After leaving the 150m ST CAIRNS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ARRISTA, which shifted in under pressure.

RACE 2:WALTERS IGA SUPERMARKET QTIS THREE- YEAR- OLD CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1100m

GOLD BANDIT was slow into stride.

LITTLE MARVEL shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 3: HEPWORTH JEWELLERS CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1000m

Stewards adhered to request from connections to ride MARETO MARY hands and heels only.

Approaching the 750m MARETO MARY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ARDRITZ, which shifted in. F Edwards, the rider of ARDRITZ, was reprimanded.

RACE 4: TONKIN STEEL H'CAP - 1000M

CLANDENT was inclined to lay in at the 150 m.

RACE 5: THE HEDLEY GROUP ROY MARSH MEMORIAL CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1700M

MONDIAL was slow into stride.

BIG DIAMOND jumped out at the start, minor contact with BARRON LAD.

After leaving the 1100m, THE TABLELANDER became unbalanced after making heavy contact with BARRON LAD.

RACE 6: XXXX GORDANVALE CUP H'CAP - 1800M

Misunderstanding between trainer K McDonald and jockey T Kowald regarding the engagement for horse AVIARA. Stewards took statements from both parties concerned and it was ascertained that T Kowald would ride ALLEZ SLEW and J Lewis AVIARA.

Approaching the 1000m ALLEZ SLEW tendered to over race.

As R Morris was indisposed through illness, stewards permitted B Swanton to be replaced as the rider of ALBANY - R2.

As App. S McDonald was indisposed through illness, stewards permitted M Spriggs to be replaced as the rider of FAITH MOVES - R2.

As M Smith-Lester was overweight, the following riding replacements were approved:

M Smith-Lester was reprimanded after stewards took into account his good record with regard to weight infringements.

RACE 1: HERITAGE BROTHERS H'CAP (TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN) - 900M.

MR BENSON was slow to begin after jumping awkwardly.

BYBROCCO raced greenly throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination of BYBROCCO revealed the colt to be shin sore in both fore legs.

DREAM RUNNER lost its off hind plate in running.

RACE 2: HERITAGE FUNERALS H'CAP (MAIDEN) - 900M.

Trainer A Bailey, through his stable representative, was reprimanded for presenting ANNIHILATOR and CHICKEN LITTLE late on course.

SHIENDLIN broke through the gates prior to the start and after being quickly restrained returned to take its place in the field.

ANNIHILATOR was slow to begin.

ULTRA SWING was tightened for room at the start between CHIEF SEDUCER and ROYAL PERFORMANCE.

A short distance after the start ULTRA SWING, after racing in restricted room, shifted in and as a result blundered after striking the heels of CHIEF SEDUCER.

Approaching the 700m TELTIME, despite the efforts of its rider, shifted in and away from MAIN BEACH which resulted in ANXIOUS being crowded on to FAITH MOVES which was in turn taken in on to CHICKEN LITTLE resulting in SHIENDLIN having to be checked. TELTIME when being corrected shifted out resulting in ALBANY having to steady to avoid that runner's heels.

RACE 3: FUNERAL PLAN MANAGEMENT H'CAP (MAIDEN) - 1800M.

As BIDDADDABA failed to load the gelding was a late withdrawal at 2:30 p.m. Trainer R Heathcote through his representative, was advised that BIDDADDABA would be required to pass a further barrier test prior to the colt's next race start. On the announcement of ?correct weight', stewards ordered that all monies invested on BIDDADDABA be refunded with deductions of 9 cents in the dollar for the win and 10 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of win and place tickets applicable.

DISTINCTLY IRISH which became fractious and reared in the barriers was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

LUCKY TRADER was severely tightened for room at the start between SWEET ROMANCE and CHICORY both of which jumped awkwardly.

App. S McLean (SWEET ROMANCE) pleaded guilty to a breach of AR8(e) in that he was negligent at scale when weighing out for this race event. S McLean was fined $100.

LUCKY TRADER lost its near hind plate in running.

RACE 4: WES & ASHLEY HERITAGE H'CAP (THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN) - 1300M.

KALIBRA jumped away awkwardly.

GLAMAINE was slow to begin.

Leaving the 700m WORKING CLASS MAN became unbalanced after making contact with MOLLY BE.

RACE 5: HERITAGE BROTHERS H'CAP (CLASS 5) - 1300M.

