Definitive Wins At Sandown

DefinitiveIf the outcome of the race was decided by the purchase price through the sale ring, Definitive would have won the $30,000 Bore Head Handicap (2100m) at Betfair Park Sandown Lakeside today by the length of the straight.

Definitive, purchased for $1.3 million at the NZ Premier Yearling Sale, won his first metropolitan race today and although the margin was under half a length on the line, the outcome of the race never appeared in doubt inside the final 300 metres.

Plugging away through the Heavy (10) going, the Peter Moody-trained Definitive ($4.40-$4.80-$4.60) defeated Trenchtown ($2-$2.35-$2.20 fav) by a long neck with Onerahi Bay ($4-$5) a further 1-1/4 lengths away.

Winning jockey Luke Nolen suggested the win made up for his second placing at Sandown earlier this preparation.

“This bloke should have won at Sandown, if he didn’t jump at the shadow at the stewards tower in the straight,” Nolen said.

Luke NolenDefinitive“He’s a horse of nice ability and to be going around in Sandown midweeks is slightly frustrating.”

Ridden off the pace, Definitive quickened from the top of the straight before putting in shorter strides in the final furlong to overhaul Trenchtown.

However Nolen assured there was plenty of merit in the victory, “These were always going to be testing conditions.”

Boasting a record of 21 starts for three wins and six placings, Definitive has won over $85,000 in prizemoney.

The son of Redoute’s Choice was placed in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (1600m) in February 2009, behind Pre Eminence and Eagle Falls and has not been gelded by connections.
