AlcopopAlcopop shot to prominence following his victory in last year’s Listed JRA Cup (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

The same race this year will be used to restore his once lofty reputation.

Alcopop has struggled in four starts – two in Sydney and two in Adelaide - since starting favourite and finishing sixth in last year’s Melbourne Cup (3200m).

Saturday’s disappointing ninth placing of 12 starters in the $80,000 Listed Tokyo City Cup (1600m) at Morphettville has seen Alcopop’s price balloon out in pre-post markets to $41 for the Caulfield Cup and $61 for the Melbourne Cup with TAB Sportsbet.

"He seems OK (on Sunday) and, so long as there aren't any problems, we'll push on to the JRA Cup,” Stephens told The Advertiser.

“From there, all things going well, I might even try and get another run in him before the Caulfield Cup.”

Stephens however stressed that should he discover something amiss with Alcopop that he would have no hesitation in terminating his spring preparation.

Rebel Raider only beat one runner home in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington last Saturday week with his performance put down to his first experience on a heavy track.

Macdonald, who trains in Adelaide in partnership with his son-in-law Andrew Gluyas, said he was not initially concerned and it was all systems go for this week's Underwood Stakes.

"He pulled up a bit short after Flemington and there was a little swelling which we treated," he said.

"But Andrew rang me from Melbourne yesterday and said he wasn't right so we X-rayed him and that's when the injury showed up.

"We don't when or where it happened.

"He's back home in Adelaide now. He's fine and happy within himself otherwise."

It was a bitter blow for Macdonald and the owners of Rebel Raider, coming just days after the anniversary of his withdrawal from last year's Cup.

Rebel RaiderRebel RaiderHe recovered from last year's injury with the aid of surgery and a lot of work on the water-walker and had a short autumn campaign to keep him fit.

He announced he was ready to take on the best again with a brilliant win over 1200 metres in the Spring Stakes at Morphettville on August 14 to once again jump into calculations for the Melbourne Cup.

His 20 starts have netted six wins from 1200 to 2500 metres and four placings with his earnings topping $1.4 million.

Rebel Raider had been around the $21 mark to win this year's Melbourne Cup.

Bob's ShoutTalented four-year-old Bob’s Shout will enjoy a brief let-up following his modest showing in the weight-for-age $80,000 Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks last Saturday.

Finishing tenth of 12 starters, Bob’s Shout raced three wide with no cover the entire trip in fourth position and consequently faded in the final furlong to finish over seven lengths from Spacecraft.

However trainer Roslyn Day reports the progressive son of Tayasu Tsuyoshi had more excuses.

“He has actually pulled up with a bit of a virus, so I don’t know where we will go with him,” Day told the Virtual Formguide.

“With that in mind the run in the Penny Edition wasn’t too bad.

“We’ll have to give him a bit of time to recoup.”

After finishing third in the Fulham Park Plate (1000m), the first two-year-old race of the season in Adelaide, Bob’s Shout finished sixth in the Blue Diamond Preview for colts and geldings behind Reward For Effort.

Breaking his maiden status in a three-year-old handicap in July at Morphettville, Bob’s Shout finished second in a 0-86 Handicap (1600m) three weeks later prior to his Penny Edition start.

Boasting a record of a win and five placings from eight starts, Bob’s Shout has won $55,410 in prizemoney.

Maestro Of MuranoMeanwhile, stablemate Maestro Of Murano is unlikely to progress towards the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup.

Day nominated the son of Bianconi for both Flemington and Morphettville Parks this Saturday earlier in the week but failed to accept for either venue.

“We’ve had a little bit of a setback with him so I’m not sure on the cups at this stage.”

“We’re probably a bit too far behind the eight ball,” she conceded with her galloper handicapped on the minimum for both events.

Maestro Of Murano has won five times from 15 starts with four of those wins registered at Morphettville between 1800 metres and 2600 metres. He has accumulated $84,190 in prizemoney.
