Gauci Escapes Terrifying Fall

Talented Victorian jockey Darren Gauci escaped serious injury after a terrfying fall at Moonee Valley today.

Gauci was catapulted to the turf when his mount Paris Rock suffered fatal injuries in a fall in the early stages of the Carlton Draught Flying (1000m).

Luckily Gauci escaped serious injury, but he was still unable to ride Old Man later in the afternoon after complaining of shoulder soreness and general bruising.

A winner of five races, Paris Rock was destroyed.

Meanwhile, today's head steward Terry Sharp said no action was taken against any rider in the incident.

"Brian Cox's horse (Curragh Star) raced erratically and we will be speaking to him about it," Sharp said. "But Kerrin McEvoy did everything possible to help Darren Gauci."
