Race 1 - MARY HOPE MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 METRES.

After passing the 1200 metres BRETOY DREAMS had to be checked to avoid the heels of BRIAG which shifted in away from MR. MOSS. BELLE. RHYTHM, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Shortly after this PRAISED (NZ) was hampered when tightened for room by ROMANTICO which shifted in slightly. BELLARIA then shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of ROMANTICO turning that mare inwards.

In the straight BETRAAZIM hung in under pressure.

Race 2 - COLERAINE SUPERMARKET MAIDEN PLATE - 1800 METRES.

Correct weight was delayed due to the Stewards viewing the Patrol video of the start of the race to ascertain whether BARONESS OF BAMBRA had been denied a fair start. After viewing the Stewards' Patrol Video of the start of the race, and taking evidence from G. Hoobin, rider of the mare, and the official Starter, Mr L. Sheedy, Stewards deemed that BARONESS OF BAMBRA had gained a fair start and correct weight was declared.

It was established that BARONESS OF BAMBRA was slow to begin then shifted in abruptly resulting in G. Hoobin the mare's rider becoming unbalanced and losing the use of his off side iron for a short distance. As a result BARONESS OF BAMBRA lost considerable ground.

Also on jumping away BREAD MAKER was slow to begin.

Race 3 - GREAT WESTERN STEEPLECHASE - 3500 METRES.

No report.

Race 4 - D. & A. SPRIN G & HANKOOK TYRES CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1800 METRES.

Shortly after jumping away HEART OF MAN threw its head in the air and lost ground. Approaching the home turn GLENORMISTON BRAVE had to be eased when tightened for room between HONEY MORN and JUBES which shifted out.

After passing the 200 metres DANNICK was held up for a short distance when unable to obtain a clear run.

Race 5 - KELVINATOR, COLERAINE-CASTERTON ELECTRICS COLERAINE CUP - 1800 METRES.

Approaching the 1600 metres MEET THE STARS had to be checked when tightened for room by JEWEL OF KINGSTON which when over racing accidentally clipped the heels of DINKY BARRY then shifted in abruptly and almost fell. As no one rider was fully responsible for the incident Stewards took no action.

Shortly after this DONARCH was hampered when tightened for room between MR. MUSICAL and LOVE MY PET which was taken in by LOUOTTO.

Near the 1000 metres DINKY BARRY had to be eased to avoid the heels of LOVE MY PET.

Rounding the home turn H.McKechnie rider of DINKY BARRY lost the use of her off side rein for a short distance.

Subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that JEWEL OF KINGSTON sustained an injury to its off hind leg. Mr A.Clark Trainer of JEWEL OF KINGSTON was notified that he must be in receipt of a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness prior to racing again.

Race 6 - COLERAINE HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1300 METRES.

During the running of the race BENYANG lost its off hind plate.

Shortly after the start FAVOURITE SYMPHANY was hampered when tightened for room between KEEP IT REGAL and BENYANG which shifted in away from BRUEGHELDANCER who in turn was taken in by EUROSYMBOL.

Near the 900 metres JARRAH had to be checked when tightened for room by EUROSYMBOL which shifted in away from RHYVALI.

M. Evans rider of KEEP IT REGAL explained to the Stewards that he was unable to ride the gelding out in the straight as KEEP IT REGAL hung out.

K.Post rider of BACONER'S SISTER (4rd place getter) was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. In assessing Stewards believed his actions had not affected the result of the race.

Race 7 - YAT NAT CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1600 METRES.

 Near the 1300 metres CASCADE GOLD had to be checked when tightened for room by MISS MASTER KEY which was taken in by GREAT RELIEF which shifted in slightly.

Shortly after this SOVIET RISING had to be checked to avoid the heels of SARAMEN.

After passing the 1000 metres BLUE RINSE had to be checked when tightened for room by BROTHER JIM which when racing tight on the inside of CASCADE GOLD then shifted in away from that gelding.

D. Missen rider of MISS MASTER KEY (4th place getter) explained that over the concluding stages his mount had a tendency to lay out under pressure and approaching the winning post had to be eased to avoid the heels of GREAT RELIEF which shifted in slightly.

B. Cross rider of SARAMEN which performed poorly explained to the Stewards that the mare was slow to begin and never travelled well at any stage of the race and when put under pressure near the 600 metres failed to respond to his riding. A subsequent Veterinary examination of SARAMEN failed to reveal any abnormality.

During the running of the race SARAMEN lost its near fore plate.

Race 8 - WARD& McNAMARA CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES.

Subsequent to the race the Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that VISTAWAY had gone amiss in the near fore leg. Ms. V. Dishon Trainer of VISTAWAY was notified that she must be in receipt of a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness prior to racing again.

At the entrance to the straight THUNDER LORD was hampered when tightened for room between ROCKOLOGY (NZ) and CAPTAINS'S KEY which shifted out slightly.

Near the 1200 metres VISTAWAY when over-racing had to be checked off the heels of GETTONOAH (NZ).

Stewards today concluded their adjourned inquiry from Terang Racing Club on Sunday 7th July, 2002 into the reason for QUEENLIKE (NZ) being permitted to race in blinkers, after Mr E. Musgrove Trainer of the mare gave the stewards an assurance that QUEENLIKE (NZ) was an approved blinkered horse in jumping races. Subsequently Stewards established that QUEENLIKE (NZ) had not been approved to race in blinkers in jumping races. Mr. E. Musgrove was found guilty of a charge of A.R.175 (gg) in that he gave false evidence the false evidence being that when asked if QUEENLIKE (NZ) raced in blinkers in jumping races, Mr E. Musgrove gave the stewards an assurance that QUEENLIKE (NZ) was a blinkered horse in jumping races when in fact QUEENLIKE (NZ) had not been approved to race in blinkers in jumping races. Mr E. Musgrove was fined the sum of $300-00 for this offence.

The Stewards today concluded their inquiry from the Warrnambool Racing Club meeting on September 15th, 2002 into the reasons for REJECT not being attended to by a licensed person whilst on course at Warrnambool on the 15th September, 2002.

Whilst accepting the evidence tendered by Mr E. Musgrove trainer of REJECT as to the reason why REJECT had not been supervised by a licensed person stewards notified Mr E. Musgrove that it is his responsibility that horses in his care must be attended to at all times and if he is unable to attend a race meeting a letter should be forwarded to Stewards informing them of his inability to attend and nominate the person he places in charge in his absence.
