Robdon Flyer Rails To Victory

Robdon Flyer On The InsideTrainer Michael Kent continued his outstanding season winning the $30,000 Lincoln Handicap (2400m) with Robdon Flyer at Betfair Park.

Robdon Flyer ($5,$7.50) was patiently ridden back along the rails by Peter Mertens who took the shortest way home and proved a nose too good for Streaky Fella ($2.25,$2.70) with Quick Bond ($3.50,$3.80) a head away in a three-way go.

Kent praised Mertens performance admitting the five-year-old gelding is not an easy horse to ride despite his consistent strike rate.

“He is a tricky horse to ride,” said Kent.

Trainer Michael Kent“He can really get home hard but if he hits the front too soon he sometimes gives it away.

“We planned to get there late and it worked out,” Kent added.

Scoring by the barest of margins the decision to not leave the rail was significant, something Mertens highlighted was all Kent’s work.

“Mick wanted the horse ridden for luck, he is a horse that likes to have the last crack at them,” said Mertens.

“He came into the race nicely but then hit a flat spot about 300m out, after that the grinded away and the leader came back to us.

“It was a solid win,” Mertens added.

The fourth win of Robdon Flyers careers takes his career earnings to more than $120,000.
