Steven King has taken over from Don Eduardo’s previous rider Damien Oliver who has defected to the Tony McEvoy trained Fields Of Omagh.

Fields Of Omagh won the John F Feehan Stakes at Moonee Valley at his last start over Magical Miss and Le Zagaletta, while Don Eduardo was a promising third in the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield. After that run trainer Lee Freedman said that four-year-old Don Eduardo (ex Diamond Lover) was coming back to his three-year-old form, which finished on the highlight of a win in the AJC Derby at Randwick.

The extra distance of The Turnbull, 200m more than the 1800m of the Underwood, will suit Don Eduardo. The horse’s owner, Eduardo Cojuangco, has the 2400m of the Hong Kong Vase in December in his sights, as well as a possible tilt at the Dubai World Cup meeting next year.

Both Don Eduardo and Fields Of Omagh face the Bart Cummings trained Magical Miss on Saturday. The Danehill mare possibliy preparing for a Cox Plate/Melbourne Cup double like the Cummings trained Saintly.