ICE PATROL was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1250m ALL IN AWE had to be steadied off the heels of SNEEM (S McLean) which shifted in. SNEEM continued to shift ground and after assuming the lead a short distance later slackened the pace which resulted in SHANKADI commencing to race ungenerously off that runner's heels. SHANKADI then shifted out forcing ALL IN AWE across the heels of COUNTERSHOT which caused ALL IN AWE to be checked. App. S McLean was reprimanded over both incidents and advised not only to be fully clear when shifting ground and reminded of his obligations to be fully clear before attempting to slacken the pace. SPLENDIDO which was following also had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ALL IN AWE.

RACE 6: HERITAGE FUNERALS H'CAP (CLASS 1) - 1800M.

COERCED blundered as the gates opened.

Inside the final 150m KEEPETH and PRINCE ADDAMA brushed on 2 occasions when the latter shifted in under pressure.

A Pattillo was examined by the club's doctor and stood down due to a wrist injury. He was subsequently replaced in Race 8 by A Kennedy as the rider of SEMAGIC.

RACE 7: WES & ASHLEY HERITAGE H'CAP (CLASS 3) - 1400M.

As S Shield was held up at the Doomben race meeting he failed to arrive on course in time and was subsequently replaced by N Day as the rider of SPONGE BOB.

Stewards accepted trainer S Kendrick's explanation for late notification of rider for SPONGE BOB.

SPACE COWBOY jumped away awkwardly.

Stewards questioned N Day regarding his riding of SPONGE BOB from inside the 500m. N Day stated that shortly after entering the straight he elected to improve to the outside of the heels of RUBY LACE in an endeavour to search for a run wider on the track. After viewing the patrol films, N Day admitted that in hindsight it would have been a better option to remain on the fence as clear running presented itself in the straight. Stewards noted this explanation.

Stablehand, Mr J Davies, was reprimanded by stewards for his standard of attire in the saddling enclosure.

RACE 8: GRAHAM & JOSIE MOCKRIDGE MEMORIAL H'CAP - 1200M.

DOOLALLY blundered at the start and shifted out crowding LEGEND MATERIAL and ANTARES on to SKIMBLESHANKS.

M Gray, the rider of LEGEND MATERIAL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DOOLALLY which resulted in that horse striking the running rail and having to be checked. M Gray was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on 7 October 2002 and expire at midnight on 19 October 2002.

Leaving the 800m SEMAGIC had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HUMAN NATURE which shifted in. K BELL the rider of HUMAN NATURE was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.

Rounding the home turn SKIMBLESHANKS was held up for clear running.

Shortly after entering the straight SKIMBLESHANKS shifted out around the heels of JAILHOUSE ROCK and in doing so crowded SEMAGIC on to CROWNSTAD which resulted in both runners becoming unbalanced. D Hayse the rider of SKIMBLESHANKS was cautioned and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into App. S McLean's riding out of JAILHOUSE ROCK over the concluding stages.

ON HIS OWN was a late withdrawal, at 1.08 p.m., by order of the stewards as no responsible person was in attendance with the horse.

A post-race veterinary examination of BURGEE revealed that the horse was lame in the off foreleg.

RACE 2: OPEN HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

BLAZING KALA was withdrawn by order of the stewards at 1.35 p.m. as no responsible person was in attendance with the horse.

THE TANK was slow to get into stride and then on straightening was hampered slightly when racing tight between TENERANI and INIGO STORM.

RACE 3: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

SECRET WATCH reared as the gates opened and lost ground.

GENERAL SALIERI was slow to get into stride.

RACE 4: MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1000 METRES

Prior to the start I'M CHARMED became fractious, reared over and dislodged its rider, M. Young. The mare was examined by the club veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. M. Young was not injured in the incident.

When the start was effected I'M CHARMED reared and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained an injury to its wither. Trainer Mr N. Balaam informed stewards that I'M CHARMED will now be retired from racing.

BALBRIDIE, which was having its first race start, was slow to get into stride.

RACE 5: CLASS 6 PLATE - 1000 METRES

The start was delayed as WILCROW and TUDOR JAMES proved difficult to load into the barriers.

On the turn near the 700 metres LA BEBE hung out slightly and hampered MISS KUMAGI, which was racing to its outside.

RACE 6: BOWEN CUP, CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1810 METRES

NEXT IN LINE, SWELL BOY and NORTHERN INDIES were slow to get into stride.

Trainer G. Hughes was fined $50 under the terms of LR.70.

GENERAL:

An inquiry will be opened, at a time and date to be fixed, into the training operations of Mr M. Crouch, the structure of responsibility at his establishment and the riding engagements for his horses at today's meeting.

