r5tonymcevoy.jpg (7571 bytes)Lindsay Park trainer Tony McEvoy today racked up another five winners, this time at the South Australian provincial meeting at Murray Bridge. In doing so, McEvoy matched or bettered Lindsay Park's best performances and cemented his position at the head of the national trainers table.

On Saturday the current boss of Lindsay Park broke the all time stable record for the number of winners in December, passing the previous best of 35 set by current Hong Kong based Lindsay Park director David Hayes.

Thanks to this afternoon's haul McEvoy has now trained 42 winners for the month of December and equalled David Hayes Lindsay Park record for the most winners in a month set in November 1991. McEvoy has also given the famous training establishment its best ever start to the season with 138 winners to the end of December compared with 131 in the previous best season in 1993/94.

Ex-Hong Kong galloper Wide Angle kicked away the day in style at the Bridge when the five-year-old son of Euclase started a short priced favourite and scrambled home to win the Atkins Photography Maiden Plate (1000m).

With Simon Price in the saddle Wide Angle, who jumped at the prohibitive odds of 1/3, downed his rivals by a neck.

In the following race the Collingrove and Swettenham Stud bred and owned filly Rainbow Echo made an auspicious start to her career when she scored a soft two and three quarter length win in the Murray Bridge Electrial Maiden Plate (900m).

Showing natural speed the daughter of Spectrum toyed with her rivals to win in impressive style. Simon Price was aboard to make it a race to race double.

About an hour later Phantasmic, with leading Adelaide rider Jason Holder in the saddle, proved much too strong for her rivals in the Clem Graetz Memorial F&M C1 Handicap (1400m).

By the resident Lindsay Park sire Jeune, Phantasmic downed her stablemate and fellow Jeune mare Jeune Amour by a length and a quarter in an all McEvoy finish.

Winner number four came in the very next race when the 16/1 pop Jaes Jeune downed her rivals by a neck to win the Murraylands Security Maiden Plate (1200m).

Ridden by Adelaide based senior Ben Claridge, Jaes Jeune is a three-year-old daughter of Jeune and is from the well bred mare La Grange.

The magical day was completed when Treeline, a 45/10 chance, beat a handy field in the Murray Bridge Motor Inn C1 Handicap (1200m).

With Simon Price once again in the saddle, the daughter of Timber Country proved a length and a quarter too good for her rivals.

The winners stablemate Act of Parliament was a nose behind the runner-up in third place.

McEvoy is hoping his sensational form from December carries through over the New Year celebrations this week.

He will be represented with five runners at Morphettville and four runners at Flemington on Wednesday, the first day of 2003.

Connections of the exciting Darryl Dodson trained galloper Get Up were rewarded when that galloper scored a dashing win in the $60,200 PD Excavations Christmas Handicap (1456m) at Cheltenham in Adelaide.

Two starts back Get Up was first past the post at the same track but lost the race after a protest by the third placegetter was upheld by stewards.

Today however, the South Australian bred gelding by Youthful Legs proved that was only a small obstacle to his preparation when he scored a soft win.

The success gave Caulfield based apprentice rider Linda Meech her third winner for the day, and a welcomed Group Three triumph.

Earlier she scored wins courtesy of the Tony McEvoy trained Saturday Fever and the David Jolly prepared Rally.

On the line Get Up had enough in hand to down the early leader Georgie Boy, a former Sydney based Group One winner, and the grey mare Devil in Disguise.

Last year's winner of the time honoured Group event Ken Cheval got well back after jumping from a wide gate and was never ever a winning chance.

David Balfour's good record with graduates from the Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale continued at Cheltenham today when Cashkalani scored an impressive runaway win.

Cashkalani, who as his name suggests is by the former shuttle sire Ashkalani, beat two other rivals in today's Double Vice Plate (1000m) at Cheltenham.

Leading lady rider Clare Lindop had the $17,000 yearling purchase in the lead throughout after jumping from the inside barrier and when she quickened into the straight her mount strode away from his rivals to win easily.

Cashkalani was sold at the 2002 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale when offered by Fulmen Park, who were acting as agents.

Balfour has purchased a number of top class horses at the Morphettville sales including the brilliant Group winning sprinter Mint of Gold.

He is bound to be one of the more prominent buyers at next year's sales in February.

Talented Adelaide galloper Ken Cheval has been banned for life after suffering his second bleeding attack in his quest for back to back Christmas Handicaps at Cheltenham today.

Trained by Mark Lewis, Ken Cheval was having just his 33rd start today in the 1456 metre event which would turn out to be his last.

On first glance the son of Kenvain's effort in today's Group Three event appeared below par, and news of his attack certainly put his run into context.

A winner three runs back at Morphettville, Ken Cheval leaves the track with the record of 33 starts for 7 wins, 4 seconds and 4 third with stakes earnings of $162,975. He was a winner from 1000 metres to 1450 metres.

The six-year-old gelding, who is by the former track record breaking sprinter Kenvain and out of Perfect Idea, always enjoyed racing at Cheltenham. From 13 starts at the track he registered four wins and four minor placings including his best win in last season's Christmas Handicap.

He boasted an imposing first up record of six starts for three wins, one second and two thirds.
