RACE 1 – SHAW MINING MDN PLT (3YO&UP SW) – 1220 METRES

ROSEVALE ABBY (Trainer D Randall) was shown incorrectly in the book as racing with pacifiers, when in fact the horse does not.  An announcement was made to this effect prior to the event.

As the start was affected SPRINGFIELD ROSE (J Geard (a)) slipped behind and was a little slow to begin.

PAGE THREE (T Atkin) and WHISKEY WOMAN (B McCoull) were both a little slow into stride.

Shortly after the start BEAR RUN (J Nevin) shifted out, resulting in SAVOUR ME (S Hamer (a)) being carried a little wider on the track.

Racing towards the 500 metres BEAR RUN (J Nevin) raced greenly.

Jockey J Nevin (BEAR RUN) was found guilty under AR 137 (a) careless riding, in that at approximately the 150 metres he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards carrying BLUE TAMBO LADY (S Maskiell) in onto PORT ZERO (NZ) (D Pires) resulting in that horse having to be checked by its rider.   Stewards suspended Jockey Nevin’s licence to ride in races for a period of 2 race meetings in Tasmania to commence at midnight 12 June until midnight 26 June 2005.

A post race Veterinary examination of SPRINGFIELD ROSE (Trainer L Watling) revealed a minor laceration to the inside heel of the off foreleg.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race SAVOUR ME (Trainer B Campbell).

 

The track was downgraded to HEAVY at 11.35am. Pacifiers were ordered to be taken off all runners.

 

RACE 2 – CASCADE DRAUGHT 2YO SUPERVOBIS HANDICAP – 1220 METRES

 

Jockey P Michaelides was fined $50 under AR 120 (b) for being overweight, when he was unable to make the allotted weight on LUTES.

 

The start of this race was delayed for 3 minutes when QUI LASSIE (S Brazil) proved difficult to load into the barrier stalls.  Stewards advised Trainer W McShane that a warning has been placed on this filly’s barrier manners.

 

LUTES (R Bradley) was fractious in the barriers and on jumping was unable to muster early speed.

 

As the start was affected IRON CLAUSE (S Maskiell) jumped outwards and bumped with BOBBIE BOY (B McCoull).  Shortly thereafter IRON CLAUSE shifted back in, resulting in ESTEREL (S Hamer (a)) being buffet between IRON CLAUSE and PRINCESS DANCER (K Dodge).

 

Approaching the 800 metres PRINCESS DANCER (K Dodge), which got its head up commenced to race ungenerously, and shifted in and away from ESTEREL (S Hamer (a)).  Shortly thereafter Jockey K Dodge (PRINCESS DANCER) had to ease his mount when ESTEREL (S Hamer (a)) rolled in marginally.  Stewards issued Apprentice S Hamer with a reprimand under AR 137 (a) in that he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of other runners.

 

Apprentice S Hamer (ESTEREL) reported at scale that his girth strap broke in running.

 

A post race Veterinary examination of LUTES (Trainer D Ray-Luttrell) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

 

A post race Veterinary examination of GOONDIWINDI MOON (Trainer R Carr) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

 

RACE 3 – SHAW CIVIL CONTRACTING MAIDEN PLATE (3YO&UP SW) – 1620 METRES

Shortly after the start PINTERRY GROSVE (L Goodrick) jumped out making contact with LADY BRACKENBURY (J Cameron) who in turn bumped ISANDULA (D Pires).

At approximately the 1200 metres PINTERRY GROSVE (L Goodrick) and ISANDULA (D Pires) bumped on several occasions.

ALAMAS (P Michaelides) hung out in the middle stages of the event.

At the 400 metres NIGHT FIGHTER (B McCoull) shifted out to improve, resulting in ISANDULA (D Pires) having to steady off that gelding’s heels.

Leaving the 200 metres ALAMAS (P Michaelides) shifted ground outwards under pressure and brushed with MISS WIGGLES (S Maskiell).

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race NIGHT FIGHTER (Trainer W J Green).

 

A post race veterinary inspection of WOEWODIN (Trainer L Wells) revealed that this gelding had bled from both nostrils.  Trainer Leon Wells was advised of the provisions of AR 53A that WOEWODIN must not be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two (2) months and it may not start in any race for a period of three (3) months effective 12 June 2005 where after WOEWODIN is to satisfactorily trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

RACE 4 – F & W STEWART CLASS 1 HANDICAP (DIV 1)  – 1400 METRES 

Jockey D Parish was not shown in the race book as the rider of STARBIZ.  Stewards spoke to Trainer T Blacker, noted his explanation and fined him $25 under LR 34 (c) for late declaration of rider.

 

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when Jockey R Bradley wished to view the official film in view of lodging a protest.  After viewing the film Jockey Bradley did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared.

BIONIC BOY (J Cameron) stood flat footed and missed the start 4 – 5 lengths.

 

At approximately the 200 metres KATE’S FELLOW (J Nevin) shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip.

 

Trainer P Quarrell pleaded guilty and was fined $250 under AR 140 A for negligence, in that she presented BIONIC BOY in the incorrect saddlecloth number in the mounting yard for this event.

 

A post race Veterinary examination of STORMIN’ FEVER (Trainer G McCulloch) revealed this mare pulled up with an excessively high heart and respiratory rates.  Trainer McCulloch was advised that a Veterinary certificate be provided prior to this mare’s next official trial or race start.

 

A post race Veterinary examination of AZURE MELODY (Trainer C Goggin) revealed this mare pulled up with an excessively high heart and respiratory rates.  Trainer Goggin was advised that a Veterinary certificate be provided prior to this mare’s next official trial or race start.

 

A swab sample was taken from the winner STARBIZ (Trainer T Blacker).

RACE 5 – SHAW CONTRACTING CLASS 1 HANDICAP (DIV 2)– 1400 METRES 

MARELLI (Trainer T Blacker) was not shown in the race book as wearing blinkers when in fact the gelding does race in blinkers.  An announcement was made to this effect prior to the event.

 

The start of this race was delayed for 3 minutes when KANCHANABURI (J Cameron) proved difficult to load into the barrier stalls.  Stewards advised Trainer G White that a warning has been placed on this filly’s barrier manners.

 

NOTHIN’ LEICA TOY (S Brazil) and KANCHANABURI (J Cameron) were both a little slow into stride.

 

A post race Veterinary examination of SUNJOY (Trainer B Dalco) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

 

A swab sample was taken from the winner KANCHANABURI (Trainer G White).

RACE 6 – SHAW LAND DEVELOPMENT FILLIES & MARES CL 2 HCP– 1220 METRES 

SHE’S WICKED (K Dodge) was a little slow into stride.

 

Approaching the 900 metres SQUIMAT (C Kingston) got its head in the air and commenced to over raced for a short distance.

 

Rounding the turn at the 900 metres FILL LIFE WITH JOY (G Hodges (a)) shifted out abruptly carrying SHE’S WICKED (K Dodge) wider on the track.

 

A post race Veterinary examination of LIZZILIZZAR (Trainer B Dalco) revealed the mare to have scalped the off hind coronet in running.

RACE 7 – SHAW CONTRACTING HANDICAP  – ABOUT 2100 METRES 

As the start was affected CRYSTAL QUI (K Dodge) jumped out and ALWAYS SLICK (C Kingston) jumped in, resulting in PERSONAL DRUM (NZ) (G Hodges (a)) being hampered.

 

Leaving the straight on the first occasion at approximately the 1700 metres PARIS RHYME (L Goodrick) and CRYSTAL QUI (K Dodge) brushed.

 

On returning to scale L Goodrick (PARIS RHYME) reported her mount over raced throughout the event.

 

A post race Veterinary examination of CRYSTAL QUI (Trainer W McShane) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 8 – SHAW TRANSPORT CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1620 METRES 

As the start was affected LYMINGTON (J Geard (a)) jumped inwards and FLORIAN (D Pires) jumped outwards, resulting in MORSONIQUE (K Dodge) who was slow to begin, being crowded for racing room.

 

SIR RODGER (C Kingston) was slow to begin.

 

RACE 9 – SHAW HEAVY PLANT HIRE CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1220 METRES

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when Jockey B McCoull wished to view the official film in view of lodging a protest.  After viewing the film Jockey B McCoull was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

ENCOSTA NOVA (C Kingston) was slow to muster early speed.

Approaching the 800 metres HERITAGE PORT (B McCoull) was tightened for racing room when RACER’S PLUME (T Atkin) shifted out and CELTIC FLING (S Hamer (a)) shifted in.

Rounding the home turn ALL ON BLACK (S Maskiell) who was improving inside of RACER’S PLUME (T Atkin) shifted out marginally and bumped with that mare, who in turn shifted out and contacted the shoulders of HERITAGE PORT (B McCoull).  At the same time, CELTIC FLING (S Hamer (a)) who was racing to the outside of HERITAGE PORT shifted in marginally resulting in HERITAGE PORT being inconvenienced.

Over the concluding stages CORDOVA (NZ) layed in and brushed with HERITAGE PORT (B McCoull)

A swab sample was taken from the winner CORDOVA (NZ) (Trainer I Lloyd).

MIMOSA WILLOW (T Atkin) laid in in the home straight.

A post-race veterinary inspection of ALVA (Trainer Paul Jones) revealed the gelding had bitten its tongue during the race, which accounted for the blood in its mouth following its return to the mounting yard.