RACE 1: BILLY DANN MEMORIAL E&G MAIDEN HCP 1200M.

The start was delayed, as RIDE THE SEAS needed a replacement tongue-tie prior to race. RIDE THE SEAS was also vetted and past fit to run after making contact with the enclosure fence.

Both MAGIC HAT and NAZGUUL were slow to begin.

RIDE THE SEAS jumped out at the start hampering MAGIC HAT and making heavy contact with RECORD BREAKER.

NAZGUUL, which was racing greenly, hung out making the first turn hampering NOBLE DISTINCTION.

Approaching the 650m, P Moodie allowed his mount DAY PASS, to shift in causing NAZGUUL to ease and make contact with MAGIC HAT. RECORD BREAKER, which was following was also forced to ease in this incident. Taking into account the greenness of the horses involved a reprimand was issued to P Moodie.

Jockey D Green (SEGURA) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in over the concluding stages hampering both TOXOPHILITE and STAR HEART.

RACE 2: BOB GREAVES MEMORIAL 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP

FRENCH CHARIOT dislodged the rider in the enclosure and at the start prior to being loaded, pulled away and completed half a circuit of the track. Stewards declared the filly a late scratching at 4:34pm. (25/1)

CLEAR THE AIR, which was fractious in the barriers reared and got casted in the barrier and was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advise at 4:38pm (25/1) deductions were ordered for both scratchings of 6c win and 8c place.

Both FRENCH CHARIOT and CLEAR THE AIR were ordered to officially barrier trial prior to next start.

BELLE AMAZON and OUR KAWLIJA were both slow to begin.

BELLE AMAZON shifted in shortly after the start hampering MANZALA

BELLE AMAZON was held up for clear running from 600m until entering the straight.

OUR KAWLIJA, which raced greenly throughout shifted in over the concluding stages hampering CLEVERNESS.

RACE 3: O'NEILL SCOTT & ASSOCIATES CLASS 2 HANDICAP

PINK PONTIAC was slow to begin.

PARALO jumped in at the start making contact with PINK PONTIAC.

PARALO rolled in making the home turn hampering ROWDY BOY.

RACE 4: LJ HOOKER TOOWOOMBA CLASS 5 HANDICAP

LEICA NARROW reared as the gates opened loosing ground.

BANYULA BRAVE and DIGRESS made contact on a number of occasions rounding the home turn as DIGRESS was attempting to get off the fence which hampered DIGRESS.

RACE 5: THE CHRONICLE CLASS 3 HANDICAP

BACHELOR GIRL was declared a late scratching 6:20pm by the order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice after the horse became unbalanced in the parade ring. Connections were advised a veterinary certificate is required prior to next start. Deductions of 7c win 9c place were ordered. (12/1).

SAGIT HERO shifted out at the start and was slowly into stride.

In attempting to change hands with the whip, G Lynch the rider of SAGIT HERO (NZ) accidentally dropped the reign leaving the 1100m however was able to regather them at the 1000m.

RACE 6: SOUTHERN CROSS FORD CLASS 1 HANDICAP

Both ALTAREG and JUDICIAL REPORT were slow to begin.

TIMEO shifted out at the start and in doing so forced out GOLD AMBER, which made heavy contact with DO AS I SAY. The rider of GOLD AMBER (N Evans) was almost dislodged in this incident.

Approaching the 1200m, JUDICIAL REPORT began racing ungenerously and lost considerable ground when placed in restricted room to the inside of MY CHALLENGE.

RACE 7: MURDOCH LAWYERS F&M MAIDEN HANDICAP

PRINCESS IN PERSON was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice after the mare reared and flipped over twice on the way to the barrier. Deductions were ordered of 4c a win and 5c a place (20/1). The connections were advised the mare must pass an official barrier trial prior to its next start.

BRONZE HULA refused to leave the barrier at the jump, after taking evidence and on viewing the film the Stewards declared the mare a starter. The connections were advised the mare must pass an official jumpout prior to its next start.

RUNS LIKE BUCK eased at the 800m when racing in restricted room to the inside of GO KATE and BLUE CHERUB.

As the start was effected GOLD JET (A Gillett) jumped inwards and made heavy contact with FIGHTERTOWN (W Orbell).
UPHOLD (App H Watanabe) made contact with RIVER OF STARS (J Piper) on more than one occasion soon after the start.
PRINCESS MAPPERLEY (S Quick) raced wide on the track from approximately the 800 metre mark.
PEPPERINA LANE (J Marks) raced greenly from the 1000 metre mark until straightening.

