Race 1 - GRAND CENTRAL HOTEL FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 METRES

Acting on a report from the Starter that Dale Missen, rider of AMBER'S LIVE CHAT, had informed him that due to the filly's unruly behaviour on the way to the barrier and on arrival at the barrier he did not wish to fulfil his engagement to ride AMBER'S LIVE CHAT Stewards ordered the withdrawal of AMBER'S LIVE CHAT at 12.25p.m.

Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered the following in relation to betting - WIN & PLACE All monies wagered for a win and/or place on AMBER'S LIVE CHAT withdrawn by Stipendiary Stewards at 12.25 p.m. to be refunded.

All monies wagered on the placed horses prior to the time of withdrawal of AMBER'S LIVE CHAT to be paid as under.
The winner to be paid at face value of ticket less 6c in the $, wagers for a place on all placed horses, to be paid at face value of ticket less 7c in the $.
CONCESSION - The winner to be paid at the face value of the ticket less 6c in the $. Wagers for a place, on all placed horses are not subject to deduction.
DOUBLES - The deduction in respect of Doubles Bets made prior to the time of the above withdrawal shall be paid at face value of the ticket less 6c in the $.
All monies wagered after the Stewards' declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.

Subsequent to the event evidence was taken from D. Missen, Mr. N.Ellis Trainer of AMBER'S LIVE CHAT and Assistant Starter Mr. P. Doherty. After taking into account the unruly behaviour of AMBER'S LIVE CHAT Stewards notified Mr. N. Ellis that AMBER'S LIVE CHAT was suspended from racing until such time that the filly performs to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a trial.

Race 2 - RUTTER'S RACE PHOTOGRAPHY MAIDEN HURDLE - 3100 METRES

After jumping the first hurdle the saddle of TE MOANA (NZ) shifted forward placing R. Kirkpatrick the rider of the gelding at a disadvantage throughout the race.

After jumping the hurdle near the 300 metres R. Kirkpatrick rider of TE MOANA (NZ) lost the use of his off side iron for a short distance.

Near the 1200 metres HIDDEN ACCOUNT (M. Mills) attempted a run where there was insufficient room between CROWN EAGLE (NZ) and OUR CONTESSINA resulting in both of those horses being contacted on the hindquarters and becoming unbalanced. M. Mills will be notified that he must not attempt to take runs unless there is sufficient room to do so in the future.

C. Durden rider of PEGTON, which performed poorly, stated that after making faulty jumps at obstacles in the early stages of the race the gelding weakened badly in the home straight. A subsequent Veterinary examination of PEGTON revealed no abnormalities.

S. Pateman rider of TOP KALA was found guilty of a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 800 metres, the first time, when not sufficiently clear of TE MOANA (NZ) thereby taking that gelding in onto ZINGE, which in turn was tightened in onto CROWN EAGLE (NZ), which was taken in onto CHOCOLYN ROAD, resulting in CHOCOLYN ROAD striking the running rail and having to be checked, CROWN EAGLE (NZ) being badly hampered and ZINGE being hampered. S. Pateman was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on the 28th August, 2002 and to expire at midnight on the 10th September, 2002.

Race 3 - SLEATBANK OPEN HURDLE - 3100 METRES

A. Garraway , rider of UPTOWN AMBER explained that he pulled the mare up near the 900 metres as the mare had been hanging out badly for some distance. A subsequent Veterinary examination of UPTOWN AMBER revealed no abnormalities.

Ms A. Beveridge rider of BUBBLE GUM, second place getter, will be notified that she must ride her mounts out to the end of the race.

Race 4 - ALEXANDRA HOUSE TABARET OPEN STEEPLECHASE - 3200 METRES

P. Daniel, rider of DOVE EDWIN explained that he pulled the gelding up near the 800 metres as DOVE EDWIN had made a faulty jump near the winning post and had never travelled well after that point. P. Daniel added that DOVE EDWIN felt short in its action after being pulled up. A subsequent Veterinary examination of DOVE EDWIN revealed that the gelding had sustained a laceration to its off hind pastern.

S. Ryan, rider of EL TAJ, fourth place getter, was severely reprimanded for failing to weigh-in. As the Stewards were satisfied that EL TAJ had carried its allotted weight correct weight was declared.

Race 5 - BARBARA MARSHMAN RACING STABLES HANDICAP - 1400 METRES

Shortly after the start OMAR ZAM and PROVEN TIES were hampered when tightened for room between OUR MELISSA'S BOY (NZ) and BLUE RINSE which was taken out by REGAL REVENUE.

Shortly after this incident OUR MELISSA'S BOY (NZ) had to be eased when tightened for room by BUSH BEAUTY which was taken in by KENICCO which shifted in when racing ungenerously.

Near the 800 metres KENICCO ,which had a tendency to over-race had to be checked off the heels of IRRADIANCE for a number of strides after being taken in slightly by BUSH BEAUTY (W. Nolan). W. Nolan was notified that he must make every effort to protect his fellow riders when shifting ground in future.

Race 6 - HAMILTON PRODUCE STEEPLECHASE - 3200 METRES

B. Constable, rider of SAQLAWI (NZ) explained that he pulled the mare up near the 800 metres as SAQLAWI (NZ) was not handling the slow conditions and had made some faulty jumps leading up to this point. A subsequent Veterinary examination of SAQLAWI (NZ) revealed no abnormalities.

Race 7 - IAN McLEOD VETERINARY SERVICE CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES

An inquiry was adjourned into the manner in which D. Mittiga rider of BEACH DAY used his whip at the entrance to, and in the early part of the straight. Rounding the home turn and for the majority of the home straight BEACH DAY hung in.

BERAIL jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 800 metres MISS MASTER KEY was tightened on two occasions by PASSARO which shifted in.

Prior to straightening MISS MASTER KEY had to be eased to avoid the heels of RHYVALI which shifted in slightly.

Race 8 - GAIL & TONY LAIDLAW RACING STABLES CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1100 METRES

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. N. Ferguson, trainer of ROCKOLOGY (NZ) who stated that the gelding was lame in the off fore leg Stewards ordered the withdrawal of ROCKOLOGY (NZ) at 8.35a.m. Mr. Ferguson will submit a Veterinary Certificate to the Club in respect of ROCKOLOGY (NZ).

 RARE PRAISE (NZ) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LOCKER ROOM in onto GETTONOAH (NZ).
