Diamond Set to Dazzle in the Spring

Flemington based galloper Tarcoola Diamond will be tested against some of the best fillies in the country after an effortless win in this afternoon's Lady Mogambo Super Vobis Handicap at Sandown.

A winner of two of her three starts to date, the daughter of Last Tycoon started a warm favourite today and gave favourite punters plenty to cheer about when she scored an easy win.

Winning trainer Dean Lawson, who is hoping for a big spring carnival with stablemate Cool Trent, said he had a good opinion of the lightly raced filly and she could be a VRC Oaks prospect.

"She's a very nice filly," Lawson said. "I'd look at running her in the Edward Manifold Stakes and then maybe the Thousand Guineas."

If he does press forward to a run in the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield the filly would be set to clash with the brilliant Ascot Vale Stakes winner Innovation Girl.

"If she's not quite up to them this time in then I'm sure she would acquit herself well in the Oaks races and the Lakewood in Adelaide in their carnival next year."

"She'll run 2000 metres if not further," he added.

In today's race promising apprentice Craig Newitt sat the filly just behind the leader Luminious Liaison before switching off the heels of that filly at the home turn and then strode clear for a soft win.

The last start Bendigo maiden winner Caius finished third ahead of French Elle and She's a Monty.

The big week for Carlton's new AFL football coach Dennis Pagan nearly continued. He is the owner of the runner-up who tried hard after leading through much of the race.
