Lindsay Park Passes 100 Winners for the Season

Lindsay Park Racing Stables claimed its fourth fastest 100 winners for the season when Desert Falcon won at Werribee on 3rd of December. Trainer Tony McEvoy emulated a feat last achieved in 1993 when David Hayes was in charge of the stable.

Questioned about the stable's improved strike rate this season, McEvoy offered a couple of reasons.

"Firstly, in conjunction with David (Hayes) we've been reviewing our training methods and we've introduced some changes in the frequency and duration of exercise based on improved data collected on each individual horse" he said.

"Secondly, a fair percentage of our stable is by sires such as Jeune who tend to have later maturing stock. The time we've given them early on has resulted in them rewarding us now by consistently winning as four and five year olds".

McEvoy summed up the overall strategy by saying "as always we are focussing on improving our horses' mental as well as physical fitness, so they are better able to cope with the pressure of racing. Our aim is to constantly improve our horses so that they can regularly improve on their personal best performance".

Aussies Confident as They Leave for Honkers

{SCPinterestShare href=https://form.virtualformguide.com/racing-news/1516--sp-913588551.html layout=standard image= desc=Australian trainers Danny Bougoure and Lee Curtis are bubbling with confidence as their horses prepare to fly from Melbourne to... size=small}
Australian trainers Danny Bougoure and Lee Curtis are bubbling with confidence as their horses prepare to fly from Melbourne to Hong Kong on Tuesday (December 3) for the HKIR series.

Bougoure, of course, trains Falvelon who has won the past two International Sprints. He also has Mile contestant Scenic Peak while Curtis is also gearing up for the sprint with his four-year-old Mistegic.

Falvelon and Scenic Peak each won official barrier trials at Cranbourne (in Melbourne) last Friday (November 29) to confirm their fitness.

Falvelon won his 1000 metres trial, beating six other horses, in a quick 57.3 seconds. Scenic Peak won a 1200 metres trial in 1.10.8.

'They ran good times without being pressured. Both horses are in great shape,' Bougoure said.

Danny Nikolic rode both horses in the trials. However, Nikolic will be aboard Mistegic in the International Sprint with Damien Oliver riding Falvelon. Nikolic will ride Scenic Peak in the Mile.

'Both horses felt great,' Nikolic said after the trials, 'it's hard to say that Scenic Peak has improved since his Group 1 win at Flemington but he certainly feels strong.

'They went very fast in Falvelon's trial but he was too strong when I let him wind up from the 400 metres. I'm confident Mistegic will run well in Hong Kong but after riding Falvelon in the trial I am worried now that he is going to be hard to beat,' Nikolic said.

Mistegic's trainer Lee Curtis said that Mistegic was likely to race in blinkers in Hong Kong. 'I worked him in the blinkers last Friday and he was really focused. I think they will work wonders for him,' Curtis said.

'I reckon our sprinters are the best in the world,' Curtis said,'and if my horse and Falvelon settle in well when they arrive I think that they have to be rated as the ones to beat.'

Hefty Price Increase for Racehorse Registrations

{SCPinterestShare href=https://form.virtualformguide.com/racing-news/228--sp-402653997.html layout=standard image= desc=The Australian Racing Board has acted under the Australian Rule of Racing AR.24 to increase the fees charged by the... size=small}
The Australian Racing Board has acted under the Australian Rule of Racing AR.24 to increase the fees charged by the Registrar of Racehorses.

The fee for new registrations and transfers of thoroughbred racehorses has not been increased since 1992.

Having held the fee at $70 for more than a decade, the ARB considered it appropriate that the charge be increased to $100 with effect from 1st January, 2003.

The lengthy period that fees have been fixed at their 1992 level - despite the increases in CPI over that time - demonstrates the determination of the Australian Racing Board to limit increases to a minimum.

RACE 2: WANGARATTA PARTY HIRE SUPER VOBIS 3YO MAIDEN 1600M

Jim Mason came across from Bendigo with Rocky Port (Rokoz-Portray) who was following up on a narrow defeat last start at Echuca to take out the hotly contested second race. With only 7 runners any of 5 looked good both on form and in the mounting yard. The first five to finish were by sires Rokoz(USA), Last Tycoon(IRE), Eagle Eyed(USA), Danzero & Mukddaam(USA) which gives you a clear indication of the quality and competitiveness of the country circuit today. The minor placings went to Fubutu from the Caulfield stable of Cliff Brown and Executor trained by Gerald Egan from Mansfield. (Did you know Gerald stood in as Tom Burlinson he was the guy who really rode down the steep mountain chasing brumbies in that famous scene from the movie The Man From Snowy River?) There’s a bit of trivia for you.

This race was sponsored by Wangaratta Party Hire

Steve and Jane Hill have a very full weekend booked with supplying all the marquees etc to both the Wangaratta Turf Club but also for the Jazz Festival in town. The picture above is one of the many events they have done from the marquee to all inside fittings. Indoor Plants, chairs, tables, cutlery, balloons, marquees you name it they’ve got it to make any occasion special.

