Race 1 - MORRIS ROAD MILK BAR NOVICE HURDLE - 3100 metres:

During the running of the race Surf lost its off hind plate. Subsequent to the event Mr. C. Murfet, trainer of Westrock Jet and Westrock Prince which both performed in a non-competitive manner was notified that prior to Westrock Jet being permitted to start in a hurdle race the mare must school to the satisfaction of the stewards in a hurdle school. Mr. Murfet was notified that prior to Westrock Prince being permitted to start in a jumping race the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards in a jumping trial. B. Constable, rider of Surf stated that he pulled the gelding up near the 1000 metres as Surf was not travelling well and in his opinion had gone amiss in its off foreleg after making a faulty jump in the back straight. A subsequent veterinary examination of Surf revealed no abnormalities.

W. Harnett, rider of Happy Ever After stated that he pulled the gelding up near the 500 metres as Happy Ever After had not travelled well throughout the race and its jumping had deteriorated throughout the race. Subsequently the clubs veterinary surgeon reported that Happy Ever After had a slightly elevated heart rate. Mr. C. Near the 700 metres on the first lap Surf had to be checked when tightened for room between Te Moana and Westrock Prince which initially shifted in and was then taken in slightly by Howdyano. Turning out of the straight Chocolyn Road had to be eased when tightened for room between Te Moana and Happy Ever After due to both horses shifting ground slightly.

Race 2 - CARLTON DRAUGHT MAIDEN PLATE - 1700 metres:

Dan Will Burn was slow to begin. Approaching the winning post Praznik shifted in under pressure and bumped Lucky Vein.

Prior to correct weight being declared B. Cross, rider of Chapeau, second placegetter viewed the stewards patrol video of the home straight before lodging an objection against Never Buy Better having been declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference near the 200 metres and from the 50 metres to the winning post. After hearing submissions from all of the parties concerned and having viewed the stewards patrol video and the side on patrol video, stewards dismissed the objection. It was established that near the 200 metres Chapeau shifted out and made slight contact with Never Buy Better. Passing the 50 metres Chapeau again shifted out and brushed Never Buy Better. From that point onwards Never Buy Better and Chapeau raced tightly due mainly to Chapeau continuing to shift out. B. Cross was severely reprimanded for having lodged an objection which in the opinion of the stewards bordered on being frivolous. In arriving at their decision, stewards took into account B. Cross' inexperience.

Race 3 - A1 COOLROOMS MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres:

Prior to the race Mr. J.D. Ryan, trainer of Star Of Noel lodged a lease showing Mr. J. P. Doukas and himself as the Lessees of the mare. An amended stable return was lodged for Star Of Noel showing J.P. Doukas and J.D. Ryan as the nominators of the mare.

Subsequently stewards notified Mrs. G. Zampatti representing Mr. M. Zampatti, trainer of Compendium that an official warning would be placed against the gelding for the manner in which he performed today and should Compendium perform in a similar manner further action may be taken against it. M. Pumpa, rider of Patriarch which performed below expectations stated that the gelding travelled well in the early stages and then failed to respond to his riding from the 600 metres. M. Pumpa added that in his opinion Patriarch was feeling the effects of recent racing. A subsequent veterinary examination of Patriarch was showing signs of a slight respiratory complaint.

Race 8 - DARRIAN OFFICE SUPPLIES CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1700 metres:

Acting on a report from the starter that Harbarty had been fractious after being placed in its barrier stall and dislodged its rider on a number of occasions stewards notified Mr. R. Bruhn, trainer of Harbarty an official warning would be placed against the gelding for its behaviour today and that should Harbarty perform similarly in the future further action may be taken. Mr. Bruhn was further advised that he must produce a barrier test certificate in respect of Harbarty prior to the gelding racing again. This incident caused the start of the race to be delayed.

Harbarty and Royal Pine were slow to begin. Rounding the home Masked Raider shifted out and in doing so took Cedar Springs out onto Glenormiston Brave, Liven Up and Carisbrook Park resulting in Carisbrook Park being hampered. Near the 600 metres Bon Truce had to be eased when tightened for room by Make War which shifted in. Shortly after this incident Mettori had to be eased when tightened for room between Sarahbella and Strive For Gold due to both horses shifting ground slightly. For some distance after passing the 600 metres Briag was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Near the 200 metres Just Be Quoz which was laying in brushed Borrachoso on two occasions.