RACE 2 – HI-LITE PLASTER MAIDEN / CLASS 1 PLATE – 1600 METRES 3YO & UPWARDS  -  SET WEIGHTS  -  1600 METRES

BILL’S REWARD (D Pires) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

OUR BOY GEORGE (K Moore) and NIMIRUM (C Kingston) were both slow into stride 

OUR BOY GEORGE (K Moore) began to over-race leaving the 1400 metres and shifted ground inwards at the 1200 metres resulting in NIMIRUM (C Kingston) being inconvenienced.

SAFE HAVEN (K Bandy) was inconvenienced at about the 200 metres when US INDIAN GIVERS (J Cameron) shifted in.  Shortly thereafter US INDIAN GIVERS was carried in on to SAFE HAVEN by HIDDEN FACE (M Luttrell (a)) who shifted inwards abruptly.  Apprentice M Luttrell was shown the video and advised that he must exercise more care when shifting ground in the future.

A post-race veterinary inspection of NIMIRUM (Trainer Gary White) revealed the gelding had bitten its tongue during the race, which accounted for the blood in its mouth following its return to the mounting yard.

A swab sample was taken of the winner of the race MUSTELLA (Trainer John Blacker).

RACE 3 – JMK CONSTRUCTION MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 METRES

Apprentice Jockey S Hamer was fined $25 under AR-175(k) negligence in that he presented himself in the mounting yard in the incorrect colours.

The connections of LEX LOCI (Trainer Royston Carr) requested that Apprentice B Bamford not carry his whip for his ride on the mare today.

AFFAIR DE JOUR (Jockey J Nevin - Trainer Jason Clifford)) was a late scratching at 1.17 pm by order of Stewards after the gelding reared on several occasions and was unable to be loaded into its barrier stall.  Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on AFFAIR DE JOUR to be refunded in full.  All bets made prior to 1.17 pm to be paid less ten cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and ten cents in the dollar on the face value of the place ticket.  AFFAIR DE JOUR must trial prior to its next race start.

BELLE DA MOUR (P Michaelides) was slow into stride.

AUTUMNI (S Brazil) threw its head in the air shortly after the start.

Near the 700 metres, SQUAIR (A Keating (a)) shifted ground outwards resulting in BELLE DA MOUR (P Michaelides) being carried wider and having to be eased off that filly’s heels.

A post-race veterinary inspection of KANCHANABURI (Trainer Gary White) revealed the filly had bitten its tongue during the race, which accounted for the blood in its mouth following its return to the mounting yard.

RACE 4 – HYDRO TASMANIA 2YO SUPERVOBIS HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

FRIAR FRANK (P Michaelides) reared in the barriers prior to the start.

SUPER CLAUSE (T Atkin) and FAIRY NICE (J Geard A) were both slow into stride.

MY MISSY ROSE (R Bradley) was unable to muster early speed.

On the home turn, RISK IT (B Bamford (a)) was hampered when IRON CLAUS (S Maskiell) shifted out to obtain a clear run.  As a result RISK IT (B Bamford (a)) bumped with LOUGHMOE CASTLE (B McCoull). 

At about the 300 metres, JEAN LOUISE (D Pires) shifted in abruptly.  As a result ZUBENELGENUBI (S Hamer (a)) was inconvenienced and carried inwards.

FRIAR FRANK (P Michaelides) was held up in the home straight before shifting wider to obtain a clear run and was inclined to lay in thereafter.

Over the concluding stages, MAMA MIRA (K Dodge) had to be steadied by its rider when FRIAR FRANK (P Michaelides) shifted ground outwards.

A post-race veterinary inspection of JEAN LOUISE (Trainer John Luttrell) revealed the filly to be lame in its off fore leg.  Trainer John Luttrell was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be tendered before JEAN LOUISE’s next race start.

RACE 5 – FRANK HILL ROOFING CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

PERFECT VISTA (D Parish) was checked and bumped with RUSSKI (P Michaelides) who was racing to its inside shortly after the start when PENTIME (D Pires) who was racing to its outside, shifted ground inwards away from SCENIC ROK (S Maskiell).

At about the 400 metres RUSSKI (P Michaelides) carried SCENIC ROK (S Maskiell) wide on the track.  As a result ROMANTIC STORM (J Geard (a)) who was following was momentarily hampered.

A post-race veterinary inspection of PENTIME (Trainer Terry Roles) revealed the gelding had bitten its tongue during the race, which accounted for the blood in its mouth following its return to the mounting yard.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MINN (Trainer Jack Green) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race MY TALLULAH (Trainer Charlie Goggin).

RACE 6 –   ROTARY CLUB OF GLENORCHY HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

MATICHELLO (D Parish) stood flat-footed at the start and lost approximately ten lengths. 

Jockey B McCoull reported on return to scale that A DREAMER slipped on jumping.  A post-race veterinary inspection of A DREAMER failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary inspection of WILLCANNIA (Trainer Catherine Jordan) revealed the gelding to be lame in its near foreleg.   Trainer Jordan was advised that WILLCANNIA will require a veterinary inspection before its next race start.

RACE 7 –  BELLS CONSTRUCTION & TECHNOLOGIES CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000 METRES

Stewards granted permission for Jockey L Goodrick (LIGHT RANK) to ride the gelding one kilogram over its allotted weight in this race.

BUMPS IN THE NIGHT (K Bandy) was unable to muster early speed.  Jockey Bandy reported at scale that the mare felt sore behind.  A post-race veterinary inspection of BUMPS IN THE NIGHT revealed the mare to be sore/stiff behind.  Trainer Graeme McCulloch was advised that BUMPS IN THE NIGHT must undergo a veterinary inspection before its next race start.

A post-race veterinary inspection of UNTIL SUNDOWN (Trainer Ray Worbey) revealed the gelding to be slightly sore/lame in the near foreleg.  Trainer Worbey was advised that UNTIL SUNDOWN must undergo a veterinary inspection before its next race start.

A post-race veterinary inspection of LIGHT RANK (Trainer Leon Wells) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 8 – BARNEY REARDON DEMOLITION CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Apprentice B Bamford (AXEZEWANG) allowed his mount to shift ground outwards on a number of occasions in the home straight and was advised that he should have more control over his mounts when attempting to use his whip.

A post-race veterinary inspection of GOLD BREEZE revealed the mare to be sore/stiff behind.  Trainer Neil Richardson was advised that GOLD BREEZE must undergo a veterinary inspection before its next race start.

RACE 1 – LADIES IN RACING MAIDEN PLATE (4YO & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS) - 1200 METRES

Stewards granted permission for the rider of LEX LOCI (B Bamford (a)) not to carry a whip.  A public announcement was made to this effect prior to the start of the race.

At the start, HERMEKA (B McCoull) jumped inwards and bumped with LA BALLERINA GIRL (K Boxall (a)).

NIGHT FIGHTER (P Michaelides) was unable to muster early speed.

Apprentice K Boxall  (LA BALLERINA GIRL) was severely reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding in that she allowed her mount to shift ground in when insufficiently clear of EASY CHARLIE (J Cameron).  As a result EASY CHARLIE was inconvenienced and lost ground and JUST REMEMBER (D Pires) was hampered.  In not taking more severe action, Stewards took into account that just prior to the incident, JUST REMEMBER had shifted ground outwards and made contact with EASY CHARLIE, which may have been a contributing factor.  Both Jockey Pires and Jockey Cameron were advised that they must refrain from shifting ground, which results in contact with other runners.

COOL INFLATION (S Maskiell) was held up for a run approaching the home turn.

A post-race veterinary inspection of EASY CHARLIE (Trainer Tommy Young) revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg.  The Club’s veterinary surgeon also reported that EASY CHARLIE had a suspected pelvic injury.  Trainer Tommy Young was advised that he must tender a veterinary certificate before EASY CHARLIE’s next race start.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race HERMEKA (Trainer David Brunton).

RACE 2 –  FISH FRENZY CLASS 2 HANDICAP -  1400 METRES

BIONIC BOY (D Pires), GOLD MINT (D Oakford) and LAKE DOUGLAS (S Maskiell) were all a little slow into stride.

A post-race veterinary inspection of SWAMP BREEZE (Trainer Allan Stubbs) revealed the mare to be slightly non-weight bearing with its off-hind leg.  Trainer Allan Stubbs was advised that he must tender a veterinary certificate before the mare’s next race start. 

RACE 3 – GOODVIEW 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 METRES

BELLE DA MOUR (D Oakford) bucked on the way to the barriers, dislodging Jockey Daniel Oakford.  The filly was subsequently scratched at 1.32 pm by order of Stewards.  Trainer Charles Pirotta was advised that BELLE DA MOUR must trial to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing.  Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on BELLE DA MOUR to be refunded in full.  All bets made prior to 1.32 pm to be paid less sixteen cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and fourteen cents in the dollar on the value of the place ticket.

REDOUTE’S STAR (P Michaelides) was inconvenienced at the start when MUI’S PRIDE (S Maskiell) jumped in and FANTA’S RETURN (K Bandy) jumped outwards.

REGALETTE (K Boxall (a)) was held up at approximately the 200 metres and had to shift ground outwards to obtain a clear run.

