Race 1 -PAYNESVILLE OLD PUB MAIDEN PLATE 1000 metres:

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Ms R. Nairn who was representing Mr Bill Mitchell, trainer of "'GINGER", who stated that subsequent to scratching time this morning "GINGER" was found to be suffering from an elevated temperature and was therefore unfit to run, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "GINGER " at 8.27 a.m. A Veterinary Certificate in respect of "GINGER" was submitted to the race Club.
Shortly after the start "CAFÉ DANZA" knuckled.
Near the 500 metres "ETHEL MAY" and "CAFÉ DANZA" had to be checked when tightened for room between "BALLY MITCHELL" and "GET READY FOR THIS" which was taken out slightly by "INNES CASTLE" which shifted out.

Race 2 - SPRING MAIDEN PLATE (1) 1400 metres

When the gates opened "INQUISITIONAL" jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
D. Nikolic, rider of "REFUTE" fifth placegetter, stated to the Stewards that he stopped riding his mount approaching the winning post as he believed he was getting close to the heels of "KAARLA" the third placegetter. Stewards notified D. Nikolic that in future he must ride all his mounts out in a manner that leaves no room for query.

Race 3 -SPRING MAIDEN PLATE (2) 1400 metres:

When the gates opened "OKA" stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Mr G. Mallinson, trainer of the gelding, was notified that Stewards were placing a warning against the gelding for its performance today and should it perform in a similar manner again action may be taken against it.
In the early stages of the race "MERETICIAN" overraced.

Race 4 -SUPER VOBIS THREE YEARS OLD FILLIES CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 metres

Race 5 -SEPTEMBER MAIDEN PLATE 1700 metres:

V. Hall rider of "DETERMINATOR (NZ)" which performed poorly, stated to the Stewards that in the early stages of the race the saddle on "DETERMINATOR (NZ)" shifted forward placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. He also stated that his mount was a beaten horse at the 500 metres. Subsequent to the race a veterinary examination of "DETERMINATOR (NZ)" was showing no abnormalities.

Race 6 - CARLTON DRAUGHT HANDICAP 1400 metres:

Race 7 - PUBLICANS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1500 metres:

At the entrance to the straight "CHRYSAETOS" which was hanging out, shifted out and hampered "DIVIDE AND CONQUER (NZ)" and "BELRICH". For the remainder of the straight "CHRYSAETOS" hung out badly. Mr A. Evett, foreman for Mr C. Brown, trainer of "CHRYSAETOS" was notified that Stewards were placing a warning against the horse for its performance today and that should it perform again in a similar manner action may be taken against it.

Race 8 - STEEPLES OF MORNINGTON CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200 metres:

On jumping away "TOUCH OF AMBER" knuckled.

Race 9 - HOTELIERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1700 metres:

Shortly after the start "METRONOME" had to be checked when tightened for room between "BOYD" and "MAKYBE DIVA (GB)" which was taken out by "LOCH 'N' ROLL" who in turn was taken out slightly by "WHAT A NATURAL (NZ)".
Approaching the winning post "STRAWBERRY AFFAIR (NZ)" shifted out and inconvenienced "MAKYBE DIVA (GB)".

SWAB SAMPLES -

Routine swab samples were taken from the following winners:
Race 2 - ABSCISSION.
Race 3 - BELGRADE.
Race 4 - LANA BELLE.
Race 6 - BOORTKOI MUSTANG.

A random swab sample was taken from:
Race 8 - ADAMARTAIG.

Five horses were today pre-race blood tested for post-race analysis.

FINES AND EXPLANATIONS:

Race 6 - Stewards accepted the explanation offered by Mr C. Parry trainer of "TOUCH OF MAHOGANY" regarding his late notification of a rider.

Mr C.I. Brown was fined a total sum of $30 for using the wrong colours on his respective horses: SEFTON, CHANCELOT, DETERMINATOR (NZ), CHRYSAETOS.
