Race 1 - BATTLE FOR AUSTRALIA HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

In the early and middle stages of the race "Chickie" got its head up and over-raced for some distance.

"Chickie" was then held up rounding the home turn when unable to obtain a clear run.

Approaching the 200 metres "Chickie" shifted out and inconvenienced "Bellered" when attempting a run on the outside of "Good Thing (NZ)".

After being inconvenienced "Bellered" then had to shift out to obtain a clear run.

Race 2 - CORPS OF COMMISSIONAIRES HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

John Wheeler, trainer of "Rocky Point (NZ)", was fined $50 for presenting the gelding in the mounting yard without blinkers.

Shortly after the start "Freegold" shifted out slightly and took "Southern Crown" out on to "Rocky Point (NZ)" and "Anyone we Know (NZ)", which made contact with the hindquarters of "Shally's Magic".

Race 3 - RSL VAIN STAKES - 1200 metres:

"Helenus" bounded in the air on jumping away, and lost ground.

Near the 600 metres "Rohatyn (NZ)" had to be eased off the heels of "Cyberiad" when that colt had to be steadied off the heels of "Natural Blitz" which shifted in.

Just prior to straightening Acee Deecee (NZ)", which was having difficulty obtaining a clear run, had to be eased off the heels of "Broadband", `which improved on its outside.

"Step Ahead" had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, and near the 200 metres "Major Woody", which was racing outside "Step Ahead", shifted out abruptly and became unbalanced.

At the entrance to the straight "Great Glen" and "Natural Blitz" came together due mainly to "Natural Blitz" shifting in.

Race 4 - MELBOURNE LEGACY QUEZETTE STAKES - 1200 metres:

Near the 700 metres "Romantic Flyer" had to be eased off the heels of "Crystal Decanter", which shifted in.

Commencing the home turn "Class Success" commenced to hang out, and hung out for the remainder of the home turn and in the straight, and for this reason Kerrin McEvoy, rider of the filly, eased it down over the concluding stages. Subsequently, after taking evidence from Kerrin McEvoy, who rode "Class Success", and Mr. Michael Moroney, trainer, the Stewards notified Mr. Moroney that "Class Success" is not permitted to start until such time as the filly performs to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial.

Approaching the winning post "Crystal Decanter" had to be steadied off the heels of "Raven Protector", which shifted out under pressure.

Race 5 - J. J. LISTON STAKES - 1400 metres:

Near the 1100 metres "Elegant Fashion" had to be checked off the heels of "Piper Star", which shifted out.

Race 6 - BACK TO CAULFIELD RACEDAY HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Prior to the declaration of correct weight N. Callow, rider of "Runs to Win", second past the post, viewed the Stewards' video and decided not to lodge an objection.

C. Newitt, rider of "El Nino", was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out approaching the winning post, inconveniencing "Runs to Win", and taking that horse out off its course.

After passing the 100 metres "Panoramic Lad", which was making ground, had to be eased off the heels of "Chong Tong", which was taken out slightly by "Paternal".

R. E. Laing, trainer of "Roman Arch", was fined $30 for using wrong colours on the horse.

During the running of the race "Upright" lost its off hind plate. 

Race 7 - SIR EDWARD DUNLOP RESEARCH FOUNDATION STAKES - 1200 metres:

Near the 600 metres "Moon Dragon", when being eased off the heels of "Past the Skies", threw its head in the air and lost ground.

In the early part of the straight "Crimson Gem" was accidentally struck on the head by the whip of Rhys McLeod, rider of "Shattered Love".

"Tyrolean", which was making ground, had to change course in the straight to obtain a clear run.

After passing the 100 metres "Ruby Slipper" had to be eased off the heels of "Haste Ye Back", which shifted in under pressure.

During the running of the race the saddle on "Rory's Jane" shifted back, which inconvenienced Noel Callow, its rider.

Race 8 - THE KOKODA TRACK HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Near the 1200 metres "Stoneleigh Road", which was shifting in, had to be checked off the heels of "Chiming Door".

D. Oliver, rider of "Chiming Door" which performed below expectations, stated that the gelding had a tendency to lay out and was a beaten horse, and he believed that something was amiss with it. Oliver added that on pulling up and returning to scale "Chiming Door" felt normal.

Race 6 (Continued): The Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported tat "Make Mine Magic" had sustained an injury to its off fore fetlock.

Race 7 (Continued): The Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that "Haste Ye Back" was galloped on, on the near hind leg. 

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of all races today.

ADJOURNED INQUIRY:

An inquiry into the reason for Luke Nolen failing to fulful his engagement to ride "Stoneleigh Road" in the Kokoda Track Handicap was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

SUMMARY

FINES J. Wheeler, trainer of "Rocky Point (NZ)", was fined $50 for presenting the horse to race without blinkers. Race 2.

R. E. Laing - "Roman Arch" - was fined $30 for using wrong colours on the horse.

SEVERE REPRIMANDS & SUSPENSIONS: C. Newitt - "El Nino" - was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift ground, and take "Runs to Win" off its course. Race 6.
HORSE ACTIONS: Race 4 - "Class Success", which hung out badly, is not permitted to start until it trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial.