Apprentice K Boxall (REGALETTE) reported at scale that she was disappointed for a run prior to entering the home straight.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race MUI’S PRIDE (Trainer Gary White).

RACE 4 – T42  -  2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 METRES

Stewards granted permission for TED’S MEMORY (Trainer John Luttrell) to race with a bit-lifter as part of its gear.  A public announcement was made to this effect prior to the start of the race.

The Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected FUTURE QUEST prior to the start of the race and passed the filly fit to take its place with the field.

MAPLE AVENUE (R Bradley) proved very difficult to load, kicking out on several occasions.  Trainer Gary White was advised that the filly must trial to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to next racing.

FUTURE QUEST (J Cameron), ANOTHER COLLECTOR (J Geard (a)) and MAPLE AVENUE (R Bradley) were all a little slow into stride.

FUTURE QUEST (J Cameron) over-raced and hung out in the back straight.

At approximately the 500 metres, FUTURE QUEST (J Cameron), which was racing ungenerously, was inconvenienced and lost its position when JEAN LOUISE (D Pires) laid in.  As a result of FUTURE QUEST losing ground, TED’S MEMORY (D Oakford), which was following, was also momentarily inconvenienced.

FAIRY NICE (S Hamer A) laid in in the home straight.

RACE 5 –  ANDREW WRIGHT AUCTIONEERS & VALUERS HANDICAP – 2400 METRES

IRISH GREY (B McCoull) was fractious in the barriers and as a result missed the start fractionally.

SWEETWATER RIVER (K Boxall (a)) laid in over the concluding stages.  As a result Apprentice Boxall had to stop riding and straighten her mount.

A post-race veterinary inspection of IRISH GREY (Trainer Royston Carr) revealed the gelding to have blood in its mouth. 

RACE 6 –  WAKEFUL CLUB CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

WHISPERING WARRIOR (Trainer John Luttrell) was late arriving on course after the truck transporting the gelding to the race track, broke down. 

SIR RODGER (K Boxhall (a)) and WHISPERING WARRIOR (D Oakford) were both a little slow into stride.

STATHMORE LUCK (K Dodge) over-raced in the early and middle stages.

UMBRIAN STAR (S Brazil) hung out from the 800 metres.  A post-race veterinary inspection of UMBRIAN STAR failed to reveal any abnormalities.

NICANOVA (S Maskiell) over-raced in the early stages and as a result Jockey Maskiell, after being caught wide, elected to go forward.

Jockey D Pires (TRANSCEND) reported on return to scale that he was unable to ride his horse in his normal manner due to it being caught wide and as a result he elected to go back.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter, DEAR FRIEND (Trainer Charlie Goggin).

RACE 7 – SORELL GATEWAY SHOPPING CENTRE FILLIES & MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Trainer Charlie Goggin was fined $50 under AR 140A negligence, for presenting UPPER DECK in the mounting yard with blinkers when in fact the mare races without blinkers.

STORMIN’ FEVER (K Dodge), DJUAN (J Cameron) and DESIGN ACADEMY (B McCoull) were slow into stride.

Near the 600 metres, STORMIN’ FEVER (K Dodge) was hampered when DJUAN (J Cameron) rolled out marginally.

RACE 8 –  TOTE TASMANIA CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES


The announcement of correct weight was delayed when the incorrect numbers were semaphored. 

As the start was affected, BACK AT TWO (C Kingston) jumped in and MILITIA (D Pires) jumped out, resulting in STARSQUI (D Oakford) being hampered and losing its position.

PAINTED RHIARI (K Boxall (a)) and OUR BOY GEORGE (S Hamer (a)) were slow into stride.

MINN (J Cameron) over-raced approaching the 600 metres.

AZURE MELODY (S Maskiell) was held up from the 600 metres until the home turn.

Approaching the 500 metres, MINN (J Cameron), which had a tendency to over-race, raced up on to the heels of MILITIA (D Pires) which rolled in marginally resulting in MINN having to be checked by its rider.

AZURE MELODY (S Maskiell) was momentarily inconvenienced when MILITIA (D Pires) which was hanging out, shifted in marginally.

BEAUCLOU (K Dodge) laid out in the run to the line.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MILITIA revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg.  Trainer John Luttrell was advised that a veterinary certificate is required before MILITIA’s next race start.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry in order to seek further information, into an incident prior to Race 2 at the Tasmanian Racing Club’s race meeting on Sunday 1 May 2005.  After taking evidence from Clerk of the Course, Mr Colin Eyles, in the presence of the Chairman of the TRC, Mr Geoff Harper and the Chief Executive Officer of the TRC, Mr Mike Wisby, it was established that Mr Eyles kicked KANCHANABURI on several occasions whilst the filly was being loaded into the barriers.

 Jockey S Maskiell (ELARDEEGEE) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 83 (a) for misconduct in that following the running of Race 4 returning to the mounting yard he used foul language before dismounting and kicking his horse in the stomach.  Jockey Maskiell was subsequently fined the sum of $750.00.

RACE 1 - RACEHORSE OF THE YEAR IN AUGUST 2Y MDN PLT (SW Div 1) – 1100 METRES

VILLA MARIA (B McCoull) was slow to muster early speed.

Stewards issued a reprimand to Apprentice S Hamer (ZUBENELGENUBI) under AR 137 (a) careless riding in that at approximately the 900 metres he allowed his mount to shift in resulting in COUNTESS JEAN (L Goodrick) being tightened and as a result PARLANTI (C Kingston) who was racing to the inside having to relinquish his position.  In not taking more severe action Stewards took into account the fact that the racing manners of COUNTESS JEAN had some bearing on the interference suffered.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race ESTEREL (Trainer J Blacker).

RACE 2 –TREVOR DAVENPORT 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (SW Div 2) – 1100 METRES

NEVER EMPTY (R Hanby) which hung in severely throughout the event shifted in abruptly at the 900 metres, resulting in LAC LA RONGE (S Maskiell) being checked and forced inwards.  As a result SOUTH REEF (S Snell), which was racing on the rail, was checked and lost its position.  Stewards advised Trainer W Curran that NEVER EMPTY was to be stood down to an official trial.  A post race Veterinary examination of NEVER EMPTY (Trainer W Curran) revealed this filly to be lame in the off fore leg.  A Veterinary certificate must be produced prior to this filly’s next official trial or race start.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race WALLIS (Trainer L Dalco).

A post race Veterinary examination of LAC LA RONGE (Trainer G White) revealed this gelding to be sore in the bilateral front.

A post race Veterinary examination of BLUE SQUIRREL (Trainer W McShane) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 3 – RETREAT HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE (3YO&UP SW) – 1220 METRES

ALAMAS (P Michaelides) was held up rounding the home.

Over the concluding wages DUCHESS OF MARL (G Hodges (a)) was held up for a clear run, as was FOUR WAYS (S Brazil).

Jockey J Borrett (WHISKEY WOMAN) was found guilty under AR 137 (a) for careless riding, in that approaching the 1000 metres she allowed her mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of NICOLISA (S Maskiell) as a result NICOLISA had to be checked, shifted ground inwards crowding the racing room of DUCHESS OF MARL (G Hodges (a) as well as LA BALLERINA GIRL (K Bandy) and HARVES (J Nevin) being crowded.  As a result of this, LA BALLERINA GIRL lost its position and appeared to clip the heels of HARVES.  Shortly thereafter MISS WIGGLES (B McCoull) shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider resulting in WHISKEY WOMAN (J Borrett) and HARVES both being crowded.  Stewards suspended Jockey Borrett’s licence to ride in races for a period of 2 race meetings in Tasmania to commence at midnight 29 May until midnight 12 June 2005.

Shortly thereafter MISS WIGGLES (B McCoull) shifted in abruptly away from JUST IN (J Cameron) which was racing to its inside resulting in WHISKEY WOMAN (J Borrett) and HARVES (J Nevin) being tightened for racing room.

Jockey C Kingston (LOUIE MARLANE) reported at scale that after being slow away the filly was inclined to hang out for the remainder of the race.

Upon return to scale WHIRL (S Snell) dislodged the rider and broke through the inside running rail and fell in the mounting yard.  Upon recapture, a post race Veterinary examination revealed this filly to have lacerations.  A Veterinary Certificate is required prior to this filly’s next official trial or race start.

Jockey S Maskiell (NICOLISA) was dislodged when this mare shied away from WHIRL (S Snell) breaking through the running rail.  Jockey S Maskiell was examined by the Ambulance Officers and stood down.  A post race Veterinary examination of NICOLISA (Trainer L Wells) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Stewards issued a reprimand to Jockey K Moore under AR 120 (b) for being overweight, in that he was unable to fulfill his riding engagement at the allotted weight.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race HARVES (Trainer L Wells).

A post race Veterinary examination of HARVES (Trainer L Wells) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post race Veterinary examination of LA BALLERINA GIRL (Trainer L Dalco) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 4 – SALEM CHAPEL MAIDEN PLATE (3YO&UP SW)  – 1620 METRES

DIPLOMATIC TERTIAN (S Snell) was slow away.

NIMIRUM (C Kingston) jumped outwards at the start.

As the start was affected WOEWODIN (J Nevin) attempted to rear and as a result was slow to begin.

