Callow Suspended at Werribee

r4noelcallow.jpg (12551 bytes)Popular Melbourne jockey Noel Callow has suffered a set back for the start of the spring carnival after being suspended yesterday.

Stewards outed the rider after charging and finding him guilty of careless riding at yesterday's VRC meeting at Werribee.

The suspension will see Callow out of the saddle for three weeks.

Officials ruled that he allowed his mount Argonaut to shift in when insufficiently clear of rival Gold Express at the 600 metre mark in the Elounda Bay Handicap.

Gold Express was checked and lost its position in the incident, while Argonaut wound up in sixth place.

Callow's suspension will begin at midnight on Sunday and expire at midnight on September 14.

The race was won by the Mathew Ellerton trained Snippets colt Noble Start with Luke Currie in the saddle.
