Race 1 - BRISEIS FUNCTION CENTRE SV 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1125 metres:

Simon Zahra, representing Matthew Ellerton, trainer of "Doubtful Sound" which had been released to wear blinkers for the first time, approached the Stewards requesting that the colt not wear blinkers at today's meeting as it was the opinion of the stable that the colt would over-race with the blinkers, and would perform best without them. Mr. Zahra further explained that "Doubtful Sound" had trialled to wear blinkers subsequent to its only start on the 3rd March, but had not worked with the blinkers during this preparation and that the stable had advertently failed to gain permission to remove the blinkers from the colt's record prior to today. The Stewards acceded to Mr. Zahra's request, and will interview Mr. Ellerton with respect to the matter.

At the start "Doubtful Sound" bounded in the air and then shortly afterwards "Doubtful Sound", "Nero's Fiddle" and "Partiro" were tightened for room by "Prince Ali", which shifted in.

"Prince Ali" then continued to race greenly, and shifted in away from "Tomakomai", which resulted in "Doubtful Sound" and "Partiro" being hampered.

Approaching the 600 metres "Bushfire" was eased off the heels of "Nero's Fiddle", which shifted out, and "Uffizi", which was following, was then eased in consequence.

Rounding the home turn "The Forecaster" was eased off the heels of "Nero's Fiddle".

Race 2 - HOLDEN MAIDEN PLATE - 2240 metres:

Race 3 - LADIES DAY SEPT. 21 MAIDEN PLATE - 1225 metres:

Race 4 - JOIN THE GRC TODAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1225 metres:

"Look to Monaco" jumped away awkwardly, and lost ground.

Near the 1100 metres "Charlette's Star" had to be checked when tightened for room between "Hot Fame", which was taken in slightly by "In our Dreams", and "Theatregoer" (B. Fenech), which shifted out. B. Fenech was notified to exercise care when shifting ground in future.

Shortly after this "Hot Fame" was hampered by "Theatregoer", which shifted out.

Near the 800 metres "The Pharmacist (NZ)", when being restrained, had to be eased to avoid the heels of "Hot Fame", which shifted out slightly.

D. Nikolic, rider of "Throng (NZ)", which performed below expectations, explained that he could offer no explanation for the gelding's poor performance. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 5 - CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1325 metres:

Rounding the home turn "Levendiz" was hampered by "Dinaar (NZ)" (A. Findlay), which shifted out. A. Findlay was reprimanded, and notified to exercise far more care when shifting ground in future.

In the early part of the straight "Dinaar (NZ)" was disappointed for a run.

D. Nikolic, rider of "Desert Arrow" which performed poorly, explained that the gelding never handled today's track conditions. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

B. Prebble, rider of "Havana Town (NZ)", could offer no explanation for the gelding's disappointing performance. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 6 - GEELONG CUP CARNIVAL OCT. 22-23 CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1525 metres:

After being placed in its starting stall "Next of Ken" became unruly. The gelding was removed from the stall, and examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, who reported that "Next of Ken" was unfit to run. Acting on this advice the Stewards withdrew "Next of Ken" from the race at 3.30 p.m.

Subsequently the Stewards ordered that all monies bet on "Next of Ken" be refunded, and that all successful bets on horses prior to the time of withdrawal of "Next of Ken" be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win Bets: Nine cents; Place Bets: Ten cents; Winning Concession Bets: Nine cents, and Doubles Bets: Nine cents. All monies bet after the Stewards' declaration of withdrawal were ordered to be paid at face value of the ticket.

Acting on a report form the Starter regarding the unruly behaviour of "Next of Ken" in the starting stall, the Stewards notified Mr. Watson, who was representing trainer Mr. Leon Corstens, that an official warning would be recorded against the gelding and prior to racing again he must produce a barrier test certificate for it.

Shortly after straightening "Soo" shifted out and brushed "Divide and Conquer (NZ)".

Vincent Hall, rider of "Soo" which had performed poorly, explained that the mare felt amiss in its action. The Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that he could find no abnormality.

Race 7 - BUCKLEY'S CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1733 metres:

Prior to correct weight Tony Carson, rider of "Jasper Ruler", third past the post, viewed the Stewards' videos and decided not to lodge an objection.

An inquiry into the reason for D. Nikolic being dislodged from "Terrace (NZ)" over the concluding stages was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