At approximately the 1300 metres the saddle of WESLANDIA slipped forward when that gelding was over racing, this placed rider B McCoull at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

Approaching the 1100 metres DIPLOMATIC TERTIAN (S Snell) over raced.  As a result DUCHESS FONG (J Borrett) was momentarily inconvenienced when racing to its outside.

Approaching the home turn ALI QAHIRA (S Hamer (a)) rolled in, resulting in IPSISSIMUS (K Dodge) being crowded for room.  Apprentice Hamer will be advised of his obligations when shifting ground in future.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race DIPLOMATIC TERTIAN (Trainer A Stubbs).

RACE 5 – R L BOB GRINHAM CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

MARTINA ANNE (S Snell) stumbled on jumping.

Jockey Goodrick reported at scale that SUPERIOR CHEVAL slipped on jumping.

Jockey Kingston reported at scale that BACK AT TWO slipped behind at the start.

MARELLI (B McCoull) was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn.  Upon entering the straight brushed with MARTINA ANNE (S Snell) and was again held up from the 100 metres to the finish line.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race SUPERIOR CHEVAL (Trainer W Pilgrim).

RACE 6 – REMOUNT CLASS 4 HANDICAP– 1220 METRES

Jockey S Snell (BAZZA GOLD) was fined $25 under AR 175 (k) $25 for incorrect colours.

WEST WILL QUEST was a late scratching at 9.10 am after this gelding was found to be injured when being loaded onto the float. Trainer D Brunton was advised that he must produce a Veterinary certificate prior to this gelding’s next official trial or race start.

AROMA ROYALE (T Atkin) jumped the crossing at the 800 metres.

RACE 7 – MAX BAKER HANDICAP  – 1220 METRES

STORM YACHT (B McCoull) over raced near the 800 metres.

RACE 8 – VERMONT MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE  (SW) – ABOUT 2100 METRES

NOTHING LEICA TOY (C Kingston) jumped awkwardly and as a result the rider became unbalanced and lost ground.

Jockey K Dodge reported at scale that EL BARRINGTON over raced in the early and middle stages.

Rounding the home turn CZAR RULE (B McCoull) was momentarily inconvenienced when K Dodge (EL BARRINGTON) shifted wider on the track.

RACE 9 – PLEASANT CLASS 6 HANDICAP  – ABOUT 2100 METRES

STARRED (P Michaelides) proved difficult to load and was slow into stride.

Jockey L Goodrick (ANDRE THE GIANT) reported at scale that her mount was inclined to lay out throughout.

RATHMORE LUCK (S Snell) over raced in the early stages, Jockey Snell reported at scale that the gelding slipped rounding the turn and lost a near fore plate in running.

Approaching the 1700 metres NICANOVA (T Atkin) threw its head in the air, shifted ground outwards and as a result MORSONIQUE (S Hamer (a)) was forced wider on the track.

Approaching the 1650 metres NICANOVA (T Atkin) had to be checked off the heels of ALL GEARD UP (C Kingston).

RACE 1 – SHAW CONTRACTING MAIDEN PLATE (3YO&Up SW) – 1200 METRES

VAIN DISGUISE (J Kehoe) was momentarily inconvenienced after jumping when AGNELLI (B McCoull) shifted ground outwards and JUST IN (J Nevin) shifted ground in.

 

NIMIRUM (C Kingston) was slow into stride and was unable to muster any early speed.

VAIN DISGUISE (J Kehoe) jumped the crossing at the 800 metres and as a result shifted ground outwards carrying GRASJAR (K Bandy) out onto ALI QAHIRA (S Hamer (a) who was awkwardly placed onto the heels of DUCHESS FONG (J Borrett).  Apprentice Hamer (ALI QAHIRA) lost his left stirrup iron for a short distance at this stage and lost ground in consequence.

 

Near the 400 metres AGNELLI (B McCoull) shifted ground outwards and bumped with MISS WIGGLES (D Parish). 

 

In the home straight WESLANDIA (S Maskiell) laid in and as a result Jockey Maskiell had to stop riding and straighten his mount on several occasions.

RACE 2 –SOUTHERN CROSS 2YO SUPERVOBIS MAIDEN PLATE (SW) – 1100 METRES

 

GUM NUT FAIRY (M Luttrell (a) shifted ground outwards on the home turn.  Apprentice M Luttrell was advised to ensure he shows more control when allowing his mount to shift ground in future.

 

Stewards questioned Trainer Bill Ryan in regards to the improved performance of LOUGHMOE CASTLE (J Nevin).  Trainer Ryan stated he was of the opinion that the gelding may have been choking down in its last starts and he had added a tongue-tie to its gear.

 

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race LOUGHMOE CASTLE (Trainer B Ryan).

 

A post race veterinary examination of GUM NUT FAIRY (Trainer A Stubbs) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

 

RACE 3 – THE EXAMINER CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 2100 METRES

 

Trainer Jack Green was charged $25.00 for the use of Club colours on EXTENDER.

 

LAKE ST CLAIR (L Goodrick) was declared a late scratching at 1.14pm on veterinary advice. A pre race veterinary examination of LAKE ST CLAIR revealed this gelding had blood in the left nostril.  A veterinary certificate must be presented prior to this gelding’s next official trial or race start. All money on LAKE ST CLAIR to be refunded, all win and place bets to be paid on face value of ticket less 16 cents in the dollar for the win and 14 cents in the dollar for the place.

CHIEF CITATION (J Cameron) pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

 

Jockey C Kingston (CRYSTAL QUI) was reprimanded under AR 137 (a) for careless riding in that at approximately the 1950 metres he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards and inconvenienced MORSONIQUE (S Hamer (a) who was over racing.

 

Jockey B McCoull was found guilty under AR 120 (b) for failing to make the allotted weight on CHIEF CITATION and was subsequently fined the sum of $150.00.

BIONIC BOY (K Boxall (a) stood flat footed at the start and was very slow into stride.

On the home turn ELARDEEGEE (S Maskiell) had to be steadied by its rider when NOTHIN’ LEICA TOY (C Kingston) shifted ground outwards to obtain a clear run.

CALIOCHA (J Borrett) laid in at approximately the 150 metres and bumped with NOTHIN’ LEICA TOY (C Kingston) and at the finish line, shifted in abruptly and bumped again with NOTHIN’ LEICA TOY.

NIGHT FIGHTER (P Michaelides) and IPSISSIMUS (D Keating) bumped at the start.

NIMIRUM (C Kingston) was slow into stride and then over-raced in the early stages.

CHASE (S Maskiell) was slow into stride and was then caught wide rounding the 1200 metre turn before being ridden forward to take up a position near the lead. 

CHASE (S Maskiell) tired over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary inspection of CHASE revealed the gelding to be lame in its right foreleg.  Trainer Charlie Goggin was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness is required before CHASE’s next race start.

Jockey B McCoull reported on return to scale that DARK EMBRACE hung out throughout this event.  A post-race veterinary inspection of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Jockey L Goodrick (SPINDABELLE) reported on return to scale that the mare did not seem to stretch out in the home straight today.  A post-race veterinary inspection of SPINDABELLE revealed no abnormalities apart from tight muscles over the right shoulder/pectoral region.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race BILL’S REWARD (Trainer Royston Carr).

RACE 2 –  QANTAS & RACT WORLD MAIDEN PLATE 3YO & UPWARDS  - SET WEIGHTS  - 1200 METRES

The start of this race was delayed approximately three minutes when LEX LOCI (B Bamford (a)) dislodged its rider en route to the barriers.  The mare was recaptured after galloping back to the mounting yard.  The Clerk of the Course then lead LEX LOCI back to the barriers where the mare underwent a veterinary inspection before being passed fit to take its place with the field.  Apprentice Bamford was examined by the on-course ambulance officers and passed fit to fulfil his riding engagement in this event.

KANCHANABURI (S Maskiell) was slow into stride.

LEX LOCI (B Bamford (a)) laid in at the 600 metres and brushed with KANCHANABURI (S Maskiell). 

At approximately the 400 metres, GRAND EVENING (J Borrett) was inconvenienced when LEX LOCI (B Bamford (a)), laid in on to JUST REMEMBER (D Pires) who was in turn carried inwards.  Apprentice Bamford was advised that he must make a more concerted effort when his mounts begin to lay in in the future.

At approximately the 250 metres, LEX LOCI (B Bamford (a)) had to be steadied by its rider when MAGIC MAUD (J Geard (a)) shifted ground inwards and STRIKE THROUGH (J Cameron) shifted ground outwards.

BELLE DA MOUR (D Oakford) laid in in the home straight.

Apprentice Bamford reported that LEX LOCI wanted to lay in throughout this event.  A post‑race veterinary inspection of LEX LOCI failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities with the mare.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race RUSSKI (Trainer Chris Crook).

