Race 1 -GALLAGHER/PINEX HURDLE - 3600 metres:

CHOCOLYN ROAD made a faulty jump near the 1000 metres which resulted in P. Greig rider of the gelding almost being dislodged.Prior to jumping the hurdle near the 300 metres BE MY PATRIARCH shifted out and brushed SOVEREIGN TIES which resulted in that gelding becoming unbalanced.

Race 2 - LEADER PRODUCTS SUPER VOBIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres:

SING FOR LUNCH jumped away awkwardly.Near the 800 metres CLEARLY FAMOUS was hampered when tightened for room by MER BEBE which was laying in.Rounding the home turn CLEARLY FAMOUS obtained a run on the inside of RAAMATA which laid out.In the straight CLASSIC COVER had a tendency to lay in under pressure.W. Hokai rider of CLASSIC COVER which performed below expectations explained to the Stewards that he could offer no explanation for the gelding's performance today. Subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that CLASSIC COVER had sustained a small wound to its near hind.

Race 3 - PEDIGREE/HEINIGER MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1200 metres:

After being placed in the barrier PHYSICAL PLEASURE was then removed and examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who ruled that the mare was unfit to run. Acting on this Stewards withdrew PHYSICAL PLEASURE at 1.21p.m. Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered that all monies placed on PHYSICAL PLEASURE were to be refunded and that all monies wagered on PHYSICAL PLEASURE prior to its withdrawal were to be paid as follows: less 8 cents in the $ win, 9 cents in the $ place, 8 cents concession bets, 8 cents double bets. All monies wagered after the withdrawal of PHYSICAL PLEASURE were to be paid at face value of the ticket.On jumping away ESQUILAX jumped out wards and hampered SWIFT MOOKTA.Near the 800 metres BRADEMUS was hampered when racing tight between SWIFT MOOKTA and PETE'S HERO when both those horses shifted ground.On straightening PETE'S HERO was inconvenienced when tightened for room between CHAMPAGNE LIZZY and BRADEMUS (D. Missen) which shifted out. D. Missen was notified to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of other runners when he is shifting ground in future.Near the 200 metres C. Robertson rider of CHAMPAGNE LIZZY was unable to use his whip for a short distance.

Race 4 - BEATTIE'S NEWSAGENCY MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1200 metres:

Prior to correct weight P. Young rider of SAINT CHRIS (3rd place getter) viewed the photo finish for second placing.From the 800 metres until the early part of the straight HONEYED hung out. Mr. B. McKenner Trainer of the mare was notified that an official warning would be placed against HONEYED today regarding the mare hanging and if HONEYED should perform in a similar manner in future further action may be taken.

Race 5 - HAMILTON IMPERIAL FOOTBALL AND NETBALL CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1600 metres:

COMSTAR and SPECIAL REGAL were slow to begin.Rounding the home turn and in the straight CANALETTA laid in under pressure.

Race 6 - DARCY'S TAVERN MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1600 metres:

PHOEBESTAR was examined behind the barrier by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.On jumping away STICK UP shifted out and took FINAL CHANCE out onto ATCHIES CARD which resulted in that gelding being tightened between FINAL CHANCE and LEDLYTA.In the early stages of the race BRIAG got its head up when over-racing.Near the 200 metres FINAL CHANCE was hampered when it shifted out onto the heels of BRIAG.

Race 7 - MERIAL - EXPRINEX HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

At the entrance to the straight LOS TORNEROS was hampered when tightened for room between RUSTIC DRAW and SEX APPEAL which shifted out slightly.

Race 8 - ONE STEEL - WARATAH CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Passing the 1400 metres KEEP IT REGAL got its head up when being restrained.Near the 800 metres HONEY MORN was hampered when tightened for room by VOODOO'S BROTHER (D. Missen) which shifted in and HIROTA which shifted out slightly. D. Missen was severely reprimanded and notified that he must be sufficiently clear of other riders when shifting ground in future.Shortly after this incident KEEP IT REGAL had to be checked off the heels of HONEY MORN.Approaching the 700 metres KEEP IT REGAL was taken out onto the heels of BARBEAN by EUREKA UPRISING (P. Young) which shifted out. P. Young was reprimanded and notified that he must be clear of other runners when shifting ground in future.

G. Hoobin rider of LADY WAKEFIELD, which was eased down over the concluding stages, reported to the Stewards that in his opinion the mare was felt amiss in its action. Subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that LADY WAKEFIELD was lame in the near hind. Mr. K. Smith Trainer of LADY WAKEFIELD was notified that prior to the mare starting again he must be in receipt of a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness.Also subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that MAJOR BOB was lame in the off fore. Mr. B. Dunstan Trainer of the gelding was notified that prior to MAJOR BOB starting again he must be in receipt of a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness.

Race 9 - COOPERS - MAGNUM CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

On jumping away QUEEN OF TARTS threw its head in the air and lost ground.DR. QUOZ jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and hampered MAR DE'S BOY.

Race 10 - WESFARMERS LANDMARK CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

AMEN OUR WRAY was slow to begin.D. Yendall rider of RUNAWAY RHYTHM (NZ) which was eased down in the straight explained to the Stewards that in his opinion the mare had faulted in the going on several occasions and was breathing abnormally during the race and for this reason he eased the mare down in the straight. D. Yendall further added that on pulling up RUNAWAY RHYTHM (NZ) was in a distressed state. Subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that RUNAWAY RHYTHM (NZ) was showing signs of soreness in the off fore.

SUMMARY

SEVERE REPRIMANDS & SUSPENSIONS: Race 7 - T. Barras was severely reprimanded for accepting the rides on LOS TORNEROS and BRICKIE'S GIRL in Race 9 when it was found that he was to be over weight.
HORSE ACTIONS: Race 4 - HONEYED warning for hanging during race
Race 8 - LADY WAKEFIELD & MAJOR BOB produce vet certificates of fitness prior to racing again. 

ADJOURNED ENQUIRY; Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for N. Stanley failing to arrive on course to fulfil his engagements today.
