RIDER CHANGES:
Top Jock to Resolve Barrier Problem
![]() But the biggest hurdle she faces is the outside draw in the capacity field - barrier 17 - which will take all the ability of horse and rider to overcome. Conners, reknown for winning the big juvenile races including four Golden Slippers, remains confident the filly can counter the wide draw and add another two-year-old Classic to the trophy cabinet. "The draw make it pretty hard," Conners said. "But that's why you put jockey's like Damien Oliver on board. She is a horse that gets back and is strong at the finish, so she would have been in the second-half of the field regardless." Part of Conner's philosophy with two-year-olds is to let them learn by experience and race to their peak He has followed the same path with Resolved whose debut - just three starts ago at Rosehill, was anything but spectacular. "She was very green on debut and was never in the hunt, but she has continued to learn from her runs since then," Conners said. "I like to have my juveniles improving at each run - and she's done just that. She won her second start at Moonee Valley and should have won her last start at Flemington as a lead-up to this." The filly missed the start badly, trailling the field for most of the journey before working home to finish runner-up to Frasassas.
Conners is hoping for a hectic pace in Wednesday's race, knowing his filly will be doing her best work at the finish. "Most of the horses have been running over 1000m, so there should be a good pace on," Conners said. "My filly is very strong at the finish and will only get better with time. She's a lovely big filly and, provided she runs well on Wednesday, will return to Melbourne for the Sires' Produce Stakes." Last year's inaugural Magic Millions winner, Milkshake, was trained by Colin Little and ridden by Peter Mertens. This will be Conners' first local Millions runner and will also be Oliver's first ride in the race. Conners is also keen to stay on to secure some more juveniles at the Magic Millions Adelaide Sales, which begin 6pm Wednesday for Session 1, 11am Thursday for Session 2 and 11am Friday for the Summer Session. A total of 522 lots are due to go under the hammer. "I've had a look through the catalogue and it looks a good sale," Conners said. "I'll try to find some yearlings to take home with me." Media Release - Jason Hickson (TRSA) The Dress Code is Perfect at Morphettville
With the in form Noel Callow in the saddle, Dress Code managed to hold out a determined challenge from the fast finishing King's Choir by a mere head. The early leader Fragmentation ($6.50-$4.60 eq fav) boxed on solidly to finish third just a long neck further back. Winning trainer Robbie Laing said the $20,000 Gold Coast purchase was likely to have his next start in the Group One VRC Sires' Produce Stakes at Flemington on March 10. "The Sires' looks a really nice race for him," a jubilant Laing said. "And the distance will suit him, that's for sure." "He tends to just get run off his feet a bit early and when his distances are a little longer he would be able to be at his best," he added. For Noel Callow today's Magic Millions Classic win was the jockey's most significant during a long career in the saddle. "I've won at Group Two level in the past and finished a head second in the Futurity," Callow noted. "But this win today is by far the best I've had." Callow felt that Dress Code would be ideally suited to races like the Sires' Produce in the future. "He is going to make into a very good horse when his distances are stretched out a little," the beaming rider reported. Dress Code's win was a triumph for Jack Woolridge, the man behind Inverness Stud. The son of El Moxie was bred and sold by Inverness at the 2002 Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale. "He probably wasn't the perfect yearling," Laing recalls. "But if you could forgive him for a few faults he actually was a lovely horse." Laing is expected to be one of the many leading Australian trainers who will be among the bidders during tonight's first session of the Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale. Other high profile trainers in town for the race and sales carnival include Lee Freedman, Gai Waterhouse, Graeme Rogerson, Clarry Conners, Tony McEvoy, Tony Vasil, Sheila Laxon, Mathew Ellerton, Bill Mitchell, David Hayes, John Moore, John Symons, Brian Mayfield-Smith, Leon Macdonald, Joe Hall and Rick Hore-Lacy. Our Egyptian Raine Rules in Swettenham
Trained at Ruakaka by Ken Rae, Our Egyptian Raine showed blistering early pace and then kept fighting in the straight to down the fast finishing Brief Embrace by a half head. The four-year-old daughter of Desert Sun, Our Egyptian Raine burst upon the lead in the early stages and from that point was never headed. "It's a huge thrill," winning trainer Ken Rae said. "Second in this race would have been great, but to win it is just fantastic." Our Egyptian Raine must be one of the cheapest Group One winners of all time. She is the result of a purchase made by good mates Mal Barratt and Rae. "We purchased Egyptian Queen in foal to Desert Sun for a very modest amount," Rae recalled. Although reluctant to give the purchase price of his wonderful investment, Rae did confirm it was less than $1000. Rae is now making a name for himself after what he describes as a "very ordinary" riding career. "I rode about 20 odd winners in about ten years," Rae said. "So it's certainly nothing to rave about." Peter Moody was delighted with runner-up performance of the Group One performed filly Brief Embrace. "It was a very good run and it appears she is back to her best," Moody said after the fast finishing second. "We might look at the Newmarket (Handicap) with her now before maybe freshening up and heading back for the Goodwood," Moody added. Paul Gatt reported the quality mare Fair Embrace had travelled well during the race but had nothing to give over the concluding stages. "You can't take anything away from the winner," Gatt said. "She did all the work and kept going." The Group Two Swettenham Stud Stakes has an illustrious group of previous winners including True Spirit, Apple Danish, Dantelah, Umaline, Rain Dance Lady, Tarare, Leica Western and Viminaria. Gai Confident In Flames Will Measure Up
![]() Waterhouse arrived in Adelaide yesterday to oversee the final preparation of the filly as she prepares to run in the state's richest juvenile event. Not surprisingly Waterhouse was busily inspecting dozens of yearlings at the Magic Millions Sales Complex at Morphettville, a location she is hoping will prove lucky tomorrow. In Flames, a daughter of Spectrum burst into Millions calculations when she scored an impressive win on debut at Wyong just over a week ago. Waterhouse reported this afternoon that the filly was in good shape for tomorrow's race. "She has settled in well and I'm hopeful she will run well," Waterhouse told Cyberhorse today. "Obviously it is a signifcant rise in class, but some horses are capable of taking the step," she added. In Flames, who was a $35,000 purchase for Denise Martin's Star Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast last year, will be Waterhouse's first Millions runner in Adelaide. Success in races restricted to Magic Millions runners is certainly not a foreign thing for the top trainer. She has won two 2YO Classics and two 3YO Trophies on the Gold Coast with Assertive Lad, Excellerator, Biaggio and Ha Ha respectively. Ceduna (SA)

J. Holder, the rider of TERMINUS
PRINCE, explained that he had been instructed to, and had intended to, ride the gelding
just off the pace as was its normal racing pattern. He
stated that in the early stages there was more pace than he had expected and would have
had to pressure his mount to race further forward. Rather
than pressure TERMINUS PRINCE, he had elected to settle where it felt comfortable. J. Holder added he had been content to follow DEVIL
IN DISGUISE (T. Creek) in running, however, he considered this had worked against his
chances inside the 600 metres when that runner had not improved into the race as he had
expected. After entering the straight he
confirmed that he had not obtained clear running as a result of being obliged to ease off
heels on two occasions. TERMINUS PRINCE was
examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had a lower than
expected heart rate.