RACE 3 –ROSS FOURACRE 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1200 METRES

The start of this race was delayed when GOONDIWINDI MOON (D Keating) dislodged its rider en route to the barriers.  The gelding was recaptured after galloping back to the mounting yard.  The Clerk of the Course then lead GOONDIWINDI MOON back to the barriers where the gelding again dislodged its rider and galloped back to the mounting yard.   Jockey D Keating was examined by the on-course ambulance officers who declared him fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements today.  GOONDIWINDI MOON was declared a late scratching at 1.11 pm by order of Stewards.  Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on GOONDIWINDI MOON to be refunded in full.  All bets made prior to 1.11 pm To be paid less four cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and five cents in the dollar on the face value of the place ticket.  Trainer Royston Carr was advised that a warning has been placed on GOONDIWINDI MOON for its manners en route to the barriers.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed as Jockey D Parish (HELENS WALTZ), the rider of the fourth placegetter wished to view the official video patrol film.  After viewing the film, Jockey Parish advised that she wished to lodge a protest against MAMA MIRA (D Oakford) being declared the third placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference from the 600 metres onwards.  After considering evidence from all the parties concerned and viewing the official Stewards’ patrol films and acting on their own observations, the protest was upheld and the Judge’s placings were amended to:

At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey D Oakford pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137 (a) careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards on two occasions, firstly at approximately the 600 metres and again at approximately the 550 metres, when insufficiently clear of HELENS WALTZ (D Parish).  As a result HELENS WALTZ was inconvenienced and had to be checked by its rider.  Jockey Oakford’s licence to ride was suspended for two race meetings in Tasmania to commence at midnight tonight and to expire at midnight on 5 June 2005.

REGAL WEASEL (D Pires) was eased just after the start.

MISTER MATIC (P Michaelides) was tightened for racing room shortly after the start and then got its head up and over-raced.

MISTER MATIC (P Michaelides) and RISK IT (B Bamford (a)) raced greenly in the early stages.

Near the 1000 metres, IRON CLAUS (L Goodrick) shifted ground inwards and inconvenienced FAIRY NICE (M Luttrell (a)).

MISTER MATIC (P Michaelides) hung out rounding the home turn and was then taken wider by RISK IT (B Bamford (a)).

Stewards severely reprimanded Jockey K Bandy (KAMA’S WAY) under AR 137(a) for careless riding in that at approximately the 400 metres, he allowed his mount which was racing green to shift in when insufficiently clear of RISK IT (B Bamford (a)) resulting in RISK IT clipping the heels of KAMA’S WAY.  In not taking more severe action, Stewards took into account the greenness of KAMA’S WAY and also the fact that the filly was having her first start.

HELENS WALTZ (D Parish) raced greenly in the home straight.

Stewards reprimanded Jockey B McCoull under AR137 (a) careless riding as he had allowed his mount to shift ground inwards near the 100 metres when insufficiently clear of HELENS WALTZ (D Parish). 

A post-race veterinary inspection of KAMA’S WAY (Trainer David Brunton) failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MAMA MIRA (Trainer Peter Luttrell) revealed the filly to have blood in its mouth after bitting its lower lip during the race.

RACE 4 – CHEAPER FURNITURE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

BIONIC BOY (L Goodrick) stood flat-footed at the start and lost several lengths.

OUR BOY GEORGE (B Bamford (a)), STORMIN’ FEVER (K Bandy) and STARSQUI (D Oakford) were slow to muster early speed.

Near the 400 metres, PERFECT VISTA (D Parish) was momentarily held up behind the tiring STARSQUI (D Oakford).

At approximately the 200 metres, MANTLE TALK (D Pires) was momentarily hampered when LADATAC (B McCoull) shifted ground outwards.

Jockey D Oakford (STARSQUI) reported on return to scale that his saddle slipped forward near the 1000 metres, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

A post-race veterinary inspection of BIONIC BOY (Trainer Patricia Quarrel) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 5 – THORPE TRANSPORT 3YO CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

WEASEL WAV (D Pires) jumped in at the start and bumped with GOLD MINT (D Oakford).  GOLD MINT then threw its head in the air.

MR. WORBEY (D Parish) was slow into stride and tailed the field throughout.  A post-race veterinary inspection of MR WORBEY failed to reveal any abnormalities.

MAXLIN STAR (M Ball (a)) over-raced and hung out from the 800 metres until entering the home straight.

NO LAUGHING MATTER (L Goodrick) was held up momentarily rounding the 600 metre turn.

WEASEL WAV (D Pires) laid out throughout. 

MAXLIN STAR (M Ball (a)) shifted wider than necessary rounding the home turn.

A post race veterinary inspection of WEASEL WAV revealed the filly to be lame in the left foreleg.  Trainer John Luttrell was advised that he must tender a veterinary certificate of soundness before WEASEL WAV’s next race start.

RACE 6 –  WREST POINT HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

BOY BLUE (D Pires) laid in rounding the 600 metre turn.

Jockey B McCoull (BAY RITZ) reported at scale that he was adjusting the barrier blanket when the start was released but was in no way impeded or disadvantaged.

RACE 7 –  SOUTHCORP WINES CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

ALVA (M Ball (a)) resented the whip in the home straight.

RACE 8 –HOTEL GRAND CHANCELLOR CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

BEAUCLOU (B Bamford (a)) jumped out at the start and bumped with CHIEMSEE (D Pires).

Jockey D Pires (CHIEMSEE) was reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding in that approaching the 600 metres he allowed his mount to shift inwards as a result inconveniencing MY TALLULAH (M Ball (a)) which clipped CHIEMSEE’s heels.  In not taking more severe action Stewards took into consideration that CHIEMSEE had laid in away from DJUAN (C Kingston) during the incident.

GENERAL

Jockey D Oakford pleaded guilty under AR-87-B for not wearing a body protector at the Brighton Training Centre on Thursday, 19 May 2005.  Jockey Oakford was fined $250.

Race 2 – Qantas & RACT Travel World Maiden Plate

Trainer Charlie Goggin reported Monday 23 May that MOLLYO pulled up lame in the near fore and will undergo xrays during the week.  A veterinary certificate will be required prior to the filly’s next start.

Devonport Racing Club – 18 May 2005 – Race 7 Maritime Union Of Australia Handicap 1175 metres

Stewards reprimanded Jockey D Oakford (LITTLE PORKIES) under AR 135(b) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures in that after missing the start, he rode forward aggressively and challenged for the lead for 700 metres before dropping out on the home turn to finish a distant last.  In arriving at penalty, Stewards took into account that Jockey Oakford had followed the instructions of Trainer Mr G White but had shown a lack of initiative after his horse had missed the start.

RACE 1 –  CASCADE PREMIUM LIGHT MAIDEN PLATE (3YO & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS - 1600 METRES

CHANCES MAY (J Cameron) was a little slow into stride.

US INDIAN GIVERS (B McCoull) got its head in the air in the early stages and was inclined to over-race for a short distance.

On entering the home straight, PRINCE FLYER (K Boxall (a) shifted in and made contact with MISS QUICKSCORE (R Bradley).

At about the 200 metres, PRINCE FLYER (K Boxall (a) shifted out marginally as US INDIAN GIVERS (B McCoull) shifted in resulting in both these horses brushing for a number of strides.

US INDIAN GIVERS (B McCoull) shifted in under pressure over the last 100 metres.

RACE 2 – CASCADE DRAUGHT MAIDEN PLATE (3YO & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS - 1200 METRES

The start of this race was delayed approximately one minute due to the barrier manners of KANCHANABURI (S Maskiell)

At the start, NIMIRUM (D Pires) jumped outwards and made contact with IPSISSIMUS (J Nevin).

KANCHANABURI (S Maskiell) jumped inwards at the start and lost considerable ground.

When questioned, Jockey Kingston (YOULSEE) reported that when passing the 600 metres, he was obliged to steady his mount when it laid in away from STARSQUI (D Oakford) and was placed awkwardly on to the heels of JUST REMEMBER (P Michaelides).

Approaching the 500 metres, YOULSEE (C Kingston) when tiring, was obliged to steady his mount when inconvenienced by LEX LOCI (S Hamer (a) who was racing tight to his outside.

Shortly after entering the home straight, XAARLIGHT (B Bamford (a) began to tire and shifted out under pressure resulting in IPSISSIMUS (J Nevin) who was following, being obliged to ease wider on the track to obtain a clear run.

A post-race veterinary inspection of XAARLIGHT (Trainer Charlie Goggin) revealed the gelding to be sore in the near hind leg.  Trainer Goggin was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness is required before XAARLIGHT’s next race start.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race STARSQUI (Trainer Peter Daly).

RACE 3 – COUGAR BOURBON SUPERVOBIS (TAS) 3YO CLASS 6 HANDICAP1400 METRES

AZURE MELODY (S Maskiell) blundered upon jumping resulting in Jockey Maskiell becoming unbalanced.  AZURE MELODY lost considerable ground in consequence.

GOLD BREEZE (D Parish), upon jumping, blundered in the going.

When questioned, Jockey Maskiell (AZURE MELODY) reported that after blundering and being slow away, he elected to travel wide in the back straight.  He felt that from the 700 metres to the home turn, the mare was improving and at that stage, a chance in the race.  However, thereafter, AZURE MELODY failed to respond any further to his riding.  A post-race veterinary inspection of AZURE MELODY (Trainer Charlie Goggin) revealed the mare to have a slow recovery rate.  Stewards noted Jockey Maskiell’s explanation.  Stewards will be requesting that if Trainer Goggin finds anything amiss with the mare prior to its next race start, he should inform Stewards.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MANTLE TALK (Trainer Ray Worbey) revealed the gelding to have a minor laceration to the hock medially on the right hind leg.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race GOLD BREEZE (Trainer Neil Richardson).

RACE 5 – CASCADE CLASSIC (2YO – SET WEIGHTS - NO CLAIMS) – 1400 METRES

Stewards accepted Trainer Gary White’s explanation for the late declaration of Jockey R Bradley as the rider of OUR NEFERTITI.  A public announcement was made to this effect.

