Race 1 - M.J. CASEY MAIDEN PLATE 1700 metres:

The start of the race was delayed due to the late arrival of one of the ambulance vehicles.

When the gates opened "SKY GLOW" stood flat footed and lost considerable ground. Subsequently, Mr M. Farrugia, trainer of "SKY GLOW", was notified that an official warning would be placed against the mare for her behaviour today. Mr Farrugia was further notified that should "SKY GLOW" perform in a similar manner further action may be taken.

A post race veterinary examination of "PINDICO" which performed poorly revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2 - T.P. MARTIN SUPER VOBIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE 1600 metres:

"MARAUDING RULER" was slow to begin.

Near the 200 metres "MARAUDING RULER" shifted in under pressure towards "ANGEL'S WALK (NZ)" (N. Stanley) resulting in N. Stanley's whip becoming entangled.

When asked if he could offer an explanation for the improved performance of "BOYD", the winner, Mr D. Harrison, trainer of the colt explained that in his opinion "BOYD" was suited to the firmer track conditions today as opposed to its recent run at Sandown on slow ground. Mr Harrison added that "BOYD" had worked well throughout its campaign and the engagement of a senior rider today may have helped the colt, as "BOYD" can be a difficult horse to ride.

Race 3 - A.R. LEE MAIDEN PLATE (1) 1200 metres:

After being placed in the barrier "BALLY MITCHELL" broke through its stall and cantered for a short distance. "BALLY MITCHELL" was returned to the barrier, examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

Acting on a report from the Starter that "ELGIN" had proved difficult to load, the Stewards notified Mr T. Bannon, trainer of the gelding, that an official warning would be placed against "ELGIN" for its behaviour today. Prior to being permitted to start again a barrier test certificate must be produced in respect of the gelding. These incidents caused the start of the race to be delayed.

"ROCKET ROSE" began awkwardly, then contacted the hindquarters of "RUBE" resulting in "ROCKET ROSE" shifting out and bumping "MERETICIAN".

Also on jumping away "BALLY MITCHELL" was hampered when tightened for room between "TAINT" which shifted in and "HONOUR HER NAME" which was taken out by "NORTHERN SIROCCO".

In the early stages of the race "ABSCISSION" race ungenerously.

Approaching the home turn "ROCKET ROSE" was held up for a run.

Near the 200 metres "RUBE" had to be eased when tightened for room by "QUASIBOSS" which shifted in slightly.

Race 4 - J.V. CANTWELL MAIDEN PLATE (2) 1200 metres:

Near the 800 metres "DANCING DEFENCE (NZ)" was hampered when tightened for room by "TUMBLEDOWN WADDY" which was taken in by "KARMA" which shifted in after being bumped on the hindquarters by "FAIR COPY".

Shortly after this "TUMBLEDOWN WADDY" had to be checked off the heels of "KARMA" which laid in.

L. Currie, rider of "CROATIAN SMYTZER (NZ)" which weakened badly in the straight, stated that the mare travelled well until placed under pressure near the 500 metres then failed to respond to his riding from that point onwards. A subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5 - K.J. ALLMAN CLASS 4 HANDICAP 2200 metres:

"TARLAN" began awkwardly and lost ground.

In the early and middle stages of the race "SALERNO (NZ)" raced ungenerously.

Rounding the home turn and on straightening "LOCHI" was held up.

Approaching the 200 metres "MARTRISTAL (NZ)" (S. Baster) shifted out and took "TARLAN" (N. Callow) out off its course for a number of strides. Shortly after this "MARTRISTAL (NZ)" was hampered and taken in by "TARLAN" which when under pressure shifted in. Both N. Callow and S. Baster were notified that they must stop riding and straighten their mounts to avoid causing interference when placed in similar circumstances in the future.

Prior to correct weight being declared S. Baster, rider of "MARTRISTAL (NZ)" second placegetter, requested to view the Stewards patrol and side on videos with a view to lodging an objection against "TARLAN" the winner of the race. After viewing the videos S. Baster decided not to lodge an objection.

During the running of the race "GNAEUS POMPEIUS (NZ) suffered a bleeding attack.

Race 6 - J.A. MORRISON FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 metres:

On jumping away "FAIR CLARE" knuckled.

Also on jumping away "MERCURY LOUNGE" had to be checked when tightened for room between "SEDDENGA" and "ARK VENTURE" both of whom shifted ground.

Near the 500 metres "GUATEMALA" shifted in slightly away from "FAIR CLARE" which had improved on its outside. "GUATEMALA" then continued to shift in and when doing so clipped the heels of "SLAMJAM" which changed stride and shifted out slightly. As a result of this F. Villella, rider of "GUATEMALA" was dislodged. After taking into account all the circumstances, Stewards took no action.
Race 7 - LIFE MEMBERS SPRINT HANDICAP 1200 metres:

"INFAMY" knuckled on jumping away.

Race 8 - C.F. RUTHBERG MEMORIAL CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1100 metres:

"PHENOMENON" jumped away awkwardly and then made contact with "RUSTIC ROYAL" due to both horses shifting ground.
Miss T. Gray, rider of "BOREMAX" stated that she eased her mount down in the home straight as the gelding began to weaken after straightening and in her opinion felt sore in the off-foreleg. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 9 - P.T. GRAY CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1) 1400 metres:

At the entrance to the straight "TIP THE ATLANTIC" shifted out and took "LACRISTI" wide.

Race 10 - M.A. BLAKISTON CLASS 2 HANDICAP (2) 1400 metres:

After passing the 100 metres "ECHO ALONG" had to be checked off the heels of "PRINCE BAA BAA" when attempting a run between that horse and "ELSARK" which shifted in.
