r1gaiwaterhouse.jpg (8832 bytes)Tough stayer Dress Circle (1998 Easter $100,000) repeated his winning effort of last Saturday, outpointing the rapidly improving Bedouin (1998 Easter Weanling $26,000) to win the STC Hill Stakes Gr 2.

John O'Shea would be well pleased with the effort of Bedouin who was pitched in at the deep end, tackling weight-for-age company after a sharp rise through the restricted grades. He made the quantum leap with ease and could be a real surprise packet when he ventures down to Melbourne.

Bedouin is by Snaadee (USA) from the good producer Pampas Dancer, who's earlier foals include Group One winner Slavonic and smart Sydney staying mare Simonay.

Gai Waterhouse will attempt back-to-back wins with Dress Circle in the AJC Metropolitan Handicap Gr 1 and in his current form the Zabeel six year old will take plenty of beating.

Lightly raced stablemate Red Trinket (2000 Easter $80,000), staked his claim for the Metropolitan with an unlucky second in the Newcastle Cup Gr 3 last Wednesday and is really thriving in his current campaign.

Waterhouse unearthed yet another promising stayer at Rosehill on Saturday when National Treasure (2000 Easter $450,000) stormed home to snatch the last event.

This half-sister to former classy Kiwi sprinter miler Ferragamo, has thrown decidedly to her sire Zabeel and appeals as the type to run all day and then some!

r3bedemurray.jpg (8377 bytes)Leading Kembla Grange based trainer Bede Murray is confident his champion filly Victory Vein can extend her winning run in tomorrow's $141,200 Coca-Cola Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

Murray said the three-year-old filly had trained on "very well" since her last start win in the Group Three Furious Stakes a fortnight ago.

"I'm very pleased with her," Murray told Cyberhorse. "And I'm certain she is going to be very hard to beat again."

It appears as though last season's champion juvenile has scared away many of her rivals tomorrow, with only six rivals yesterday accepting for the Group Two feature.

Victory Vein has drawn the outside barrier in the field which also contains Royal Purler (5), Soprana (2), Chatelaine (1) Ms Bowie (6), Stratica (3) and Quiet As (4).

Murray said he was not at all concerned with drawing barrier seven for tomorrow's second event.

"No it's fine," he said. "If there were seventeen in it there it could be a bit of a problem."

Meanwhile, Murray will fly down to Melbourne on Sunday to cheer home his stable runner Half Hennessy in the Group Three Carlton Draught Guineas Prelude at Caulfield.

The son of Hennessy pleased connections with a gallop at the track on Wednesday morning.

"He done everything what we wanted," Murray reported. "His work was strong."

And in further stable news Murray said Universal Prince had progressed nicely from his "great" first up run and he is on track for the Epsom Handicap.