The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes when VILLA MARIA (J Borrett) had to be re-saddled behind the barriers. 

On jumping BE PREPARED (K Boxall (a) shifted ground outwards abruptly, inconveniencing CYGNET JET (P Michaelides). 

As the gates were released, OUR NEFERTITI (R Bradley) bounded in the air, losing a little ground.

In the early stages, CYGNET JET (P Michaelides) was inclined to hang in when racing wide.

Jockey J Cameron reported at scale that SISTER PHIL stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground.

Jockey D Pires reported at scale that REGAL WEASEL laid in during the running of this event.

When questioned, Jockey Kingston reported that, in his opinion, TIZ CANNY was at the end of her preparation and would now be spelled.  A post-race veterinary inspection of the filly revealed pain in its nearside fetlock on flexon.  No veterinary certificate is required.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race DARCENELL (Trainer David Miller).

RACE 6 – CORAL SEA HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

LITTLE PORKIES (NZ) (D Oakford) reared on jumping and was a little slow to begin.

At approximately the 1000 metres, PARIS RHYME (J Borrett) shifted out and made contact with FOLLOW THE BAND (B Bamford (a).

Apprentice M Ball reported at scale that PERSONAL PEAK reared at the start and as a result, lost ground.

Jockey B McCoull, the rider of BAY RITZ, reported that the gelding was inclined to baulk at the shadows on the track in the back straight.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race BAY RITZ (Trainer David Brunton).

RACE 7 –     BLACK DOUGLAS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

The race book failed to show PERFECT VISTA (Trainer Neil Richardson) as wearing blinkers.  A public announcement was made to this effect.

At the start, LYMINGTON (B McCoull) jumped out on to PRINCESS AVENGER (J Borrett) resulting in that mare being hampered.

GOLD MINT (D Oakford) and RADAR ROCKET (K Boxhall (a) brushed rounding the home turn.  Shortly after GOLD MINT shifted ground inwards to obtain a clear run away from the heels of ESTATE KING (R Bradley) and as a result GOLD MINT made contact with RADAR ROCKET.

A post-race veterinary inspection of WESTERN CHEER (Trainer Walter McShane) revealed that this mare had bled from both nostrils.  Trainer McShane was advised of the provisions of AR-53A that WESTERN CHEER must not be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two (2) months and it may not start in any race for a period of three (3) months effective 1 May 2005, whereafter WESTERN CHEER is to satisfactorily trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

A post-race blood sample was taken from the winner of the race MIMOSA WILLOW (Trainer Peter Geeves).

RACE 8 – SKYY BLUE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Acting on a confirmed phone call from Trainer Harriet Paul, LITTLELIONHART was a late scratching at 2.14 pm.  Stewards advised Trainer Paul that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required before LITTLELIONHART’s next race start.

RACE 5 – MUA HORSEHEAD CREEK 2YO SUPERVOBIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1175 METRES

Near the 1100 metres TAINUI KING (S Hamer (a)) shifted in marginally as MOSKOW MOSKOW (L Goodrick) shifted outwards resulting in SALCOMBE (S Brazil) being carried out and clipping the heels of TAINUI KING as a result jockey S Brazil was dislodged.

ROSEWOOD QUEST (S Snell) jumped outwards at the start carrying SHESADRAMAQUEEN (B McCoull), ARIA QUEST (D Pires), SOUTH REEF (S Maskiell), LAC LA RONGE (J Cameron) and COURT SPEEDING (J Borrett) wider.

Rounding the home turn MOSKOW MOSKOW (L Goodrick) compounded noticeably as a result SOUTH REEF (S Maskiell) was momentarily held up.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MOSKOW MOSKOW (trainer M Trinder) revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary inspection of SALCOMBE (trainer J Blacker) revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 6 -  LEN DIXON MAIDEN PLATE 1175 METRES

A pre-race veterinary inspection of PINTERRY GROSVE (trainer T Roles) revealed no abnormalities.

WHISKEY WOMAN (J Borrett) raced greenly throughout.

LOUIE MARLANE (D Pires) over raced in the early and middle stages of the event.

WHISKEY WOMAN (J Borrett) was inconvenienced at the crossing near the 200 metres when COOL INFLATION (S Hamer (a)) shifted ground outwards at the same time WHISKEY WOMAN shifted ground inwards.

WHISKEY WOMAN (J Borrett) was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.

NICOLISA (S Maskiell) was held up rounding the home turn.  Jockey S Maskiell reported that he was disappointed for a run on several occasions in the home straight.

A post race swab sample was taken from the winner MARTINA ANNE (trainer L Wells).

RACE 7 –     MARITIME UNION OF AUSTRALIA HANDICAP – 1175 METRES

LITTLE PORKIES (D Oakford) threw its head in the air at the start and stumbled shortly thereafter, before being ridden forward aggressively to obtain the lead and compounded noticeably over the concluding stages.

A post-race veterinary inspection of LITTLE PORKIES (trainer G White) revealed no abnormalities.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding tactics of Daniel Oakford (LITTLE PORKIES) specifically as to the reason why he rode forward and pressured PETER’S PICK a known front runner after he had missed the start.  After taking evidence from Daniel Oakford and Stable Foreman for Gary White, David Moore, Stewards adjourned the inquiry to seek further information and inquire further into the matter with Trainer Gary White.

RACE 1 – PEDROS THE RESTAURANT CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1800 METRES   

LIBERAL LOVER (K Boxall (a) jumped out and contacted the side of the barriers at the start.

MORSONIQUE (S Hamer (a) hung out rounding the home turn. Apprentice S Hamer stated that his mount might have shied at the barriers.

Apprentice S Hamer (MORSONIQUE) was reprimanded under AR137 (a) careless riding in that at approximately the 150 metres he allowed his mount to shift ground in and momentarily inconvenience WYRELL (S Maskiell).

Shortly there after WYRELL (S Maskiell) laid in onto the heels of LAKE ST CLAIR (L Goodrick) as a result Jockey S Maskiell (WYRELL) had to stop riding and straighten his mount

RACE 2 – SPREYTON VETERINARY SERVICES SUPERVOBIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE– 1175 METRES

LOUGHMOE CASTLE (J Nevin) dislodged its rider on route to the barriers.

COURT SPEEDIND (J Borrett) blundered at the start.

Jockey Shannon Brazil (GAVOTTE) was found guilty under AR137 (a) careless riding in that at approximately the 150 metres she allowed her mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of SOUTH REEF (S Maskiell) and as a result made heavy contact and bumped with the filly on several occasions before that filly contacted the running rail. S Brazil’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two Tasmanian race meetings, from midnight the 27th April 2005 till midnight the 4th May 2005.

K Bandy (ROSEWOOD QUEST) reported at the scales that the filly wanted to lay in throughout the event and showed no response when placed under pressure.

A post-race veterinary inspection of ROSEWOOD QUEST (Trainer G McCulloch) revealed a small ulcer on the lower lip at the seat of the bit.

A swab sample was taken from OFF TO WORK (Trainer W Pilgrim)

RACE 3 –RICHMOND CONCEPT & PRINT MAIDEN PLATE – 1175 METRES

 

DUCHESS SEDAKA (S Brazil) was a late scratching at 2:19pm by order of Stewards, when unable to be loaded into the barriers.  All money on DUCHESS SEDAKA to be refunded, and all win and place bets to be paid on face value of ticket less 3 cents in the dollar for the win and 4 cents in the dollar for the place. 

 

A pre-race veterinary inspection of ALAMAS (Trainer D Baldock) revealed a small amount of blood in the mouth, which was of nil significant.

COOL INFLATION (K Dodge) blundered on jumping before shifting out and bumping with ALAMAS (P Michaelides).

ANGEL’S EDGE (G Hodges) was slow into stride and thereafter failed to muster any early speed and tailed the field throughout.

ALAMAS (P Michaelides) hung out in the back straight.

NICOLISA (S Maskiell) laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DUCHESS SEDAKA (Trainer J Blacker) will be required to trial on two consecutive occasions to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

 

A post-race veterinary inspection of BOLD CHEVAL (Trainer W Pilgrim) revealed no abnormalities.

 

A post-race veterinary inspection of ANGEL’S EDGE (Trainer P Quarrell) revealed that this mare blew excessively and had a significant respiratory noise in its lungs. A veterinary certificate of soundness, particularly in regard to respiratory function, is required prior to this horse trialling or racing.

 

RACE 4 – ATKINSON GIBSON MAIDEN PLATE – 1600 METRES

WOEWODIN (K Boxall) (a) reared at the start.

QUESTINO (K Bandy) stood flat-footed and was very slow into stride.

HELLIUS (D Pires) and SHARE PRICE (K Moore) bumped at the start.

Jockey K Moore (SHARE PRICE) was reprimanded under AR 137 (a) careless riding in that racing out of the straight at approximately the 1400 metres, he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards and as a result DIPLOMATIC TERTIAN (J Nevin) was momentarily inconvenienced.

At approximately the 1100 metres SHARE PRICE (K Moore) had to be steadied by its rider when MR TERTIAN (J Geard (a), which was over racing, was steadied by its rider.