RACE 2: 3YO CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1200 METRES (11 STARTERS)

As the start was effected VIVENDI (K Pope) jumped inwards and made heavy contact with ABBA LEA (J Stephens) who in turn shifted inwards and made contact with IRGUN COWBOY (N Evans).
At the 1000 metre mark LAURISTAN (App T Mathieson) began to hang out and at approximately the 900 metre mark, shifted outwards abruptly which resulted in both IRIANA STAR (D Simmons) and BOLTON ROSE (J Piper) being taken wide on the track.
Stewards severely admonished Jockey Nathan Evans, the rider of IRGUN COWBOY for allowing his mount to drift out over the concluding stages of the event and hamper the running of ABBA LEA (J Stephens) and then to further shift out and hamper the running of BOLTON ROSE (J Piper).
DEENA NEDIYM (M Unwin) was hampered at approximately the 100 metre mark.

RACE 3: CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1300 METRES (16 STARTERS)

HULA REBEL (M Evans) over-raced in the early stages of the event.

RACE 4: CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1100 METRES (14 STARTERS)

GILLETTE (J Piper) was kicked behind the barriers by another runner. The horse was inspected by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to take its rightful place with the field.
SNAIL GARY (S Watkin) was reluctant to settle in the early stages of the event.
SNAIL GARY (S Watkin) and BLUE AZZETTA (W Orbell) both laid in over the concluding stages of the event.
Jockey D Lloyd the rider of EYE CATCHING was charged with a breach of AR118A for adding gear after weighing out. Subsequently Jockey Lloyd was found guilty and fined the sum of $100.

RACE 5: CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1100 METRES (13 STARTERS)

As the start was effected WITH CAUSE (G Evans) jumped outwards and hampered the running of MOORABOOL FLYER (App L Timson).
Jockey D Lloyd, the rider of TALE OF TRIOMPHE was advised to show more care in the future after allowing his mount to shift out at approximately the 450 metre mark which resulted in LIGHTHOUSE ROAD (App K Cunningham) being taken outwards and inconveniencing PRECIFIC (S Quick).

RACE 6: OPEN H'CAP - 1200 METRES (16 STARTERS)

CAPTAIN SCUTTLE (W Orbell) jumped away awkwardly as the start was effected.
JAZZAD (N Evans) struck the running rail heavily at the 500 metre mark.

RACE 7: CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1600 METRES (15 STARTERS)

As Jockey D Lloyd was indisposed Stewards permitted Jockey N Evans to be the replacement rider for RAPID CITY.
SEAT OF KNOWLEDGE was a late scratching at 3.10pm by order of the Stewards acting on Veterinary advice after the horse was injured on the way to the track.
APPLEBY (J Piper) jumped away awkwardly as the start was effected.
STEFAMA (A Lane) and ACQUIRE (S Watkin) was reluctant to settle in the early stages of the event.

SISTER OF NED was withdrawn at 1.30pm when the horse refused to enter the barriers. The trainer of SISTER OF NED Mr R. Stephens was instructed by Stewards the horse must pass a jump out before starting again. Deductions of (5/1) 16c of a win and 18c for a place on all bets on SISTER OF NED be refunded when correct weight was announced.

BUCK'S PEARL was slow into stride.

FAIRLY HUMBLE was unable to hold its position between CRAIGLEA WAY and PERSONELL at the 450 metre mark.

RACE 2: CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1090M

IN A TRANCE jumped awkwardly making heavy contact with DAPPER STAR.

Shortly after the start IN A TRANCE has taken DAPPER STAR in onto FLASH MIST which resulted in DAPPER STAR losing ground. Jockey P. Lindeberg was instructed to exercise care in future.

Jockey P. Lindeberg was obliged to stop riding his mount with the whip when it began to shift ground at the 100 metre mark.

RACE 3: MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1212M

ODYSSEY JACK jumped awkwardly taking RESERVE THE MAGIC in onto RED HALI.

RAVENOUS MAKTIG and MY BELLABONNA dwelt at the start.

RED HALI eased at the 900 metre mark when it got onto the heels of NICKY'S GEM.

RESERVE THE MAGIC shifted ground at the 150 metre mark.

The winner RAVENOUS MAKTIG was swabbed.

RACE 4: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1380M

IMPRESSIVE STYLE began to lose ground at the 450 metre mark and finished a distant last and was inspected by the club vet who reported the horse was lame in the near fore. The trainer of IMPRESSIVE STYLE Mr. W. Bailey was instructed he must obtain a vet certificate before the horse can start again.

