RACE 1 –– RAINE AND HORNE HOBART MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE – 2100 METRES

BAILIFFS MOON (S Hamer(a)) was fractious in the mounting yard, reared and fell over. The mare was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to compete.

BENTLEY (D Robinson(a)) had to be re-saddled prior to the start.

FATHER PATRICK(D Pires) was slow into stride.

Racing to the 1900 metre turn LA FLOREY (D Parish) rolled in and bumped with BIG TRAIN (S Gates)

FATHER PATRICK (D Pires) hung out rounding the home turn.

In the home straight IGOLIDE (L Goodrick) laid in resulting in the rider not being able to ride her mount out in her usual manner.

On returning to scale T Atkin the rider of the second placed DURRENMATT requested to view the film of the home straight.  Upon doing so he lodged a protest against the winner THE PASTORALIST (C Kingston) alleging interference near the 300 metres.

After hearing submissions from the both parties, viewing the patrol films and taking into account their own observations Stewards established that, entering the home straight near the 300 metre mark THE PASTORALIST shifted out as DURRENMATT shifted in resulting in C Kingston’s whip making accidental contact with DURRENMATT’S nose on one occasion.  Stewards were of the opinion that the material extent of the interference did not exceed the margin between the two horses at the end of the race, therefore the objection was dismissed.

***The track rating was downgraded to dead a 2.00pm***

RACE 2 – RAINE AND HORNE MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 METRES

PRINCE FLYER (R Bradley) was fractious in the barrier and was slow to begin.

RED RIVAL (D Robinson (a)) jumped outward taking MINI CLAUSE (K Bandy) wider on the track.

WESTERN CHEER (S Maskiell) shifted outward after the start and as a result made contact with MELAMEE (D Pires) resulting in BLACKBERRY PIE (L Goodrick) who was following being inconvenienced.

BLACKBERRY PIE (L Goodrick) over raced in the early stages.

WESTERN CHEER (S Maskiell) over raced in the early and middle stages.

MELAMEE (D Pires) brushed with BLACKBERRY PIE (L Goodrick) at the 500 metre mark.

A post race Veterinary examination of PEGGY WHO revealed the mare had bitten her tongue in running, the injury was only superficial.

R T Carr trainer of EDGED IN RED when questioned on the improved performance at today’s meeting stated that since returning from a spell the mare had matured and was more settled.  Stewards noted his explanation.

The winner EDGED IN RED was sent to be swabbed.

RACE 3 –RAINE AND HORNE KINGSTON SUPERVOBIS 3YO MAIDEN 1200 METRES

The start was delayed 4 minutes when THE WEB (S Maskiell) dislodged its rider; broke through the outside running rail before being re-captured.  A veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be fit to run.

Jockeys K Dodge and S Maskiell were both examined by the clubs medical officers behind the barriers and passed fit to ride.

Approaching the 450 metre mark MINN (K Bandy) was held up behind the tiring BRAVESTONE (K Dodge) and as a result shifted ground outward to avoid that fillies heels, and hampered MADAM MASQUE (D Pires) who brushed with STRATHMORE MAID (S Gates).  Shortly thereafter MINN (K Bandy) shifted in to relieve pressure and was again placed awkwardly on the heels of BRAVESTONE (K Dodge).  At this point BRAVESTONE (K Dodge) began to compound and finished at the tail of the field.

Racing near the 300 metre mark MYSTIC MILLIE (R Bradley) raced extremely greenly, shifted in and brushed the running rail on several occasions.

THE WEB (S Maskiell) was eased down by its rider entering the home straight.  A post race Veterinary examination of THE WEB revealed no abnormalities.  Jockey Maskiell stated that shortly after the start he felt there was something amiss with the gelding, in particular that there was restriction in the near side galloping action.  He further added that he elected to take THE WEB wide rounding the home turn, ease down and pull up in the home straight. Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed and directed Dr M Buckerfield to perform another examination of the gelding during the coming week at the stables of Trainer C Crook.

A post race Veterinary examination of BRAVESTONE revealed no abnormalities.  Stewards will monitor BRAVESTONE’S future performances.

The winner STRATHMORE MAID was swabbed.

***The track was downgraded to slow at 3pm***

RACE 4 –– RAINE AND HORNE SPRING CUP -1600 METRES

PRIVATE ENSIGN(C Kingston) and RAHIRI (T Atkin) were a little slow into stride.

PAPPA BEAR (S Hamer(a)) elected to race wide in the back straight in search of better track conditions.

A post race Veterinary examination of LUNCHTIME LEGEND (B McCoull) revealed that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg and would require a veterinary certificate of soundness before it next trials or races.

DJUAN was a late scratching at 3.10 pm when the stewards acceded to a request by Trainer G S White to scratch due to track conditions deteriorating from Good to Slow.  In agreeing to the late scratching Mr White was advised that DJUAN would not be permitted to race on tracks that were rated slow or worse in future.

GLORIOUS DEVON (K Dodge) blundered on jumping and lost some ground.

GOLD MINT (D Robinson (a)) was held up for a run at the 250 metre mark before switching to the inside to obtain a tight run.  At this stage he bumped with LITTLELIONHART (S Brazil). GOLD MINT was hampered thereafter when LITTLE STUART (K Bandy) laid in and LORDS PLACE (S Maskiell) shifted out marginally.  K Bandy was shown the film and advised that he must ensure that he straightens his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
