RACE 1 - TOTE TASMANIA MAIDEN PLATE – DIVISION 1

3-Y-O & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS

1100 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

The Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected MALLOW prior to the start of this race when the filly was found to have a laceration on her right hip, and passed it fit to take its place with the field.

The race book failed to show Jockey C Burt as the rider of AL BAGDAD.

Trainer Tania Kennedy pleaded guilty to a charge under LR-34 (c) in that she failed to declare a rider by the prescribed time. In all the circumstances, Stewards issued a fine of $50.

Trainer Tania Kennedy was reprimanded under AR-140A for negligence in the saddling of AL BAGDAD when it was discovered at the barriers that the girth was done up to the stirrup leather.

The start of this race was delayed slightly when AL BAGDAD (C Burt) proved difficult to load. As a result, Stewards advised Trainer Tania Kennedy that a warning had been placed on this horse regarding its loading manners.

As the start was affected, NOT RESPONSIBLE (C Kingston) and STORM RAJ (D Pires A) made contact.

Shortly after the start, MALLOW (S Maskiell) jumped in resulting in PERSONAL PEAK (J Borrett) having to be steadied.

AL BAGDAD (C Burt) was a little slow into stride.

MALLOW (S Maskiell) was inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the turn at the 600 metres, LADY ETOILE (K Cook) rolled in marginally and made contact with STORM RAJ (D Pires A) resulting in that filly becoming momentarily unbalanced for a number of strides.

QUICK AS A BLINK (D Keating A) raced greenly throughout.

AL BAGDAD (C Burt) commenced to compound at about the 500 metres and trailed the field home. Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Just prior to straightening, QUICK AS A BLINK (D Keating A) rolled in and brushed with STORM RAJ (D Pires A).

QUICK AS A BLINK (D Keating A) had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 2 - PROFESSIONAL PLUMBING MAIDEN PLATE – DIVISION 2

3-Y-O & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS

1100 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

The announcement of correct weight was delayed as Apprentice D Keating, the rider of the fifth placegetter (MISTELLA) advised that he wished to lodge a protest against BLUE BIALIA (D Parish) being declared the fourth placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference over the concluding stages. After considering evidence from all the parties concerned and viewing the official Stewards’ patrol films and acting on their own observations, the protest was dismissed. Stewards ordered the Judge’s placings to stand and correct weight was declared. It was established that approaching the 250 metre mark, BLUE BIALIA (D Parish) rolled in under pressure, momentarily crowding MISTELLA (D Keating A). It was noted that Jockey Parish stopped riding and straightened immediately and in the opinion of Stewards, Apprentice D Keating was able to ride his mount out in his normal manner to the finishing line. Stewards reminded Apprentice Keating in the strongest terms that when considering lodging an objection in future, he has the option of viewing the Stewards’ patrol films before proceeding with an objection as in their opinion today’s objection bordered on being frivolous.

DENON (L Goodrick) and GO LIKE ELLE (S Tsaikos) were slow to begin.

TACTICAL ERROR (W Stacey A) over-raced in the early and middle stages.

At about the 600 metre mark BLUE BIALIA (D Parish) laid in on to TACTICAL ERROR (W Stacey A). As a result MINNIE MOUSQUITO (J Borrett) which was racing to the inside, was crowded and had to be eased.

After taking evidence from Apprentice Stacey, his acting Master, Mr G S White, taking into account their own observation and viewing the official patrol film, Stewards issued a reprimand under AR-137 A (2) Part (b) and (c).

Stewards questioned Trainer Neil Richardson after the running of this event regarding the apparent improved performance of CREIGHTON (NZ). Trainer Richardson stated that since the gelding’s disappointing run on 24 November, he had changed the training program and taken the gelding to work on the beach rather than gallop him on the track and in his opinion this had a bearing on the gelding’s improved performance in today’s event.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race CREIGHTON (NZ) (Trainer Neil Richardson).

At the same time TARNI ROSE (M Goring) laid in and away from BAY RITZ (B McCoull) and also tightened HIGHSTRUNG in on to SQUIRE MOOR.