COOL ADDICTION (L Goodrick), which was over racing, bumped with LADY BRACKENBURY (K Bandy) near the 1100 metres.

Near the 900 metres WOEWODIN (K Boxall (a) began to race fierce and take charge of Apprentice K Boxall.

At the same time EL BARRINGTON (K Dodge) began to over race and had to be steadied.  As a result WOEWODIN (K Boxall) shifted ground outwards bumping with SHARE PRICE (K Moore).

Rounding the 600 metres WOEWODIN (K Boxall (a), which was still racing fiercely, shifted ground outwards carrying COOL ADDICTION (L Goodrick) wider on the track.

COOL ADDICTION (L Goodrick) was held up rounding the home turn.

A swab sample was taken from ELARDEEGEE (Trainer L Wells).

Stewards deferred an inquiry until a date to be fixed, into why QUESTINO (K Bandy) had to be checked by its rider.

 

RACE 5 – TOLL TASMANIA HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

 

ALWAYS SLICK (C Kingston) laid in racing out of the straight on the first occasion.

 

LIGHT SQUALL (S Hamer (a) was held up rounding the home turn.

 

LIGHT SQUALL (S Hamer (a) and TRANSCEND (D Pries) laid in on the home straight.

 

A swab sample was taken from ALWAYS SLICK (Trainer P Jones).

 

RACE 6 – ST ALLEGUS JEWELLERS CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1175 METRES

LEANAMAREE (K Boxall) (a) and HAIL THE GANG (J Cameron) were slow into stride.

CELTIC COMET (L Goodrick) laid in on the home straight.

RACE 7 – SOUTHERN CROSS TELEVISION CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1380 METRES

The start was delayed when CHRONOMETER (S Hamer) (a) cast a near hind plate. After the plate was reattached CHRONOMETER under went a pre race veterinary examination before being passed fit.

STORMIN’ FEVER (K Bandy) was slow into stride.

NOTHIN’ LEICA TOY (T Atkin) was slow into stride and unable to muster early speed.

At approximately the 900 metres and 700 metres SUPER SCAY (B McCoull), which was over racing, shifted wider on the track and carried PIRATE’S SERENE (K Dodge) wider.

On the home turn HILLS OF HOME (S Maskiell) had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of STORMIN’ FEVER (K Bandy), which had shifted in marginally

Stewards questioned Jockey S Maskiell (HILLS OF HOME) in regards to the apparent disappointing performance of his mount.  Jockey S Maskiell stated that after being caught wide in the early stages he elected to restrain, and then when asking his mount to improve on the home turn he was inconvenienced. Jockey S Maskiell further stated that he elected to cut back to the rail on the home turn as it was his belief that the going was better on the rail, but the gelding failed to respond and improve its position.

A post-race veterinary inspection of HILL OF HOME (Trainer G Blacker) revealed no abnormalities. 

A post-race veterinary inspection of SUPER SCAY (Trainer J Blacker) revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 2 – OTIS ELEVATOR COMPANY 2YO SUPERVOBIS (TAS) MDN – 1100 METRES

STOCKER STREET (S Maskiell) bumped with WALLIS (K Boxall (a)) on several occasions at approximately the 500 metres, when STOCKER STREET attempted to move wider on the track to improve its position.  Rounding the home turn STOCKER STREET was momentarily inconvenienced when WALLIS momentarily layed in and ALLMIGHTYPRINCESS (B McCoull) hung out.

RACE 3 – SOUTHERN CROSS CARE (TAS) MAIDEN PLATE (DIV 1) – 1200 METRES

AGNELLI (K Boxall (a)) jumped out at the start bumping with AMETHA (S Maskiell) who in turn bumped with MUI’S PRIDE (R Bradley).

Stewards issued a reprimand to Apprentice Michael Luttrell under AR 120 (b) for being overweight, in that he was unable to fulfill his riding engagement on GUM NUT FAIRY at the allotted weight and was subsequently replaced by Apprentice K Boxall.

SISTER PHIL (J Cameron) dislodged the rider during the preliminary.  SISTER PHIL was subsequently examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.  Jockey Cameron was examined by the Ambulance officers and also found able to ride.

LOUGHMOE CASTLE (J Nevin) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start 

CYGNET JET (P Michaelides) and SISTER PHIL (J Cameron) were both slow into stride.

SISTER PHIL (J Cameron), which was over racing, appeared to blunder and shortly thereafter jumped the crossing near the 800 metres.

OFF TO WORK (L Goodrick) laid out in the home straight as a result WALLIS (B McCoull) had to shift out on several occasions to avoid that geldings heels.

Stewards questioned Jockey Ruth Bradley on the disappointing performance of MY MISSY ROSE.  Jockey Bradley stated that the filly failed to respond when placed under pressure at the 500 metres and the fact that the filly had not started for a month may have also had an affect.  A subsequent post race Veterinary examination of MY MISSY ROSE (Trainer D Brazendale) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post race Veterinary examination of WALLIS (Trainer L Dalco) revealed the horse returned to scale with blood in its mouth from a cut tongue.

A post race Veterinary examination of ZUBENELGENUBI (Trainer B Campbell) revealed the horse had sustained minor abrasions to the near hind leg.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race OFF TO WORK (Trainer W Pilgrim).

RACE 2 –RACEHORSE OF THE YEAR IN AUGUST MAIDEN PLATE (3YO&UP SW) – 1200 METRES

FOURWAYS (S Brazil) was slow to begin.

As the start was affected ALITTLE HAZY (K Dodge) jumped out and carried WESLANDIA (S Maskiell) out onto MISS WIGGLES (B McCoull) resulting in MISS WIGGLES clipping the heels of WESTLANDIALEX LOCI (B Bamford (a)) who was to the outside of MISS WIGGLES was also inconvenienced and lost ground. 

Jockey K Dodge (ALITTLE HAZY) was found guilty under AR 137 (a) careless riding, in that at approximately the 900 metres he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of BEAR RUN (J Kehoe) resulting in BEAR RUN being inconvenienced and being placed awkwardly onto heels and appearing to clip the heels of ALITTLE HAZY (K Dodge).  Stewards suspended Jockey Dodge’s licence to ride in races for a period of 2 race meetings in Tasmania to commence at midnight 15 May until midnight 22 May 2005.

Shortly thereafter, BEAR RUN (J Kehoe), which began to race fiercely, shifted ground outwards and bumped heavily on several occasions with BLUE TAMBO LADY (K Boxall (a)).

James Nevin (KATE’S FELLOW) accidentally dropped his whip on the home turn.

Apprentice Brad Bamford reported that he was inconvenienced after the start and that the horse blundered on numerous occasions during the event.   Trainer R Carr reported that the mare’s form, which reads inconsistently, can be attributed to the track conditions as the mare likes softer tracks and she may have jarred up on the harder track.  Stewards advised Trainer Carr that if he were to find anything amiss with the mare during the week he is to report it immediately.  A post race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post race Veterinary examination of LEX LOCI (Trainer R Carr) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 3 – W (BILL) DUNSTONE MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

SHOWER OF RUBIES (J Borrett) and SUNJOY (K Boxall (a)) were both slow to begin.

MARELLI (S Maskiell) was disappointed for a run near the 100 metres when DREWONEE (R Hanby) shifted ground inwards.  Jockey Hanby was reminded of her obligations to ensure she takes greater care when her mount shifts ground in future.

RACE 4 – CASCADE DRAUGHT CLASS 2 HANDICAP  – 1600 METRES

LAKE DOUGLAS (S Maskiell) stumbled at the start.

BAZZA GOLD (S Hamer (a)) over raced in the early and middle stages and had to be steadied off the heels of CRYSTAL QUI (B Bamford (a)) at the 1300 metres.

MOXOON (K Boxall (a)) was held up rounding the home turn and had to be steadied shortly thereafter when BAZZA GOLD (S Hamer (a)) laid in.

RACE 5 – SUES OF INVERMAY MAIDEN / CLASS 1 PLATE (SW) – 1600 METRES

Apprentice Kasey Boxall (ELARDEEGEE) lost her offside iron shortly after the start for approximately 50 metres.

Jockey Kane Bandy (HIDDEN FACE) reported that his saddle slipped slightly at the 800 metres.

Rounding the home turn KAY TEE (D Oakford) shifted ground outwards and bumped with HIDDEN FACE (K Bandy) before shifting ground inwards and bumping with US INDIAN GIVERS (J Borrett), shortly thereafter US INDIAN GIVERS became tightened for racing room and had to be checked when WOEWODIN (J Nevin) hung out and KAY TEE shifted ground in.

ANGELLI (S Hamer (a)) was held up from entering the home straight until the 200 metres.

Jockey B McCoull (CZAR RULE) reported that he was unable to obtain a clear run in any part of the race.

OPTINORM (B Bamford (a)) hung out severely rounding the 800 metre turn and tailed the field.  Stewards questioned Trainer Catherine Jordan who stated that her instructions were for the horse to be ridden forward or midfield she also advised that she would be submitting a gear change to alter the bit during the week.  Stewards advised Trainer Catherine Jordan that a warning had been placed on this gelding in relation to its hanging and poor performance.  A post race Veterinary examination of OPTINORM revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 6 – RON EVANS MEMORIAL HANDICAP– 1600 METRES

NICANOVA (T Atkin) jumped outwards at the start and contacted MIDNIGHT ESCAPADE (S Maskiell) who as a result was inconvenienced.

