{SCPinterestShare href=https://form.virtualformguide.com/racing-news/south-australia/43860-balaklava-race-reduced-in-distance.html layout=standard image=https://form.virtualformguide.com/images/stories/south_australia.gif desc=TRSA Limited advise that the distance of Race 6 – Hyland Race Colours / SABOIS+ Rating 0-62 Handicap at Balaklava... size=small}

TRSA Limited advise that the distance of Race 6 – Hyland Race Colours / SABOIS+ Rating 0-62 Handicap at Balaklava tomorrow has been reduced from 2215 metres to 1610 metres.

The Stewards conducted an inspection of the Balaklava track this morning and determined that a section of the course proper in the vicinity of the 1800 metres was unsuitable to race over.

Although the Club had identified and repaired a fault which rendered the section of the track unsuitable at its previous meeting on Wednesday, 19 May 2010, subsequent rain (about 60ml) had prevented this area from recovering.

Having regard to the proximity of the next Balaklava race meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 23 June 2010, TRSA Limited announce the Rating 0-68 Handicap programmed for that race meeting has been reduced in distance to 1600 metres.

Consequently TRSA Limited announce that the Rating 0-71 Handicap over 1600 metres programmed for the Murray Bridge race meeting on Wednesday, 30 June 2010 has been amended to a Rating 0-68 Handicap over 2200 metres.

This race remains for apprentice riders only and the field is limited to twelve runners.

Any enquiries regarding programming matters may be directed to TRSA Limited’s Mr. A. Macdonald on 08 8179 9814.

Any other enquiries may be directed to the Chairman of Stewards.

Very EdgyPromising South Australian three-year-old filly Very Edgy has run her last race in Australia after suffering her second bleeding attack at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

Resuming from a 25 week layoff in the $32,000 Best Bets Handicap (1000m), Very Edgy boxed on bravely to finish third behind Streetcar Magic and Deneb.

However upon returning to scale it was apparent Very Edgy suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the race.

Trainer Ken Sweeney was notified shortly after that as this was the second time she had suffered a bleeding attack, she was now banned from racing in Australia.

Finishing in the placings from all her six starts, Very Edgy is a dual winner that is a multiple placegetter at Morphettville.

Two starts back Very Edgy finished second behind the Stephen Brown-trained Canali who subsequently won again in Adelaide and then finished on the heels of Our Baby Bonus at Moonee Valley in January.

It’s unknown at this stage whether Very Edgy will continue her career in a region such as the United States, which allows horses to race with the drug lasix in their system.

Meanwhile, the Mark Minervini-trained Hallacious is set wear a tongue tie at his next start following his poor performance at Morphettville Parks last Wednesday.

Minervini told stewards that the filly had undergone a veterinary examination and an endoscopic examination identified Hallacious had displaced its tongue.

Jockey Dom Tourneur has been suspended for excessive whip use after Saturday’s meeting at Morphettville Parks.

Tourneur was reprimanded after pleading gulity for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100 metre mark aboard Any Plum in the sixth event, FMG Engineering Handicap (1550m).

Tourneur transgressed for the second time in the final race aboard winner Golden Snip. He once again pleaded guilty but TRSA stewards weren’t as lenient on this occasion, suspending Tourneur for two meetings.

Tourneur was also suspended for three meetings from the same race for using his whip in a forehand manner in consecutive strides.

That penalty will be served concurrently with the first offence which means Tourneur will be sidelined after June 14 till June 20.

Meanwhile, the stewards at Morphettville Parks conducted a random search of both male and female jockey rooms on Saturday finding that all whips, helmets and safety vests were in accordance with the rules.

The only exceptions were the safety vests belonging to Matthew Neilson and Adrian Patterson which stewards confiscated citing that the equipment required repair.
