Rue Maple Again At The Valley

Darren WeirRue Maple proved to be too speedy around the tight Valley circuit scoring her second win in succession taking out the $70,000 Triforce Handicap (1200m).

Rue Maple ($1.50,$1.70) lead from barrier to box with apprentice Jarrod Fry evening taking the time for a cheeky look over the shoulder upon straightening.

Tiring noticeably over the concluding stages, Rue Maple was able to hold off the late challenge of Likely Lad ($21) by a length with Charbet ($5,$5.50,$4) a further length away.

It was a case of everything going to plan according to Weir.

"The plan was to go forward with the claim of Jarrod's and run them along a bit," said Weir.

"She gave them the slip on the corner and although she got tired late she held on so it was good.

Weir admitted that he wasn't certain of starting the filly after she suffered a setback during the week but praised the performance of his staff.

"The last couple of days have been touch and go with her due to some hoof problems," said Weir.

"My thanks go to the farrier, vet and foreman back home who worked hard at it over the last week and had her right on the day."

Rue Maple, a three-year-old daughter of Rubiton, has now won than $160,000 in prizemoney from just the four wins.