STORM YACHT (B McCoull) over raced in the early and middle stages.

STRATHMORE LUCK (K Dodge) was checked at approximately the 1200 metres when TURBULENT FORCE (D Parish) was over racing and threw it’s head in the air, before shifting ground outwards onto STRATHMORE LUCK who in turn received pressure from NICANOVA (T Atkin) which had shifted ground in marginally.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter MIDNIGHT ESCAPADE (Trainer C Goggin).

RACE 7 – E A (TED) COX MEMORIAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP  – 2100 METRES

Pre race blood samples were taken from the following runners:  DEAR FRIEND (Trainer C Goggin), CELTIC COMET (Trainer M Trinder), ANDRE THE GIANT (Trainer H Patterson), STARRED (Trainer J Keys), and BOLD DIP (Trainer L Dixon).

ALL GEARD UP (C Kingston) was fractious in the barriers and was slow into stride.

Stewards questioned Jockey Corey Kingston and Trainer W McShane into the performance and tactics employed with ALL GEARD UP.  Jockey Kingston stated after being slow into stride he elected to sit three wide rather than restrain to the rear of the field.  He further stated it was his objective to improve his position from the 800 metres as the race had been run at a fast pace.  Stewards noted Jockey Kingston’s explanation, but were of the opinion that he may have erred in his judgment on this occasion.

A post race Veterinary examination of ALL GEARD UP (Trainer W McShane) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 8 – O’KEEFES HOTEL CLASS 6 HANDICAP  – 1200 METRES

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when Jockey T Atkin (RACER’S PLUME) wished to view the official film with a view to lodging a protest.  After viewing the film, Jockey Atkin lodged a protest 5th (RACER’S PLUME) against 4th (LITTLE STUART) for alleged interference over the final 200 metres, in that LITTLE STUART (L Goodrick) shifted ground inwards and bumped with RACER’S PLUME on several occasions.  After taking evidence from all parties, Stewards dismissed the protest, as they were of the opinion that the interference suffered was less than the official margin.  It was established that at approximately the 100 metres LITTLE STUART laid in and bumped with RACER’S PLUME.

MATICHELLO (B McCoull) was slow into stride and lost approximately 3 lengths.

STOCKER STREET (S Maskiell) bumped with WALLIS (K Boxall (a)) on several occasions at approximately the 500 metres, when STOCKER STREET attempted to move wider on the track to improve its position.  Rounding the home turn STOKER STREET was momentarily inconvenienced when WALLIS momentarily layed in and ALLMIGHTYPRINCESS (B McCoull) hung out.

Jockey McCoull reported that ALLMIGHTYPRINCESS was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and in the home straight.

 A post race Veterinary examination of STOCKER STREET (Trainer J Blacker) revealed the filly had sustained a small laceration to the heels of the off hind leg.

A swab sample was taken from ISLAND STYLE (Trainer B Ryan).

RACE 3 – SOUTHERN CROSS CARE (TAS) MAIDEN PLATE (DIV 1) – 1200 METRES

XAARLIGHT (B McCoull) proved difficult to load 

ALLION (T Atkin) was unable to muster early speed.

ANGELLI (K Boxall (a)) jumped out at the start bumping with AMETHA (S Maskiell) who in turn bumped with MUI’S PRIDE (R Bradley).

ALLION (T Atkin) and XAARLIGHT (B McCoull) raced greenly, XAARLIGHT shifted ground outwards near the 900 metres.

Near the 900 metres AGNELLI (K Boxall (a)) over raced.

AGNELLI (K Boxall (a)) bumped with MAGIC MAUD (J Kehoe) at approximately the 400 metres when AGNELLI took a tight run to the inside of the tiring MAGIC MAUD.

At approximately the 200 metres MISS WIGGLES (D Parish) was carried wider on the track when WOEWODIN (J Nevin) shifted ground outwards.

Trainer L Wells reported that WOEWODIN lost both front plates in running.

A post race Veterinary examination of XAARLIGHT (Trainer C Goggin) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from ALLION (Trainer K Laurence).

RACE 4 – TYREPOWER MAIDEN PLATE (2)  – 1200 METRES

AMENITY reared and slipped over in the mounting yard as a result dislodging Jockey R Hanby.  A pre race Veterinary examination revealed the filly to be fit to take its place in the field.  Post race it was established that the tree of the saddle had been broken.  A post race Veterinary examination revealed this filly had been galloped on in running and sustained a small laceration to the back of the near hind pastern.

CHANCES MAY (J Cameron) was slow into stride.

ALI QAHIRA (S Hamer (a)) jumped out at the start and bumped with CHANCES MAY (J Cameron) who in turn bumped with MARTINA ANNE (L Goodrick).

Shortly after the start GRASJAR (K Boxall (a)) shifted ground in abruptly and as a result bumped with MARTINA ANNE (L Goodrick).

Near the 600 metres ALI QAHIRA (S Hamer (a)) laid in abruptly and bumped with DUCHESS FONG (S Brazil) who in turn lost its position.  Shortly thereafter JUST IN (J Nevin) became tightened for room when SAGAN (B McCoull) shifted wider on the track to obtain a clear run.

Rounding the home turn ALI QAHIRA (S Hamer (a)) was held up before obtaining a tight run to the inside of GRASJAR (K Boxall (a)).  Steward’s reminded Apprentice Hamer that he must ensure that the run is fully open prior to taking a run and pushing into such a position.

JUST IN (J Nevin) was held up rounding the home turn.

At approximately the 200 metres JUST IN (J Nevin) and AMENITY (R Hanby) bumped.

A swab sample was taken from SAGAN (Trainer B Ryan).

RACE 5 – CENTACARE EMPLOYMENT CLASS 2 HANDICAP  – 1200 METRES

LA VAIN (S Brazil) underwent a pre race Veterinary examination as it appeared to be short in its action in front.  LA VAIN was passed fit to take its place in the field.  LA VAIN also underwent a post race Veterinary examination as it appeared that this mare did not stretch out in racing.  A Veterinary certificate of soundness must be presented prior to this mare’s next official trial or race start.

EL CABAL (L Goodrick) was a late scratching at 3.05pm on Veterinary advice.  All money on EL CABAL to be refunded, all win and place bets to be paid on face value of ticket less 4c in the dollar for the win and 5c in the dollar for the place.  A pre race Veterinary examination of EL CABAL revealed this gelding to be lame in the off fore.  A veterinary certificate of soundness must be presented prior to this gelding’s next official trial or race start.

KRAKOW (K Boxall (a)) was slow into stride.

UNBRIDLED KNIGHT (J Kehoe) threw its head in the air and as a result lost several lengths.

UNBRIDLED KNIGHT (J Kehoe) had to be checked at approximately the 900 metres when racing tight to the inside of LISETTE (G Hodges (a)).  It was established that UNBRIDLED KNIGHT had brushed with LISETTE before shifting in abruptly and contacting the rail.  As a result, Jockey Kehoe became unbalanced and his mount lost ground.  In not taking any further action, Stewards took into account that it was their belief that UNBRIDLED KNIGHT had overreacted to the brush with LISETTE.

BAZZA GOLD (K Dodge) jumped the crossing near the 800 metres and over raced shortly thereafter.

BAZZA GOLD (K Dodge) was inconvenienced rounding the home turn behind the tiring UPPER DECK (B McCoull).

MIDIAN’S CHOICE (S Hamer (a)) was held up rounding the home turn.

RACE 6 – PATRICK HANDICAP– 1600 METRES

Stable Foreman A Parker (MORNINGTON INN) was questioned over the tactics that he was intending to employ today, as the tactics used when the horse last started were contrary to previous runs.  Foreman Parker stated that they would attempt to ride the gelding from midfield in today’s race. 

Jockey B McCoull reported that STORM YACHT over raced in the early stages and laboured over the concluding stages due to the weight the horse was required to carry today.

RACE 7 – LAUNCESTON PARISH CLASS 1 HANDICAP  – 1600 METRES

Pre race blood samples were taken from the following runners NORELLA (Trainer R Goldsmith), LADY OF ROHAN (Trainer J Blacker), CALIOCHA (Trainer L Dixon), SUNJOY (Trainer L Dalco), BLUE CHUM (Trainer T Roles) and MISS QUICKSCORE (Trainer M Young).

BLUE CHUM (C Kingston) was slow into stride, over raced in the early stages and raced greenly throughout.

NORELLA (B McCoull) jumped in at the start and checked SUNJOY (K Boxall (a)) who as a result lost ground.

SUNJOY (K Boxall (a)) began to over race at the 1300 metres and then was awkwardly placed onto the heels of LADY OF ROHAN (D Pires).

AVOIDANCE (J Cameron) tired rounding the home turn.

A swab sample was taken from NORELLA (Trainer R W Goldsmith).

RACE 8 – CATHOLIC DEVELOPMENT FUND CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

ANDRIAS (K Boxall (a)) jumped in at the start and bumped with DRAGON SPIRIT (K Dodge) as a result DRAGON SPIRIT was marginally slow into stride.

ANDRIAS (K Boxall (a)) hung out rounding the home turn and then laid in on several occasions in the home straight and as a result the rider had to stop and straighten.

A swab sample was taken from UMBRIAN STAR (Trainer A Stubbs).
