The ‘King Of Caulfield’ has been introduced to reward outstanding achievements by jockeys, trainers and owners in the Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup Carnival, either in a particular year, or over a period of time.

“This award gives the Melbourne Racing Club the opportunity to acknowledge the participants who have dominated the Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup Carnival, both past and present. With his record in big Group 1 events of the carnival Damien is a natural to be our first King Of Caulfield.” Melbourne Racing Club Chairman Kevin Hayes said.

The ‘King Of Caulfield’ is rewarded with an ornate crown trophy, presented to Damien Oliver yesterday by Carton and United Breweries Managing Director Jim King, and $A10,000 cash.

Oliver is looking again to equal Scobie Breasley’s record of five Caulfield Cup winners, set fifty years ago with Breasley’s 1952 victory aboard Peshawar. Breasley was a guest of honour at the presentation to Oliver and the launch of the Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup Carnival 2002.
