Three Month Ban for Cranbourne Track Rider

The Stewards today inquired into the Analysts' finding on the urine sample provided by Mr. Barry Jones subsequent to him riding work at the Cranbourne Training Centre on Saturday 24th August, 2002.

Evidence was taken from Mr. Jones and Dr. John Vine, Director, Racing Analytical Services Ltd.

The Stewards found Mr. Jones, a rider, guilty of a charge under A.R. 81(1)(a) of having delivered a sample of his urine subsequent to him riding work at the Cranbourne Training Centre on Saturday 24th August, 2002, which was found on analysis to contain the presence of the metabolites of cannabis (Marijuana).

Mr. Jones who is not a registered stablehand was notified the Stewards would make a recommendation to the Board of Racing Victoria Ltd that any application from Mr. Jones to ride trackwork or in trials not be approved until midnight on 4th December, 2002, a period of three months from when Mr. Jones had been stood down from riding trackwork or in trials.

Mr. Jones was further notified that the Stewards would recommend to the Board that an application to be registered as a stablehand apart from riding be approved.

He was further notified that he must produce a clear sample of his urine prior to being permitted to ride trackwork or in trials again.