Stewards accepted trainer's representative Mrs S. Bell's reason for her failure to declare B. Calkin as the rider of TRAVELLING FUN by the prescribed time.

CLOWNING ABOUT and CLASSY PRINCE were slow to begin.

On jumping away, KARMA QUEST shifted out and made contact with DON'T WORRY, which then shifted out, making contact with PADDY'S PROMISE.

Rounding the 600m. turn, PADDY'S PROMISE hung out, forcing EAT 'N' RUN extremely wide on the track. Trainer G. Loader was advised that PADDY'S PROMISE would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

After passing the 600m., PRINCE FLAMENCO raced up on to the heels of PAMELA and shifted in abruptly, resulting in KARMA QUEST having to be steadied.

RACE 3: LIQUOR KING/UNION SHOPPER H'CAP - 1200M.

MAGIC WAYS jumped away awkwardly.

S. Shield, rider of TELE SERIES, was fined $50 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight.

RACE 4: HAHN PREMIUM/LIQUOR KING H'CAP - 1100M.

Prior to the announcement of correct weight, jockey G. Farrer advised stewards that he believed he had been denied a fair start on MELINITE. After viewing the film, stewards found that MELINITE'S barrier gates may have been marginally slow to open, however they were of the opinion that this did not materially affect the finishing position of the mare.

MANDA PANDA was slow to begin.

G. Farrer, rider of MELINITE, pleaded guilty to a charge under 135(b) and (c), in that inside the final 250m. when racing at the rear of the field, he failed to make any effort to improve his position when an opportunity presented itself to the inside of COL'S INVESTMENT, and further that he displayed a lack of vigour in his riding out of the mare for the remainder of the race. G. Farrer was suspended from riding in races for a period of 4 weeks, to commence at midnight, 7 October, and to expire at midnight, 4 November 2002.

A post-race veterinary examination of COL'S INVESTMENT failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 5: GREAT WESTERN H'CAP - 1400M.

G. Colless, rider of MANICURED, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in near the 950m. when insufficiently clear of DANATINA, which in turn was taken in on to PADDY'S VENTURE, resulting in DANATINA having to be checked to avoid the heels of MANICURED. G. Colless was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings.

G. Colless also pleaded guilty to a further charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 700m. when not clear of PADDY'S VENTURE, which was forced in on to CAWDOR KIM, which had to be checked. G. Colless was suspended from riding in races for a further period covered by 10 meetings, such penalty to be served concurrently with the 8 meeting suspension incurred earlier in this race, and to commence at midnight, 7 October, and to expire at midnight, 23 October 2002.

Approaching the 600m., LEFT AT THE ALTAR shifted out and made contact with WIRRADILLA.

Near the 400m., CAWDOR KIM had to be checked to avoid the heels of BLIND PATIENCE, which shifted in and away from the heels of NIGELLA.

RACE 6: XXXX LIQUOR KING H'CAP - 1400M.

No incidents.

RACE 7: XXXX BITTER H'CAP - 1400M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Katsidis, rider of the equal first placegetter, BOSPORUS, against MADIBA being declare the equal first placegetter, alleging interference over the final 50m.. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the films, stewards found that over the concluding stages MADIBA shifted out under pressure, resulting in BOSPORUS being impeded in the run to the finish line. In the circumstances, stewards upheld the objection and the Judge's placings were amended to read: No. 2 - BOSPORUS - 1st; No. 4 - MADIBA - 2nd; No. 7 - TOUCH OF LARCENY - 3rd.

TOUCH OF LARCENY jumped away awkwardly, then threw its head in the air shortly after the start, losing considerable ground.

MAGIC GOLD and DAINTREE DAN made contact on jumping away.

Near the 500m., CHOMOLUNGMA had to be steadied off the heels of BOSPORUS.

RACE 8: GOLD H'CAP - 1400M.

The starting time of this race was amended to 5.12 p.m..

STAR AHOY and MILLCAY were both slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, SUGAR SHAKER shifted out, inconveniencing both TAMARENA and JENNOAK.

After passing the 900m, MILLCAY had to be steadied off the heels of STYLISH AMBER.

Rounding the home turn, STYLISH AMBER shifted out to improve, taking RECEIVED, JHANSI KI RANI and CAWDOR SUNSET wider on the track.

As the start was effected EBONY CRYSTAL (W Orbell) jumped away awkwardly. Both ALPHA REGAL (J Stephens) and PASS WITH HONOURS (NZ) (S Quick) were slow into stride.

