Race 1 - CARANNA SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Near the 300 metres "Alhazen", which had obtained a narrow run on the inside of "Schumpeter" which had shifted out slightly, was tightened for room due to "Schumpter" shifting in slightly. When tightened "Alhazen" brushed the running rail and shifted out towards "Schumpeter". "Alhazen" then clipped the heels of "Schumpeter", resulting in C. Newitt, its rider, being dislodged. Whilst the Stewards believed that there were some circumstances they notified D. Oliver, rider of "Schumpeter", that he must make every effort to ensure that he leaves room on his inside for runners which have obtained runs.

After passing the 200 metres "Nyneleven (NZ)" shifted out and brushed "Peace Ruler" when "Nyneleven (NZ)" was taken out slightly by "Conspectus" when attempting to improve its position on the outside of that colt.

Race 2 - JOSEPHINE HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

"Never Decree (NZ)" was slow to begin.

"Brava Brava" dipped slightly after jumping away.

Shortly after the start "Never Decree (NZ)" was inconvenienced, and "Willow Run" was hampered due to "Lovage" shifting in abruptly when hanging in.

Near the 200 metres "Cornbread" curled up when struck with the whip.

A veterinary examination of "Never Decree (NZ)" revealed that the mare had sustained a laceration to its near fore leg.

Race 3 - BRAVA JEANNIE SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

On jumping away "Swiss Storm" was tightened for room between "Lana Belle" and "Danse Macabre". After being tightened "Swiss Storm" got its head up.

Near the 900 metres "Chancelot", which was pulling hard, shifted out across the heels of "Light of Day" which had shifted in, and as a result took "Lana Belle" out off its course.

Near the 200 metres "Debben", which was laying in, shifted in towards "Zanna (NZ)". "Debben" continued to lay in for the remainder of the straight.

Approaching the winning post "Zanna (NZ)" shifted out towards "Debben".

Race 4 - SHANNON HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Mr. P. Healey, trainer of "Solovei", was fined $50 for the late notification of S. Baster as the rider of the gelding.

S. Vella, rider of "Jacque", who was given an instruction to produce a medical clearance prior to riding again, failed to do so. S. Vella was severely reprimanded for this omission. S. Vella was examined by the Club's medical officer and passed fit to ride.

Race 5 - CARLTON DRAUGHT HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Mr. C. W. Little, trainer of "Kashkii (NZ)" was fined the sum of $50 for the late notification of D. Oliver as the rider of the gelding.

K. McEvoy, rider of "Lord Mick (NZ)", explained to the Stewards that the gelding had not responded to his riding at any stage of the race, and on pulling up he felt that the horse was sore behind. A veterinary examination of "Lord Mick (NZ)" failed to reveal any apparent abnormality.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight "Kashkii (NZ)" hung out.

Over the concluding stages of the race "Fraar Diavolo" had to be steadied to avoid the heels of "The Almighty One (NZ)", which was shifting in.

Race 6 - AMMON RA HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Approaching the 800 metres "Banff" had to be eased when tightened for room by "Night's Upon Us", which was taken in by "Ghost Party", which was taken in by "Eulalie" (D. Gauci). D. Gauci will be notified to exercise more care when shifting ground.

In the early part of the straight "Eulalie" shifted out away from "Ziparche", which was shifting out.

Near the 200 metres "Eulalie" was taken out by "Ziparche", which continued to shift out under pressure. Both horses continued to shift out over the concluding stages of the race. G. Childs, rider of "Ziparche", was notified that in respect of the incident near the 200 metres he should stop riding and straighten his mounts when in similar circumstances in future.

Race 7 - CARLTON DRAUGHT LUCKNOW HANDICAP - 2119 metres:

Acting on a report from the Analyst that the pre-race blood sample taken from "Manntari Rox (NZ)" had an elevated TCO2 level in excess of the limit allowed under the Rules, the Stewards withdrew the mare from the race at 3.57 p.m. Evidence was taken from Mr. P. Banks, trainer of "Manntari Rox (NZ)", from Dr. P. O'Callaghan, the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, and from Mr. P. E. McMillan, Racecourse Detective. The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
