Race 1 - ROISEL STEEPLECHASE - about 3400 metres:     Prior to the declaration of correct weight Paul Daniel, rider of "Sir Oscar", fifth passed the post, viewed the Stewards' video and decided not to lodge an objection.

"What a Mess", which was pulled up rounding the home turn,  suffered a bleeding attack.    As it was the second occasion on which "What a Mess" has suffered a bleeding attack, it is now barred from racing.

When "Rough Patrick (NZ)" fell at the seventh fence "Falknis", which was following, was badly hampered, and "Gilligan (NZ)", "Striding Edge", "Maltese Sea Star" and "Sir Oscar" were also hampered.     A veterinary examination of "Rough Patrick (NZ)" revealed no abnormality.

"Striding Edge", which fell at the eighth fence,  returned to scale with blood in both nostrils. After taking evidence from the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, the Stewards notified Paul Preusker, trainer of "Striding Edge",  that he must produce a veterinary clearance with the results of an endoscopic examination prior to the Stewards ruling whether "Striding Edge (NZ)" is deemed to be a bleeder under the Rules of Racing.

When "Striding Edge (NZ)" fell at the eighth fence "Mister Potential", which was following, was badly hampered.

It was established that at the entrance to the straight "Sir Oscar" was hampered when tightened for room between "Maltese Sea Star" and "Pooky Bear", which shifted out.

After jumping the last fence "Falknis" shifted in under pressure, and brushed "Gilligan (NZ).

The Club's Veterinary Surgeon reported that "Falknis" had sustained a wound to its near knee.

Race 2 - HIGHWAYS TABARET HANDICAP -  1400 metres:

Shortly after the start "Gone (NZ)"  had to be eased when tightened for room between "Nevertheless" and "Fradari", which shifted in.

In the early part of the straight "Here for Glory" shifted out and then had to be checked off the heels of "Nevertheless".

Race 3 - TRUNNION HANDICAP - 1200  metres:

"Gala Snip" shifted out on jumping away and inconvenienced "Serious Drink".

Steven King, rider of "Tai Chi" which performed poorly, stated that the mare did not stretch out at any stage of the race, and he believes that something is amiss with it.   A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.     Mr. Jamie Scott, trainer of the mare, was notified that prior to it racing again he must produce a veterinary clearance for "Tai Chi".

Race 4 - LORD DUDLEY SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1400  metres:

"Asian Symbol", which had missed the start slightly, was then badly hampered when tightened for room between "Family Addition" and "C'est Le Reve", both of which jumped away awkwardly, and shifted ground abruptly.    "Asian Symbol" then clipped the heels of "C'est Le Reve", knuckled, and lost considerable ground.    The occurrence was found to be accidental.

Near the 1000 metres "Redwood Falls" had to be steadied off the heels of "C'est Le Reve", which shifted in.

In the straight "Hydrometer" had a tendency to lay out under pressure.

"Regicide" hung in under pressure in the straight.

Race 5 - CARLTON DRAUGHT HANDICAP - 1600  metres:

On return to scale it was noted that "Admiral Robinson" had lost its off hind plate.

Race 6 -  SNIPPETS HANDICAP - 1200  metres:

Near the 200 metres "Atomic Man" and "Gala Chief"  were hampered when "La Rieuse" shifted out away from "Super Impressive (NZ)" when "Super Impressive (NZ)" also shifted out to improve its position on the outside of "Constructor".

On pulling up after the race D. Gauci was dislodged from "Upright".

Race 7 -  GRAND CIDIUM  HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Near the 800 metres "Ballymalachy" clipped the heels of "Minogue" and almost fell when "Minogue" shifted out slightly when being steadied off the heels of "Evil Master", which eased at that stage.

Near the 200 metres "Levendiz" was hampered when tightened for room between "Sabre Sonic" and "Out of Options", which was taken out by "Telford", which shifted out to improve its position on the outside of "Lord Grable", and then had a tendency to shift out away from that gelding.     The Stewards notified D. Oliver, rider of "Telford", that he must exercise the utmost care when shifting ground at all times.

Race 8 -  ARBOREA SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

As S. King was to be overweight the Stewards permitted L. Coffey to be substituted as the rider of "Wild Rapid".   Whilst accepting that S. King was unable to waste due to a mild stomach complaint, the Stewards notified him that should he not be able to fulfil his engagements in future due to being overweight, the Stewards may penalise him.

Near the 1000 metres "Jameela" was tightened for room between "Wild Rapid" and "Sweet Poss" which, when racing greenly, shifted out.

Near the 900 metres "Took a Chance" got its head up when being eased off the heels of "Fairessa".

After passing the 800 metres "Took a Chance" was inconvenienced by "Dextrous", which shifted in abruptly.

On the home turn "Antique" had to be checked when disappointed for a run between "Speck of Ginger" and "Saddler's Silk" where there was not quite sufficient room.

On return to scale it was noted that "Rortrice" had lost its near fore plate.

SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of all races today.
