Black And Bent Injured

Black And BentBlack And Bent has sustained a significant injury and is expected to be sidelined for at least a year.

After finishing a brave second behind Niptious in the final heat of the Banjo Paterson Series at Moonee Valley on Saturday, veterinary scans have revealed damage to his near fore tendon.

''On Friday we will know the extent of the injury after we have another scan," trainer Robert Smerdon told The Age.

"But as we all know, any tendon problem means a full calendar year in the paddock."

Black And Bent was due to contest this Saturday’s $150,000 Banjo Paterson Series Final (2500m) at Flemington.

The four-year-old son of Black Hawk has captured the imagination of racing fans over the winter months, winning six consecutive races – three jumps races and three flat – between April 21 and June 19.

Announced earlier this week as one of ten nominees for 2009/10 Victorian Horse Of The Year, Black And Bent has won the Galleywood Hurdle (3200m) at Warrnambool and Australian Hurdle (3400m) at Sandown this season.
