Race 1 - CARLTON DRAUGHT MAIDEN HURDLE - 2935 metres:

Turning out of the straight Acoustics and Tarlan were inconvenienced when crowded for room slightly by Etoile Polair, which when pulling hard, shifted in slightly.

On landing after jumping the hurdle near the 800 metres the first time, Etoile Polair was tightened for room between Pegton and Waratah Special, which shifted out at that jump.

Race 2 - CHAMBERLAINS ACCOUNTANTS MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres:

When asked if he could offer any explanation for Just Waving performing below expectations, B. Fenech the gelding's rider, stated that Just Waving did not feel fluent in its action throughout the event and did not respond to his riding when put under pressure rounding the home turn. B. Fenech further added that in his opinion the gelding was having its first start in blinkers today and may not be suited to that gear. A Veterinary examination of the gelding subsequent to the event failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Premium Red was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.

Stewards interviewed Mr. C. Blackett, representing trainer Matthew Ellerton, trainer of Radiant Energy, winner of the race, As to if he could offer any explanation for the gelding's improved performance today as compared to its pervious start at Cranbourne on 21st February, 2002. Mr. Blackett explained that at the Cranbourne run the horse raced greenly and since having a spell the horse has matured and with the addition of blinkers for the first time today it was the stables opinion this contributed to the geldings improved run today. Mr. Blackett further stated that the stable had not supported Radiant Energy today.

Race 3 - KILMORE EQUINE CLINIC MAIDEN PLATE - 2100 metres:

On jumping away Bubble Gum had to be checked when tightened for room between Jose Fallaci and Something Clever, which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.

After passing the 600 metres Maharano, which commenced to weaken, had to be checked when tightened for room between Ruation (NZ) and Curving, which both shifted ground.

Shortly after straightening Ruation (NZ) shifted out and bumped Curving.

Race 4 - ERIC SALTER PTY LTD CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1900 metres:

When asked if he could offer any explanation for Shakota performing below expectations, Brad Rawiller the gelding's rider stated that Shakota began to shorten stride when put under pressure after passing the 800 metres and then was a beaten horse shortly afterwards. Brad Rawiller added that in his opinion the gelding may not have been suited to the slightly firmer track today in comparison to its previous start on a heavy track. A Veterinary examination of the gelding subsequent to the event revealed that Shakota had an abnormally slow heart rate. Mr. T. Dynon trainer of Shakota was notified that prior to the gelding racing again, he must produce a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness for the gelding which shall include the satisfactory results of an ECG. A blood and urine sample was taken from Shakota.

Shortly after the start Miss Vendes was hampered and tightened for room by Blue Gold Bay, which shifted out.

Race 5 - WILLS ZOCH & CO PTY LTD F 7 M CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Prior to the declaration of correct weight Katrina Cosson, rider of "Tobbio ", 3rd placegetter past the post, in company with Michael Howard trainer of the mare viewed the Stewards' videos and decided not to lodge an objection.

Approaching the winning post Tobbio had to be checked off the hees of Brunette (Michael Connick), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Michael Connick was severely reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Race 6 - DAVID CARTER REAL ESTATE CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Acting on a report from the Starter that Our Melissa's Boy (NZ) had become restless after being placed in its starting stall and on Veterinary advice was unfit to start, the Stewards withdrew the gelding from the event at 3.15 p.m. Subsequently the stewards' ordered the following deductions to betting. All monies bet for a win and/place and concession betting on Our Melissa's Boy (NZ) to be refunded. All successful bets on the horses prior to the time of withdrawal of Our Melissa's Boy (NZ) were subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win bets 4 cents, place bets 5 cents, winning concession bets 4 cents and double bets 4 cents. All monies bet after the stewards' declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of the ticket. Acting on a report from the Starter, that Our Melissa'a Boy (NZ) became fractious after being placed in its starting stall, Stewards notified Mr. E. Batt trainer of the gelding, that a warning was being placed on Our Melissa's Boy (NZ) for its bad barrier behaviour today, and should it perform in a similar manner in future it may be suspended from racing for a period. Mr. Batt was further notified that prior to Our Melissa's Boy (NZ) starting again he must produce a current Barrier Certificate for the gelding.

Correct weight was delayed to enable the connections of Billy Terror, 2nd placegetter, to view the photo finish for first. After viewing the photo finish connections of Billy Terror agreed with the Judges placings and correct weight was declared.

Approaching the 200 metres Tezza Raami, when weakening had to be checked when tightened for room between Anyone We Know (NZ) and Somebody Smiled (K. Newby), which shifted out. K. Newby will be reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Stewards interviewed G. Mathrick rider of Tezza Raami as to his riding of the gelding. G. Mathrick stated that his instructions were to lead, and he was unable to do so due to Somebody Smiled setting a brisk pace in the event and added that Tezza Raami has a habit of throwing its head in the air when being restrained and elected not to restrain the gelding as he was conscious of the horse doing this. Stewards notified G. Mathrick that in their opinion, when it was clear in the early and middle stages of the event that he was unable to lead in hindsight he may have been better to settle the gelding behind the leader rather than compete for the lead with Somebody Smiled.

Race 7 - G F O'BRIEN 7 CO PTY LTD CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

Race 8 - HIGHLANDS CLEANING SUPPLIES CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Angela Barton owner and trainer of Zoffiel, that the gelding was suffering from an elevated temperature and was unfit to run, the Stewards withdrew Zoffiel from the event at 10.00 a.m. Angela Barton supplied a Veterinary Certificate in respect of the gelding being unfit to start.

Legal Reward began awkwardly and lost ground.

Flipper Vargen began awkwardly and then was hampered by Masta Mookta, which was also inconvenienced due to Barford shifting out.

Near the 900 metres King's God was hampered when tightened for room by OurBanjo, which was laying in. Legal Reward, which was following, was hampered in consequence.

Random swab samples were taken from the following winners : Tarlan (Race 1), Spike The Bubbles (Race 7), Velvet Ribbons (Race 8) Swab sample was taken from Radiant Energy winner of Race 2, Shakota unplaced in Race 4

FINES & EXPLANATIONS:

Mr. C. Connors, trainer of "Triplicate", was fined $50 for the late notification of V. Duric as the rider of the gelding which ran in the Eric Salter Pty Ltd Class 1 Handicap- Race 4.
