Newitt Still Kicking Goals

MousselineFresh from kicking three goals in Tuesday Night’s EJ Whitten Legends Game, Craig Newitt continued his equally potent record with the Peter Snowden stable by partnering Mousseline to victory at Betfair Park Sandown Lakeside earlier today.

However unlike the footy last night, there were no scares during the $30,000 Belle Silhouette Super Vobis 0-68 Handicap (1400m) for three-year-old fillies.

“I pulled up good,” Newitt said regarding his own fitness following the game before adding “There were just a few scares when big 'Monkey' (Damian Monkhorst) ran towards me."

"I got out of the way pretty quick.”

Newitt was just as quick to get out of the way of the pack, taking Mousseline straight to the front from barrier two where he was soon able to dictate terms in the lead.

The race effectively turned into a sit-sprint with Mousseline shaking off the challenge of Madam Prosecutor before staving off the menacing swooping efforts of Miss Phromily and Diazling.

Mousseline ($8) defeated Miss Phromily ($7-$8) to win by a length ensuring Justin Wood is yet to secure a Melbourne metropolitan victory. Diazling ($15-$18) finished third a further half length away.

Mousseline & Craig NewittCraig NewittNewitt has now several races for the Snowden stable in recent weeks. He rode Wassaic on Sunday at Ballarat and Soul to victory at Flemington on June 26.

“I need Mark (Zahra) to stay away because it’s been really good,” Newitt quipped.

“She was a little bit slow away the other day but you’d expect her to be either in front or outside the leader today and she got it very cheap.

“Coming to the corner I clicked her up and she got through it (the Heavy going) good,” he added.

With her only victory coming at Kyneton in a maiden over 1469 metres, Mousseline has won two races from seven starts and has accumulated over $25,000 in prizemoney.
