Sixty Seconds Retired After Bleeding Attack

1005sixtyseconds.jpg (13058 bytes)One of the leading Caulfield and Melbourne Cup hopefuls Sixty Seconds is out of contention for the spring features after suffering a bleeding attack at Flemington today.

The well bred mare was found to have bled from both nostrils after she finished an uncharacteristic last in the field of fifteen.

Trained in New Zealand by Roger James, Sixty Seconds was regarded by many good judges as a leading Cups chance over the next couple of months.

Roger James said after the race that the mare had pleased him in the way she had returned this time in and her build up to the Caulfield Cup.

"She was ticking along really well," he said. "So it's a great pity, but it could have been worse - at least we still have her."

"She will probably be served next year to Northern Hemisphere time in Europe," James added.

She was quoted with leading Melbourne bookmaker Michael Eskander as a $12 chance for the Caulfield Cup before today’s event.

From eleven starts before today Sixty Seconds registered four wins, one second and two thirds for stakes earnings of $376,181.
