Andrea Upstages Her Male Rivals at Sandown

Female jumps jockey Andrea Beveridge has upstaged her male rivals in the Fiscom Hurdle (3156m) at Sandown today, by downing the favourite after a faultless riding display on the talented jumped Bubble Gum.

Beveridge was able to get her mount to settle beautifully just behind the leaders before switching out to tackle the leader and favourite Woody Woodpecker.

By the time they had reached the final jump Bubble Gum had ranged up on the outside and put in a much better leap to hit the front with about 200 metres to run.

The Pakenham trained gelding made it back to back wins following his last start narrow win at Hamilton just over a week ago.

A son of Gold Carat, Bubble Gum was a maiden on the flat, but has now made it three wins from just five starts, and he is yet to miss a place over the obstacles.

The race was incident free before the in form Etoile Polair corkscrewed and lost the rider at the second last fence.

Today’s win by Bubble Gum helped erase some of the recent frustration for Beveridge when she was dislodged from the talented hurdler Tarlan at her most recent metropolitan jumps ride at Werribee last month.

But it was a different story for favourite punters. Today Bubble Gum was the outsider in the small field, as compared to her being an odds-on favourite when she rode Tarlan at Werribee.