RACE4: MULWALA SERVICES CLUB MOTOR INN CLASS 2 1600M

Back in a class 2 after having his hoof on the till in higher classes Gorki (Tertian-Moscow Intrigue) carrying 58kg bounced back to winning form. Trainer Geoff Duryea was confident the gelding was fit and suited to the mile so jockey Brian Johns took advantage of the generous Wangaratta straight to let him roll into the race and delegate New Gality to second with Secretive Lady keeping it no secret she was on her way back to form with a good third.

I found a bunch of happy owners kissing and cuddling their horse after the race so we got a family portrait.

How to Pick a Winner on Cup Day

{SCPinterestShare href=https://form.virtualformguide.com/racing-news/17208--sp-179024066.html layout=standard image= desc=With the help of my program Price Predictor that analyses Cyberhorse form, I'm going to tell you how I've picked... size=small}

With the help of my program Price Predictor that analyses Cyberhorse form, I'm going to tell you how I've picked the Melbourne Cup winner the last three years in a row. And I'll illustrate some simple system ideas that will help you pick longshot winners in any race.

If you can't wait to find out what my Cup selection is, just email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and you'll get an immediate reply with my top rated Cup selection followed by instructions on how to download a free version of my Price Predictor program. Actually I'll do better than that - the reply will include my program's top three Cup selections!

The free program doesn't actually rate races but does allow you to view Cyberhorse data (Punter subscription) in a tabular format where career to date and other form/statistics can easily be lined up from one horse to the next. And with the help of a menu system you can instantly locate any horse in any race in any upcoming or past meeting very quickly (yes past meetings remain available to the program provided you don't delete them).

So how do we arrive at our top rated horse for the Cup? Well, the Standard program rates every horse's past five starts as it reads the Cyberhorse form and when loaded instantly determines a base rating for each runner, adds or subtracts bonuses or penalties for various factors and then makes weight over the limit comparisons to arrive at a predicted finishing order.

In the 2001 Melbourne Cup the program rated $9.20 winner Ethereal a $4.50 chance, in = 2000 it rated $17.80 winner Brew a $4.75 chance and in 1999 it rated $6.00 winner Rogan Josh a $2.75 chance. This year's top selection is rated well on top just like the previous three Cup winners and I'm pleased to say it is not from the northern hemisphere! Just email the address given above and I'll tell you straight away what it is.

Now to my methods for picking longshots and the trick is to look for form factors that suggest a horse is ready to win but that are missed by most punters resulting in dividends being much higher than they should. A classic example looks at horses that win their second last start but not their last start. By applying a number of other system rules, the main one being that the horse must be racing over the same distance as its last start, I've developed a system that has made a 76% profit since January 2001 with winners like $29.80 Shirley's Luvena last month in Melbourne.

An even more profitable example is to look at horses that won their third last start but not their last two starts. Coupled with just a few other rules, I've used this idea to devise a system that has made well over 100% profit this year with no less than two $50 winners in the last month alone - $56.10 Green Pick on 26 October and $52.70 Reactive on 19 October (plus there was also $16.30 winner True Glo on 19 October).

Rules for these systems can be easily entered into and retained by my Price Predictor program (System Selector versions) so after downloading Cyberhorse form for upcoming meetings you can determine your system selections at a click of a button. More details on how this is done and selection lists for the above systems can be found on my web site at www.capitalinfo.com.au.

Five Winners for Tony McEvoy

0907tonymcevoy.jpg (10523 bytes)Lindsay Park trainer Tony McEvoy's hot recent form continued today when he trained five winners.

At Balaklava in South Australia he starred with four winners from the seven races. He placed in the other three events on the card.

Alfah Scene sent the day away to a good start when she proved too good in the first race at Balaklava. She thrashed her rivals by nearly three lengths. The winner's stablemate Treeline finished a handy third.

In the very next race Button Counter got to the line strongly to defeat Telite as a well supported favourite. Simon Price was aboard the winner.

Price was back in the winner's stall on the Lindsay Park runner in the fourth event when the Emma Boling owned Pine's Parade scored a good win. The three-year-old filly by Piccolo showed plenty of fight to win by a short half head.

About 35 minutes later the quartet of winners at Balaklava was completed when Tag Jeur, a filly by the Melbourne Cup winner Jeune, scored a three quarter length win. Part owned by former Adelaide Crows premiership coach Malcolm Blight, Tag Jeur gave Simon Price three winners for the day.

Minor placings in the final two races to Renoic (third in Race 6) and Awakening (second in Race 7) rounded out what was another big day out for McEvoy and the Lindsay Park team.

The winning wasn't restricted to South Australia, as the McEvoy trained Dinaar scored an all the way win in the $30,500 Tooheys New Handicap, the feature event on the first day of the Bendigo Cup Carnival. The son of Maroof showed plenty of determination to hold out Mapua after a dashing ride from top apprentice Mark Zahra.
