Race 1 - Wimmera Racing Membership Maiden Plate - 2000 metres

Secret Theatre jumped away awkwardly. Near the 1400 metres Simonstyle had to be eased when tightened for room between Secret Theatre and Exponent, which shifted out when being eased off the heels of Blue Zodiac. For the majority of the home straight Simonstyle was unable to obtain a clear run. M Goring, rider of Secret Theatre ,which performed poorly stated that the mare had a tendency to hang out throughout the race and was a beaten horse when placed under pressure from the 1000 metres onwards. A subsequent veterinary examination of Secret Theatre revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2 - Tooheys New Super Vobis 3YO Maiden Plate - 1200 metres

On arrival at the barrier Hardware Lane was examined by the clubs veterinary surgeon who passed the gelding fit to run. Approaching the 800 metres Sugar Foot Stomp was inconvenienced by Zespri, which shifted out away from Hardware Lane. Rounding the home turn Sugar Foot Stomp was taken out off its course by Isanova which had a tendency to hang out. M Pumpa ,rider of Sugar Foot Stomp ,which performed below expectations stated that the gelding never appeared to be travelling well throughout the race and after being taken wide rounding the home turn ran on fairly in the straight. A subsequent veterinary examination of Sugar Foot Stomp revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3 - Clyne Constructions Maiden Plate - 1000 metres

Shortly after the start Fair Day was badly hampered and Bariddy and I Can See Daylight were hampered due to Irish Cent shifting in abruptly. W Hokai , rider of Fair Day, which performed below expectations stated that after being hampered shortly after the start his mount was reluctant to stretch out in the early and middle stages of the race. W Hokai added that once he balanced his mount in the home straight the mare ran on well. A subsequent veterinary examination of Fair Day revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4 -Boronia Peak Villas Fillies & Mares Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr D Laws , trainer of Celestial Twig who stated that the mare was suffering from an elevated temperature, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Celestial Twig at 11:35 am. Mr D Laws will submit a veterinary certificate in respect to that mare. When the gates opened Bread Maker stood flatfooted and lost considerable ground. Prior to correct weight being declared Miss K Helms, rider of Vain Peta, fifth place getter lodged an objection against Sagacious Mover having been declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference near the 150 metres. M Goring, rider of Carissa Ann , third place getter requested to view the Stewards patrol video of the home straight with a view to lodging an objection. After viewing the video M Goring lodged an objection against Our Pebbles being declared second place getter on the grounds of alleged interference from the 200 metres to the winning post. After hearing the evidence from all of the parties concerned and after viewing all of the official videos the objection lodged by Miss Helms against the winner was dismissed by Stewards. The objection lodged by M Goring against the second place getter Our Pebbles was upheld by Stewards. The amended placings being Sagacious Mover 1st, Carissa Ann 2nd, Our Pebbles 3rd, Lesty Prayers 4th and Vain Peta 5th.

Apprentice jockey Justin Potter, rider of Our Pebbles was found guilty of a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that after passing the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Sagacious Mover thereby taking that mare in onto Vain Peta which in turn was bumped in onto Carissa Ann resulting in Carissa Ann being badly hampered and becoming unbalanced, Vain Peta becoming very unbalanced and having to be checked, and Sagacious Mover being hampered. Justin Potter was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence midnight 16th August 2002 and to expire at midnight 3rd of September 2002.

During the course of the inquiry evidence was taken from Miss M. Hodge, holder of a permit to train, South Australia who was in charge of Justin Potter at today's meeting.

Race 5 - Clyne Constructions Warracknabeal Cup - 2000 metres

This race was re-scheduled to start at 3.26 pm.

Race 6 - Shannon Bros Class 2 Handicap - 2000 metres

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr S Harris, trainer of Pharo's Revenge who stated that the gelding was suffering from soreness in the near fore leg, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Pharos Revenge at 11:35 am. Mr S Harris will submit a veterinary certificate in respect to that gelding. On jumping away Deal An Ace struck its off hind leg on the gate of the barrier stall. K Post, rider of Deal An Ace, which performed poorly, stated that his mount never travelled well throughout the race. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained superficial wounds to its off hind leg and near fore leg.

Race 7 - O'connor's Case IH Class 3 Handicap - 1200 metres

Quivira was slow to begin. Near the 800 metres Ruskin had to be eased to avoid the heels of Mar De's Boy which shifted in. Over the concluding stages of the race Vettori Gold was unable to obtain a clear run.

Race 8 - Warracknabeal Amcal Pharmacy Class 1 Handicap - 1600 metres

Harbarty was slow to begin. Rounding the home turn Amia and Rockatan were held up. An inquiry into the manner in which D Yendall rider of Million Storms used his whip after passing the winning post was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

SUMMARY

FINES & EXPLANATIONS:

Race 3 - Mr D Dodson trainer of Surprise Symphony was fined a sum of $30 for using the wrong colours on the mare.

Race 3 - Mr D Weir trainer of Bariddy was fined the sum of $50 for the late notification of D Larsson as the rider of the gelding.

SEVERE REPRIMANDS & SUSPENSIONS:

Race 4 - Justin Potter was suspended for careless riding.
