"Darvolant" hung out in the straight, and proved difficult to ride out.

The Stewards inquired into Wayne Treloar's use of the sauna after a report from Mr. John Burton, Sauna Supervisor. W. Treloar was found guilty of an improper action in connection with racing in that he used the sauna at Caulfield today knowing that he did not have the required industry accreditation to use it, and subsequently rode "Tarathea" in the seventh race after having used the sauna.

W. Treloar was further found guilty of having made a false statement to Mr. John Burton, the Sauna Supervisor, that he was, in fact, Peter Mertens, who was accredited to use the sauna.

W. Treloar was further found guilty of a charge that after having told the Sauna Supervisor that his name was Peter Mertens he then signed Peter Mertens' name on the Sauna Use Record document.

W. Treloar was suspended for one month on each charge. The Stewards ruled that each suspension was to be served concurrently. In arriving at the penalty the Stewards took into consideration W. Treloar's good record in racing. The terms of suspension to commence at midnight 7th August 2002.

Race 8 - CASH CONVERTERS HANDICAP - 1800 metres:

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. Myles Plumb, trainer of "Enzeli (Ire)", who stated that the gelding had an elevated temperature and was unfit to run, the Stewards withdrew "Enzeli (Ire)" from the event at 8.30 a.m. Mr. Plumb has submitted a veterinary certificate for the gelding.

"Natch" knuckled on jumping away.

"It's Platonic (NZ)" had a tendency to lay in rounding the home turn and in the straight.

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into Roger Booth's use of the whip on "Jasper's Gold" to a date to be fixed.

Mr. Cliff Brown, trainer of "As you Do", when asked if he could offer any explanation for the gelding's improved performance, stated that the only reason he could put forward was the addition of blinkers today. Mr. Brown added that the horse's work prior to today's race had been good, and similar to the work prior to its last few starts. Mr. Brown further stated that he did not support "As you Do" today because of its recent disappointing runs.

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of all races today.

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into whether Mr. D. McLauchlan, licensed bookmaker, had in his possession a mobile telephone, other than the Racing Victoria telephone. After taking evidence from Mr. McLauchlan and from Mr. P. E. McMillan, Racecourse Detective, the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