RACE 2: CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1100 METRES (13 STARTERS)

Trainer Alan Jenkinson was fined the sum of $25 under the terms of AR140A in that he presented DECORAIGH to the saddling enclosure with the incorrect gear.
As the gates opened ADVISING (W Binder) jumped away awkwardly and laid in during the early stages of the event.

RACE 3: F&M CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1300 METRES (11 STARTERS)

BROWN EAGLE (K Pope) was momentarily inconvenienced rounding the home turn.

RACE 4: MAIDEN H'CAP - 1400 METRES (7 STARTERS)

HADRID was a late scratching at 12.35pm by order of the Stewards acting on Veterinary advice.
At approximately the 900 metre mark LIMERICK LASS (A Gillett) became inconvenienced when racing in restricted room to the inside of GO GIRL (D Whitmore).
IMPERIAL LANDING (K Pope) raced ungenerously in the early to middle stages of the event.

RACE 5: OPEN H'CAP - 1600 METRES (16 STARTERS)

CAPTAIN SMOOTH was a late scratching at the barriers when the horse was reluctant to load and then when loaded became extremely fractious. Trainer Bill Trimble was advised that the horse was now barred until such time as it successfully passes an official barrier trial.
Prior the declaration of Correct Weight Stewards declared that deductions be made at the rate of 3 cents in the dollar for the win portion and 3 cents in the dollar for the place portion of the bets.
Jockey D Simmons received an injury in this incident and was given first-aid initially by the club Ambulance Officials and advised to seek further medical attention.
As the start was effected MY KING (M Barnham) knuckled when leaving the barriers. At approximately the 950 metre mark CHINA CONSUL (A Lane) was steadied after receiving pressure BOYARIN (NZ) (W Orbell) who in turn received pressure from LAURINEL IMPULSE (App D Johnston). Stewards reprimanded Apprentice Johnston and advised him to show more care in the future.

RACE 6: CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1400 METRES (15 STARTERS)

As Jockey D Simmons was indisposed Stewards permitted Jockey W Orbell to be the replacement rider for TAMBO ROAD in this event.
WESTERN PLEASURE (J Stephens) was inconvenienced over the concluding stages of the race when POKER (J Marks) shifted outwards under hard riding. Stewards advised Jockey J Marks to show more care in the future.
Stewards also charged Jockey J Marks with a breach of LR49 in that he left the course with permission. Subsequently Jockey J Marks was fined the sum of $50.

BOOKMAKERS - Nine (9) Bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.

RACE 1: STAYERS' SERIES H'CAP - 2150M.

BROTHER LEO jumped with its head in the air.

Rounding the first turn BROTHER LEO got its head up when eased off the heels of TRAIT. OAKEY JEWEL, which was following, had to be eased and shifted out, taking SPLENDID DEBUT wider on the track.

Near the 900m., SPLENDID DEBUT had to be eased off the heels of CLASSIC INDEED.

RACE 2: CONGRATULATIONS BRISBANE LIONS H'CAP - 1510M.

NIX 'N' KNOTS and MILATTA made contact on jumping away.

Leaving the 1200m., CERAUNO was momentarily hampered when racing between BEECIES GOLD and NOBLE CASTE, which shifted in.

LUSKIN'S RISING was caught 4 wide rounding the first turn and was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.

OUR PROUD HOPE was held up rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight.

I TOLD YOU hung out rounding the home turn, taking DANE BROGUE wider on the track.

Approaching the 200m., I TOLD YOU was momentarily hampered when CERAUNO shifted out to improve. LUSKIN'S RISING, which was trailing, had to be checked and shifted out abruptly in this incident.

Leaving the 200m., BEECIES GOLD shifted out to improve and made slight contact with I TOLD YOU. J. Stanley, rider of I TOLD YOU, reported that his mount overreacted and shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of DANE BROGUE.

J. Stanley also reported that the off blinker shifted to the off side during the race, which may have had an effect on the horse's vision.

On return to scale, NOBLE CASTE was found to have sustained a laceration to the near foreleg.

RACE 3: WARWICK RSL PUNTERS H'CAP - 1200M.

After travelling a short distance, COUNT TARSHO commenced to buck and continued to buck for some distance, dislodging its rider, J. Stanley. The connections of COUNT TARSHO were advised that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily before being permitted to race again. The club's doctor examined J. Stanley and reported that he had sustained bruising and was suffering from a headache and was not fit to take his remaining rides at the meeting. K. Pope was substituted as the rider of SHATRI MAGIC in race 5.

