in future before shifting ground.

GENERAL

Stewards inspected the skull caps and body protectors of all riders engaged. After doing so Stewards found the skull caps of Jockey Paul Sarlo and Apprentice Ashley Jones to be out of date and ordered that both skull caps not be used any further. Both riders acquired skull caps which conformed with the rules of racing, were inspected by Stewards and allowed to ride in those skull caps. Apprentice Jones’ skull cap was confiscated and the skull cap of Jockey Sarlo was returned to him subject to certain terms and conditions.
