McEvoy Breaks Lindsay Park Records With Five Winners

r9tonymcevoy.jpg (10523 bytes)The Lindsay Park record books were rewritten today when Tony McEvoy's hot training form continued with another five city winners.

With four winners in Melbourne and one in Adelaide, the winning tally for the month of horses from Lindsay Park reached 36, an all time record for any month in the history on Lindsay Park.

"What can I say," McEvoy said this afternoon. "The last month has been fantastic and things just keep rolling along."

The record for the number of winners by the end of the year was also broken. Since August 1, McEvoy has prepared the winners in 132 races, with still at least another three meetings left in the calendar year.

McEvoy was in Adelaide today but cheered home four winners at the Melbourne meeting in Sandown.

The day couldn't have started any better with the first three winners on the card courtesy of the classy filly More Than Fair, the promising youngster Danzoir and the Sandown specialist Amah Dramas.

Danzoir is likely to head north to race for the big dollars in next month's Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast.

"I'm not sure where he is in the positions of entry at the moment," McEvoy reported. "But I'm really keen on heading up."

Then in race seven McEvoy produced a fine training achievement for the former Hong Kong galloper Danzerani to win first up in Australia.

"He has always shown us plenty and David took his to Hong Kong where he won his first three races," McEvoy said. "He then became unsound and spent a while in the wilderness."

McEvoy now holds a six and a half win advantage over John Hawkes in the Melbourne training premiership, while the margin is 20 in Adelaide.

r6bmartin.jpg (17911 bytes)Prominent race broadcasting identity, Bryan Martin was recently voted unanimously as the new Chairman of the Australian Racing Hall of Fame Committee.

Martin, who has been a long time devotee of racing’s historical significance and relevance to the racing community, is honoured to take on the new position.

"To be associated with a body which primarily is responsible for the promotion and celebration of racing’s luminary figures is a great privilege.

"I have full confidence in the present committee and I believe that in its third year of operation, the Hall of Fame can build on the great work that has already taken place," Martin added.

Martin succeeds well-known administrator and owner, Ian Macdonald who stepped down after establishing the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2001. He will remain on the committee.

The Australian Racing Hall of Fame will this year travel to South Australia where on the 15th May, 2003 thirteen more racing icons will be inducted into the Hall of Fame which already boasts 40 of the biggest names in racing’s history.

The Hall of Fame Chairman was confident the 2003 dinner will be highly successful.

"The dinner next year will be the first time the induction ceremony will be conducted outside of Victoria.

"In conjunction with Thoroughbred Racing South Australia, the Hall of Fame committee is expecting the 2003 ceremony to be highly unique and a key function on South Australian racing’s social calendar.

"The South Australian Racing community are right behind the event and will make it a highlight of the Adelaide Cup Carnival," Martin added.

The 2003 Hall of Fame Dinner will be conducted the Thursday before the Goodwood Handicap and the Adelaide Cup.

The Hall of Fame selection committee are due to sit in late January to review nominations put forward ‘for consideration’ by the principal clubs of Australia.

Another Five Winners for Red Hot McEvoy

{SCPinterestShare href=https://form.virtualformguide.com/racing-news/21928--sp-166757037.html layout=standard image=https://form.virtualformguide.com/quentin/images/0907tonymcevoy.jpg desc=The hot form over the weekend of Lindsay Park continued around the country today when Tony McEvoy prepared no less... size=small}
0907tonymcevoy.jpg (10523 bytes)The hot form over the weekend of Lindsay Park continued around the country today when Tony McEvoy prepared no less than five city winners.

McEvoy cheered home a winning treble at the Victoria Park meeting in Adelaide while a double was also registered at Sandown in Melbourne.

Talented three-year-old filly Madam Dehereos made it back to back wins when she proved too good for Mal De Mer and Oh So Fine in the What's the Verdict Handicap.

About an hour later the Sandown tally doubled when the classy four-year-old Sir Bollinger slaughtered his rivals in a three and a half length demolition job in the Bore Head Handicap.

Since joining Lindsay Park, Sir Bollinger has won four of his six starts and has only missed a place once, when beaten less than two lengths.

A big crowd was on hand at the SAJC's Christmas Twilight meeting at Victoria Park and followers of Lindsay Park would have enjoyed a festive night.

r9sirbollinger.jpg (14303 bytes)Supporters of Romatic Lass were rewarded when her consistent recent form peaked sufficiently for her to score a good win in the Mortgage Choice Plate.

Leading Adelaide jockey Simon Price, renowned for a strong winning strike rate, was again seen at his best when he booted home the filly, who was first past the post before losing on protest at her past start.

The second leg of the Adelaide treble was registered when Go Marion led her rivals a merry dance in the Waterford Development Handicap.

First up since winning a two-year-old event at Murray Bridge in June, Go Marion sent out a warning that a metropolitan success was just around the corner after her dashing success.

The third Adelaide winner, and fifth city success in total, came in the last of nine races when Yvonne scored an impressive debut win in the Wingate Properties Maiden Plate.

With leading local hoop Jason "Stubby" Holder in the saddle, Yvonne dashed clear of her rivals for a win that impressed seasoned racegoers.

Lindsay Park Fires in Festive Season

Lindsay Park has been firing in December with 18 winners in 10 days bringing the stables total tally for the season to an impressive 122 wins.

Tony McEvoy is currently the leading trainer in Australia with two more wins than his nearest rival John Hawkes.

McEvoy is also clearly leading the Metropolitan Trainer’s Premiership in both Victoria and South Australia. Of the last 18 winners in Victoria and South Australia 14 have been in the city.

"We have just had a great start the season and to cap the calendar year of with another big month has been great for the stable and our connections," McEvoy said.

David Hayes trained 306 winners for Lindsay Park in the 1991 / 1992 season and to the end of December in that season had trained 128 winners.

"We are on target for another good season in terms of number of wins and in Metropolitan Adelaide we currently have a 50% place rate meaning that half of our runners have run a place," McEvoy said.

With several quality runners over the next week Lindsay Park’s winning streak looks set continue into the New Year.

r8sheilalaxon2.jpg (12348 bytes)Record breaking trainer Sheila Laxon was operated on tonight after suffering serious injuries in a track fall this morning.

The trainer of last season's champion stayer and dual Cups winner Ethereal, suffered hip and rib fractures when she fell from a horse at Macedon Lodge.

Laxon, who was nearly killed after a fall during her career as a jockey, recently announced she would base herself from the Victorian training complex which had been solely the home of Laxon's partner John Symons.

It is the second time in the past 13 months that Laxon has been rushed to hospital after a track fall since her triumphs with Ethereal.

On December 3 last year Laxon was taken to hospital after falling from a horse during work in New Zealand. She injured tendons in a thumb and required surgery.

Around ten years ago she spent eight days on life support following a horrific fall is Gisborne in New Zealand.