Approaching the 200m., BECKWORTH had to be eased when EMERALD DANE shifted out to improve.

Nearing the finishing line, PARTRIDGE shifted in under pressure and inconvenienced AGITATOR.

RACE 4: WARWICK RSL MEMBERS H'CAP - 1010M.

FASHION JEWELS and SAMS ADVICE were slow to begin.

GO ON NOW GO jumped outwards at the start and brushed CHICKEN LITTLE.

Shortly after the start, MIKEY'S RUBY raced greenly and shifted out, making contact with RHYTHMIC SPEAR, causing that horse to become unbalanced and shift out on to the hind quarters of YAKEEMA DANCER.

Near the 800m., FLYING DEVIL and GO ON NO GO made heavy contact, resulting in both horses becoming momentarily unbalanced. Both horses raced in restricted room for some distance after this incident, and near the 700m. had to be checked when racing to the inside of CHICKEN LITTLE, MIKEY'S RUBY and SAMS ADVICE. After hearing evidence from the riders, stewards were of the view that whilst FLYING DEVIL may have shifted out slightly, making contact with GO ON NO GO and contributing to the incident, G. Colless, rider of CHICKEN LITTLE, was nonetheless cautioned for permitting his mount to shift in away from MIKEY'S RUBY.

RACE 5: WARWICK RSL STAFF H'CAP - 1010M.

FOREIGN TOUCH and RON'S XENA were tightened for room at the start between MIRROR and DEVONPORT when both horses shifted ground.

Near the 800m., FOREIGN TOUCH had to be steadied momentarily off the heels of SUERAY, which shifted in.

Apprentice S. Aizawa, rider of DEVONPORT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 700m. he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RON'S XENA, resulting i RON'S XENA having to be checked. S. Aizawa was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 5 October, and to expire at midnight, 13 October 2002.

At the 50m. SUERAY shifted in and brushed MIRROR.

RACE 6: WARWICK RSL MANAGERS H'CAP - 1100M.

SINISIN, which refused to load, was declared ineligible to race until it passes a barrier test on at least 2 occasions. Following the late withdrawal of SINISIN at 4.42 p.m., all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded in full, with deductions made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act - i.e. 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.

BLACK PILL and HOT PROMISE were slow to begin.

Near the finish line, LITTLE KARIOI and BLACK PILL were tightened for room between OODLES 'N' BOODLES and DANCING HILL as a result of both horses shifting ground.

RACE 7: WARWICK RSL H'CAP - 1200M.

As C. Spry was to be overweight, M. Rodd was substituted as the rider of ALL NATIVE. At a subsequent inquiry, C. Spry was found guilty of being overweight and failing to fulfil his engagement. After taking into account C. Spry's poor record in relation to being overweight, his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 5 October 2002 and to expire at midnight, 12 October 2002.

VIRGO'S HORIZON was slow begin.

VIRGO'S HORIZON, which bled during the event, will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

RACE 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1000 METRES

On jumping STOLEN SILVER shifted in abruptly.

When questioned about the improved performance of the winner, STOLEN SILVER, compared to its sixth placing when beaten 16 lengths at Winton on 28th September 2002, trainer Mr T. Tassone explained that the filly failed to handle the heavy condition of the dirt track at Winton and was more suited by the firmer surface at Hughenden. He added that the horse had good previous form up to 1000 metres and was not suited by the 1200 metres distance of the Winton event. Mr Tassone undertook not to start STOLEN SILVER at Winton or over distances further than 1000 metres at this stage of the horse's preparation. The explanation was noted.

RACE 3: CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1000 METRES

Mr A. Harrison, trainer of MONDRIAN, was reprimanded for presenting the gelding without blinkers, part of its approved gear (LR.82).

There were no racing incidents.

RACE 4: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

GOODBYE CHIEF was slow to begin.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by P. Cullen, the rider of GOODBYE CHIEF which finished second, against EMERALD CITY (R. Seymour) being declared the winner, alleging interference approaching the 250 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved and considering their own observations, stewards found that though EMERALD CITY may have marginally crowded GOODBYE CHIEF at the 250 metres, GOODBYE CHIEF lost little, if any, ground as a result of the incident. Accordingly, the protest was dismissed and the placings ordered to stand.

RACE 5: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

There were no racing incidents.

RACE 6: WEIGHT-FOR-AGE - 1100 METRES

At the start ARGOLD threw its head in the air and lost ground.

Jockey R. Seymour (SPLASH O' CASH) was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out right to the end of the race (AR.137(b)).

