Race 1 - GALWAY RACE COMMITTEE TRIAL HURDLE - 2800 metres:

A veterinary examination of "Tarlan", which dislodged its rider at the first hurdle and continued throughout the race riderless, failed to reveal any abnormality.

On jumping the hurdle near the 700 metres "Liston" was tightened on to "Philanthrop" by "Morceli", which shifted out.

After passing the 600 metres "Morceli" was tightened for room by "Liston", which was taken in by "Philanthrop", which shifted in under pressure. Adam`Trinder, rider of "Philanthrop", was reprimanded and notified that he must make a far greater effort to keep his mount straight when in similar circumstances.

"Westrock Prince", which hung out throughout the race, sustained grazes to both hind legs.

Race 2 - SUPER VOBIS RAINBURST HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

Prior to the declaration of correct weight R. McLeod, rider of "Toast of the Coast", fourth past the post, viewed the Stewards' patrol video and lodged an objection against "Shell I Swing" being declared third placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference near the 100 metres. After the parties had viewed the Stewards' patrol videos and the TV version of the race, and after the Stewards had listened to the submissions of the parties concerned, they dismissed the objection.

It was established that "Shell I Swing", which had been held up rounding the home turn, brushed "Toast of the Coast" in the early part of the straight when obtaining a narrow run on the inside of that filly. "Toast of the Coast" had a tendency to shift out towards "Shell I Swing", which then shifted in slightly.

"Bold Cheree", which dislodged its rider en route to the barrier, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

"Scent of Romance" was held up when unable to obtain a clear run rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

Race 3 - SUPER VOBIS ELOUNDA BAY HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

On jumping away "Zylvester" was hampered when tightened for room between 'Striking Charge" and "Lord Harold", which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.

G. Childs, rider of "Lord Harold" which performed below expectations, stated that the gelding over-raced in the early stages of the race, and was hampered by "Gold Express" when bumped by that gelding, which shifted out after passing the 600 metres. G. Childs said that "Lord Harold" did not respond after that incident, and gave ground from the entrance to the straight.

.N Callow, rider of "Argonaut", was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that he permitted his mount to shift in passing the 600 metres when not sufficiently clear of "Gold Express", which resulted in "Gold Express' having to be checked. N. Callow was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Sunday, 25th August, 2002, and to expire at midnight on Saturday, 14th September, 2002.

Just prior to straightening "Gold Express" was tightened on to "Lord Harold" by "Striking Charge", which was taken out by "Gold Attire" which, when laying out, shifted out to improve its position.

"Gold Express" was again hampered near the 100 metres when it had to shift out to avoid the heels of "Regicide".

Race 4 - WATTON HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

Prior to the declaration of correct weight D. Oliver, rider of "Lightuma", second past the post, viewed the Stewards' patrol videos and decided not to lodge an objection.

It was established that in the early part of the straight "Lightuma" shifted out to improve its position on the outside of "Sir Sphinx" which shifted out slightly, and brushed "Casino Boy". "Casino Boy" then shifted in slightly.

After being placed in its stall "Casino Boy" reared and became temporarily cast. "Casino Boy" was removed from the starting stall, examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

Rounding the home turn "Gaju Chief" was temporarily held up for a run when racing close to the heels of "Lightuma".

"Gaju Chief" also had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the straight.

"Lightuma" and "Casino Boy" then raced tight in the run to the winning post as "Casino Boy" was shifting in slightly under pressure.

Race 5 - WERRIBEE RACECOURSE HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Near the 700 metres "Piachay (NZ)" had to be checked when tightened for room by "Western Waters", which got its head up and shifted in away from "Calling O'Reilly (NZ)", which had shifted in before being straightened.

K. McEvoy, rider of "Dane River" which performed below expectations, stated that the gelding was reluctant to race throughout, and hung in when put under pressure in the straight. McEvoy added that "Dane River" appeared normal on pulling up.

Jason Patton, rider of "Calling O'Reilly (NZ)" which performed below expectations, stated that from an outside barrier he elected to ease in an endeavour to avoid being caught wide rounding the first turn. Patton added that he then had to check "Calling O"Reilly (NZ)" off the heels of "Sure Bet" near the 700 metres, and "Calling O'Reilly (NZ)" did not respond as he would have expected from the home turn. Jason Patton said that the horse felt normal on pulling up, and a veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 6 - VRC AT WERRIBEE HANDICAP - 1000 metres:

Near the 600 metres "Billie's Dream" brushed the running rail, and again brushed the running rail and became unbalanced near the 300 metres when again racing tight on the inside of "Sacred Model".

Reece Wheeler, rider of "Chardonnay and Ice", explained that he took hold of the mare as he was instructed from an outside barrier to ride the mare from behind. Wheeler added that he was then held up for a run rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, and when able to get a clear run "Chardonnay and Ice" had a tendency to lay out in the run to the winning post.

"Galapagos Girl" lost its near fore plate during the race.

Race 7 - ROM'S STILLETO HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

On jumping away "Midori Gift" shifted out and tightened "Check our Beez" on to "Miss Prosperity".

Near the 500 metres "Duval" brushed the running rail when tightened for room by "Ena's Treasure", which was racing tight on the inside of "Silver Boom", which shifted in and improved its position on the inside of "Super Sleek" which, after being taken out slightly by "Scarlet", then shifted in slightly.

In the straight "Miss Prosperity" shifted out to obtain a run and tightened "Ena's Treasure" on to "Dance the Music", which resulted in both those horses being hampered. Brady Cross will be reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when obtaining runs in future.

Race 8 - NOBLE COMMENT HANDICAP - 2600 metres:

Approaching and passing the 200 metres "Prime Target (NZ)", which was making ground, had difficulty obtaining a clear run before switching to the outside of "Tribal Class (NZ)" near the 100 metres.

S. Baster, rider of "Living End (GB)", stated that after getting back in the race he elected to wait for a run from the 800 metres as he would have been forced to race wide to improve his position from that point. Baster added that he made an effort to improve on the latter part of the home turn, but he was forced to travel wide.

Bookmaker Mr. Campbell McCutcheon was today reprimanded for having in his possession a mobile phone other than the one issued by Racing Victoria Limited.

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of all races today.
