Stewards questioned Jockey Lisa Balding regarding her riding instructions for BADGER’S RETREAT. She stated she had no specific instructions and when questioned about the gelding’s performance she stated that it jumped slowly and failed to muster early speed. She then encouraged the horse with the whip and approaching the 800m mark the gelding had picked up the bit with her and she was unable to sit in behind the field and her only option was to race around the field and take up a forward position. She then stated that once she found herself leading the field she had no alternative but to maintain her position. Stewards noted Jockey Balding’s explanation.

POWER OF PETITE (K Moore) shifted out slightly approaching the home turn. As a result BIEGA (R Hanby (a)) became crowded between this mare and TIME TO LEAD (B McCoull) racing on its immediate outside. Jockey Moore was shown the video of the race and advised by Stewards to take more care when shifting ground in future.

TORRIANN (S Snell) was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn for some distance and shortly after straightening elected for a very right run between PETER GUN (C Burt) and AMBER FLASHING (J Borrett), and in doing so brushed with PETER GUN. Shortly after electing to do so PETER GUN commenced to lay in, shifted ground inwards, and carried TORRIANN in behind AMBER FLASHING who contacted with this mare. Thereafter TORRIANN switched to the outside of AMBER FLASHING to obtain a clear run. Thereafter shortly after leaving the 150m mark TORRIANN continued on an outward path and at the same time DENALI DANCER (R Hanby (a)) appeared to shy away from MOCCA (S Maskiell) to its outside when this mare shifted in marginally.