Trainer N Flouskos was fined the sum of $50 for failing to submit a stable return taking the barrier blanket off EUROMBAH.

Apprentice Z Purton was fined the sum of $100 for failing to supply a letter of authority from his Master.

As J Pollard was to be overweight he was replaced on BURGUNDY BELLE (Race 1) by K Pope and on RAYMONDS REWARD (Race 2) by C Reith. Jockey J Pollard was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

RACE 1: JOHN R TURK ELECTRICAL SUPPLIERS HANDICAP - 1400M.

As jockey S Katsidis was late to arrive on course by the prescribed time and as no senior rider was available he was replaced on CINAMAN by apprentice Cameron Brown. S Katsidis was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

MAGICAL MADDIE which broke through the barriers prior to the event was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.

JACKMOR was slow to begin.

After jumping away awkwardly MAGICAL MADDIE shifted in hampering BERI STAR CRAZY and JACKMOR.

STOLL MOSS shifted out shortly after the start and made contact with CINAMAN.

Rounding the 800 metres turn BERI STAR CRAZY which was inclined to over race, improved up on to the heels of CINAMAN and had to be steadied.

Jockey G Baker rider of JACKMOR reported that the gelding was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure which necessitated him changing the whip to his right hand.

RACE 2: LANDSBOROUGH HOTEL HANDICAP - 1000M.

GISTTOP jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

On jumping away TRISTAMORY was tightened for room between CHIEF BRAVEHEART and ROSS WILLIAM which was taken out by KAYLIBB.

A short distance after the start TRIM THE HUMOUR attempted to buck and was retired from the event. Trainer Liam Birchley's representative was advised the gelding must pass an official trial prior to its next race start.

A post race Veterinary examination of MYOBB STAR revealed the gelding had pulled up shin sore in the near foreleg.

A post race Veterinary examination of ROSS WILLIAM revealed the gelding had sustained severe lacerations to the left fore tendons.

Following the running of Race 2 jockey S Shield was stood down by the Club Doctor and was replaced on RED CHIP (Race 6) by K Pope and on DREAM TRAP (Race 8) by C Reith.

RACE 3: TREVOR MILLER RACING STABLES HANDICAP - 1200M.

Rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight FRAMEWORTHY was held up and unable to improve.

SPANKSTER was held up for clear running rounding the home turn until near the 200 metres.

RACE 4: ALLROAD SURFACES HANDICAP - 1000M.

PAROLE TIME jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Near the 700 metres PAROLE TIME shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

ZEDALITY was forced to race wide for the major part of the event.

RACE 5: BRISBANE LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT HANDICAP - 1200M.

COTTON BRAE was slow to begin.

DANEHILL QUEEN shifted out on jumping away and made contact with DANERIN.

Leaving the 1100 metres QUEENSBURY ROAD and TUNGMAHAL were crowded for room between MANU which was taken out by MILITARY PRINCESS and DANERIN which shifted in when being restrained and made heavy contact with TUNGMAHAL. OUR LOOSE CANNON which was following had to be steadied off the heels of TUNGMAHAL.

Near the 700 metres QUEENSBURY ROAD which commenced to over race, improved up on to the heels of MANU and shifted out taking TUNGMAHAL wider on the track.

OUR LOOSE CANNON which suffered a bleeding attack during the event will now incur a mandatory three month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from OUR LOOSE CANNON.

RACE 6: CASTLEMAINE PERKINS HANDICAP - 1000M.

TOP FAITH was slow to begin.

CAMBRAD jumped away awkwardly.

SPY KING was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

RACE 7: SUNCOAST CHIROPRACTIC CENTRE HANDICAP - 1600M.

Trainer Alec Banks was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for RICHESSE by the required time.

Due to transport difficulties jockey G Lynch was unable to fulfil his engagement on RICHESSE and was replaced by D Tanti.

RACE 8: MARY HENZELL REAL ESTATE HANDICAP - 1600M.

As Matthew Bennett was indisposed he was replaced on ZEMUS by G Duffy.

DEBBIE'S PRIDE was slow to begin.

When the pace slackened near the 1200 metres DEBBIE'S PRIDE had to be steadied off the heels of BELLE PAREZ. As a result TATHRA ROAD shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of DEBBIE'S PRIDE.

After passing the 1200 metres NOISY KINGDOM shifted in and struck the running rail and had to be steadied when tightened for room by ROAD TO SEA. Jockey K Pope rider of ROAD TO SEA was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

SEA SIOUX and BILLY CART HILL were both forced to race wide throughout the event.
