Boss Lands First Winner For Dwyer

Glen BossDutchy's Lass set most punters off on the wrong leg when she caused an upset in the opening event at Moonee Valley, but her trainer Shaun Dwyer and jockey Glen Boss were not surprised.

Boss had ridden the Dutch Harry two-year-old filly for the first time at her previous start when she resumed with blinkers on for the first time and lost a plate in running, weakening to finish eighth of 10 to Royal Bender over 1000m at Flemington on July 10.

Dwyer took the blinkers off her on Saturday.

"I told you to disregard (her last run)," Boss said to Dwyer on dismounting.

"She showed a bit of fight. She coasted a bit and when they came at her she kicked so that was a good effort.

Dwyer said it was Boss' first winner for him.

Dutchy's Lass ($26) showed her customary pace to sit second in the MVRC Saves Water Hcp (1200m) and kicked strongly in the straight to hold out Broadcast ($3.70 fav) by a nose with Barangaroo ($4.60) just a nose away third.

Hailing from Queensland where he trained at Deagon, Dwyer is best known as the trainer of dual Group One winner Regimental Gal and also trained Dutchy's Lass' sire Dutch Harry, a stakes-placed son of St Covet.

Dwyer bought stables at Bendigo and moved there in March last year.

Since then he has had 24 winners including five in town, and three at Moonee Valley.

Heartland was his first metropolitan winner since the move at Caulfield in August last year while Dutchy's Lass scored at Sandown last December and Kaavert and Face Off have both won at Moonee Valley.

"I've set myself a goal of one city winner a month for the next 12 months anyway," Dwyer said.

"I've got 22 boxes and horses waiting to come in."
