Race 1 - REGAL ROYAL STEEPLECHASE - about 3200 metres:

The Stewards authorised the withdrawal of "Montana Magic" at 8.35 a.m. as Carol Faithfull, trainer of the gelding, was unable to obtain the services of a jockey for the gelding.

The Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that "Sir View (NZ)" had pulled up lame in the off fore leg. Mr. G. Richardson, trainer of the gelding, will be notified that he must produce a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to it racing again.

Race 2 - PROGRAMMED MAINTENANCE SERVICES HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

"Bisous" shifted in on jumping away and hampered "Mootang".

Near the 1200 metres "Peace Ruler" got its head up when being eased off the heels of "Bisous", which shifted in.

During the running of the race "Bisous" suffered a wound to its off hind leg.

Race 3 - WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS HANDICAP - 1000 metres:

"Commonwealth Bay" was slow to begin.

Near the 500 metres "Wolseley Parade" brushed the running rail, and became unbalanced.

On return to scale it was noted that "Anakin Solo" had lost its off hind plate.

Race 4 - MOONEE VALLEY WEDDING EXPO SUNDAY 6TH OCTOBER HANDICAP - 3000 metres:

As B. Park did not have a firm engagement to ride "Alobar" and had not arrived on course, and as no other senior rider was available, the Stewards permitted R. Wheeler to be substituted as the rider of the gelding.

Near the 1200 metres "Tawtrice", which hung in throughout the race, shifted in and hampered "Mamanuca".

B. Prebble, rider of "Jasper's Gold" which performed below expectations, stated that the gelding, which weakened from the 800 metres, did not feel right in its action and may have jarred up during the race. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 5 - DAMIEN OLIVER'S 4TH SCOBIE MEDAL HANDICAP - 1000 metres:

"Momentum" jumped away awkwardly.

"Grand Falls" bounded in the air on jumping away, unbalancing its rider, D. Oliver, which resulted in the gelding losing ground.

"Hickory Dickory", which was leaning against the side of the stalls, also jumped away awkwardly, and lost ground.

"Momentum" hung out rounding the home turn.

"Pompous", which had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn, and was giving ground in the straight, became unbalanced when tightened slightly between "Super Suave" and "Steel King" due to both horses shifting ground.

D.Oliver, rider of "Grand Falls", stated that after missing the start he was then inconvenienced when tightened slightly running to the 600 metres, and that "Grand Falls" had a tendency to lay in for the remainder of the race.

Race 6 - SUPER VOBIS GARY GAY HANDICAP - 1000 metres:

On jumping away "Edgeton" shifted out abruptly, and hampered "Sorell Creek".

After jumping away "Costalette" knuckled. "Costalette" then shifted in and hampered 'Bella Vichy".

Shortly after the start "Bella Vichy" was hampered when tightened for room between "La Bella Dame", which shifted out slightly, and "Costalette", which shifted in.

Ivan Culliver, rider of "Costalette", was notified that he must ensure that he is clear of other runners when shifting ground at all times.

Running to the 600 metres "Oamaru Town" had to be eased off the heels of "Costalette", which shifted in. "Balletamis", which was following, was hampered.

Rounding the home turn "Bella Vichy" was held up before switching to the outside to obtain a clear run at the entrance to the straight.

Race 7 - CARLTON DRAUGHT HANDICAP - 1533 metres: Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. Jim Melton, foreman for Mr. Graham Richardson, trainer of "Our Santolina (NZ)", who stated that the mare had an elevated temperature and was unfit to run, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "Our Santolina (NZ)" at 8.50 a.m. Mr. Richardson will submit a veterinary certificate for the mare.

Approaching the 800 metres "Stealth Knight", which was over-racing, shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of "Soviet Son".

"Bergamia" was held up when unable to obtain a clear run rounding the home turn.

M. Pumpa, rider of "Soviet Son" which weakened badly from the 600 metres, could offer no explanation for the gelding's poor performance. A veterinary examination of "Soviet Son" failed to reveal any abnormality.
