Beowolf Repays Snowden Faith

Beowolf Stretches OutFollowing a quartet of minor cheques this time in the Peter Snowden trained Beowolf broke through in the $30,000 Euclase Handicap (1400m) at Betfair Park today.

Beowolf ($2,$2.50) was sent straight to the front by Craig Newitt and proceeded to dictate terms, travelling strongly throughout and opening up a winning break after straightening.

The Luke Oliver trained Stella Command ($2.40,$3.30) worked home honestly for second two lengths away while Sir Charlemagne ($11) was a further length and a half back.

Darley's Victorian assistant trainer Paul Snowden was pleased to see the decision to send the former New South Wales stayer south had paid off.

"Dad sent him down after his last preparation in Sydney with these races in mind," said Snowden.

Jockey Craig Newitt"This is his first full preparation in Victoria and he has been racing well with bad barriers and hitting the line hard after getting too far back.

"It was just good for him to get a kill today and hopefully it gives him the confidence to do it again shortly," Snowden added.

Newitt appeared to have his opposition covered a long way from home and admitted he was confident after straightening.

"There didn't seem to be much speed on paper and he ended up travelling super strong today," said Newitt.

"I was happy with him out in front, he had his head on his chest and when I asked him to go at the top of the straight he gave a really nice kick."

Newitt has made the most of his opportunities with Darley over recent weeks with stable jockey Mark Zahra off the scene, however with the hoop back in the mix Newitt believes he will have to ramp up his efforts.

"It's been great to have the oppotunity is Mark's (Zahra) absence to ride the Darley horses and I guess I'll just have to stick my head in the door and keep him honest," Newitt joked.
